    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives Před měsícem

      I have two answers for you: 1) If you really insist on using your old Minolta lenses, then yes, the A99 or A99 II will work for video. But there are drawbacks. The A mount was never intended to be used for video: the motor in the camera body (for lenses without AF motors inside) get picked up by the microphones. To get autofocus during video the camera insists on shooting as close to f/3.5 as it can get, so there's no real control over depth-of-field. Using an adapter for your A-mount lenses onto an E-mount body is worse, as AF is disabled completely on the newer bodies. For video, any mirrorless body with a native lens will likely work better, be it from Panasonic, Sony, OM Digital or Fujifilm. (Nikon and Canon also.)

      I also started doing it the other way around and actually the XD series f.ex. is designed to go the way you did in the video. But those later cameras has small notches that is supposed to grab the film. It could be something to do with the later models being created for motor drives.

    Will an 'A' mount lens with an internal motor work on the EA5 adapter?

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, there's a screwdriver motor in that adapter. Know that the adapter only works on Sony bodies made within the last 2 years (except the A7C and A7S III).

      @@FriedmanArchives Yes, I realize that but perhaps I did not ask the question correctly. The question is will a lens with an internal motor still focus on the EA4/EA5.

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      @@superbmediacontentcreatorThe answer is 'yes' - all A-mount lenses can be focused using either the LA-EA4 or LA-EA5 adapter.

      @@FriedmanArchives Cool, so the only difference is that the LA4 will focus in Movie mode. You do not say if the Monster adapter continues this function.

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      @@superbmediacontentcreator It depends on the camera body. Some allow it; some don't. I don't recommend using the LAEA5 for focusing during video mode anyway (regardless if the body allows it or not) because the focusing will be kind of jerky and it will call attention to itself in video.

    @EagerSnake Před 3 měsíci

    Great video, as ALWAYS, but, I have a question Gary: what do you mean the LAEA5 is only compatible with 3 bodies? I was reading Sony's website, and it says it's compatible with all the bodies they have, but with limitations. I'm looking to buy it for an old Minolta AF 70-300, and now I have my doubts hahaha.

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      Regretfully, Sony's website (specifically support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/accessories/compatibility.php?area=eu&lang=en&mdl=LA-EA5&cat=3&loc=en_GB ) is horribly misleading. They even list their oldest E-mount cameras like the NEX-3 as being "compatible", even though technically there's no phase detect AF in the sensor that would allow autofocus to work. The only camera bodies that will work properly are the A6600, A7R IV, and every camera body made after that except the A7C and A7S III. And keep in mind that the LA-EA5 doesn't support autofocusing with video, no matter what the camera body it's attached to.

      @@FriedmanArchives oh, I see. Thank you for the clarification. I only need the adapter for photos on my A7III. So, maybe it's OK... Ish?

      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      @@EagerSnake I would say no, it's not OK. For the A7 III your best bet is the older LA-EA4 adapter.

    wow. Your master class has been absolutely impresive. I'm on a hard looking for a "new-old" camera because my old sony a330 can't afford (or maybe it's me) the photography I want to do. I need to photograph to my daughters on indoor rolling skate and the light is too poor in that kind of sports center. I own a fantastic minolta 80-200 2.8 high speed but if I configure the camera at more than 500 of speed (really I wanted to use it at 1000) I can't take brightness photos because the max iso is 3200 (and I think that more than 800 is not a good idea). so... minolta has screwdriver --> I need LA-EA2 or 4. But if I buy a sony a7 (only a7, with no R, no II, no III....) it's the same? or as it's a full fame I can only buy a LA-EA4 ? Is it usable or I will waste the good as the minolta is? Remember that it's so quick. I don't know what to do because I want to retain my fantastic lens. Or should I buy another camera with high iso? I also looked for alpha 65 or alpha 77 but somebody told me that the translucend mirror remove some light. sorry for a lot of questions.

      @FriedmanArchives Před 3 měsíci

      Glad you liked it. The LA-EA4 has the semi-transparent mirror too, but you won't notice any ill effects. The LA-EA4 is the one I recommend for you.
