I'm Aaron!
I spent 6 years learning Spanish in school, and graduated barely able to speak at all. That was before I learned HOW to learn languages. Now I speak English, Spanish, French, Esperanto, some Thai, and I'm actively learning Greek.
Stick around and we'll discuss what you should be doing to finally learn that language that's been on your mind.
A new language will enhance your life!
I also have my own Esperanto only channel which you can see here: czcams.com/channels/21NBss-ioqoDpvZsKl5niw.html
If you would like to take private language lessons from me, you can find more information here: sites.google.com/view/fingtamlessons/home

Pimsleur is really good. I've watched this video 10 months ago. Then I bought the subscription and started following lessons to learn Spanish. Yesterday, I completed level 5, lesson 30. Which means 150 lessons (±75 hours). I can now speak in Spanish with my employees. I clearly understand what they say. With some effort, I can tell most of what I want to say. And to read it is a breeze. And I did it all while driving. Hard to say why, but I feel it was easier while driving that being 100% focused on the lessons. Maybe because my brain did no have time to matter about how well I performed, so no learning inhibition or the like.
Can you recommend some good books for English learners?
I have Oxford dictionary with such transcriptions for fifty years.
2:07 It's Saraiki BRO!
Why didn't I see this video sooner?
The problem is I can't understand lyrics in English or Spanish in a song, that's why lyric videos are so popular. I been singing the wrong lyrics for years!
Tennys, not gym shoes
I say coupon like you, however, if you listen to yourself, you are saying quepon.
Total bullshit on "children's books contain easy language". Magic wands, animal species you'll never come across again, and other vocabulary that will add to the frustration. Try teenager novels instead.
The best app? 🤣🤣🤣 It's the worst app ever
Isnt it ironic that i got a Duolingo ad while entering this video 💀
Def not I tried intermediate English and I already got to personalized practice with the shortcut You just learn 2 or 3 words and you learn how to communicate a little
I am a polyglot speaking 7 languages including Esperanto. I have learned it only because I believe no natural language should be chosen as a common global language . Every natural language has native speakers and this would give them an upper hand over the others who learn the language as a secondary language. There are some criticisms about Esperanto. Most of them are unfair but one of them is very reasonable and that is that Esperanto is a Eurocentric language and I must say this is a true drawback of Esperanto. I think the community of Esperanto must give an essential reform to the language and change some words with the words from other official languages of the world. At the moment there are 120 official languages across the world and Esperanto must have some words derived from all of them . Then we would be able to claim that Esperanto is a neutral language designed for all people of the world.
Thanks for the honesty
I definitely don't say U Betcha like everyone thinks Wisconsinites do. I'm from the very southern borderline of WI/IL and i feel like we're fairly plain sounding. I say soda and pop also don't say bubbler. We sound like most newscasters on TV.
😅
What is a complimentary phrase? How is the word "that" is a complimentary? What are the other examples of that?
Duolingo is grossly ineffective as a language tool and as an ad platform. It's just junk.
Nothing original here!!! This guy is just preaching the same old tune thats been around for decades. Complete waste of time comng to this site!!!
Unfortunately some of us have to learn just to prove we have a proficient level in a language to companies in order to get hired.
Did apps n vids for a month, then immersed in country for a month; still don’t know a single phrase. Languages don’t make sense to me.
At 3: 49 he said if you watch the video 5 years from now go ahead and do it .. Just the I realised it's really 5 years 😂he's talking to me
Enjoyed your video. Did I hear you pronounce "especially" with a 'k' sound?
66 years old and I want to learn
You should look up the word Fingtam in Duolingo in the hungarian section.
In an alternate timeline, you’re Thomas DeLauer
For learning Portuguese you can try the book "Learn Portuguese with Immersive Short Stories: Sombras do Passado"
does anybody have a solution for when they tell you that you can only make 20 LingQs ?
You're a great teacher you should be a professor
I wanted to listen to your accent because back in 2009, I tried out for a play where a character was a tough fisherwoman with a Wisconsin accent -- and the stupid boy who directed looked at me as though I had 2 heads every time I spoke -- and he chose a woman who used a sweet Norwegian Lady accent like the sweet ladies from "I Remember Mama" whicxh was all wrong for that character. Mine was accurate. I had done an impression of Susan Hawk from Survivor 1 (2000, the first one). He was a fool! I was right and he was wrong! Sue Hawk was a tough hunter-type truck and a driver, and sounded something like what you demonstrated. EX: where you lengthen the "o" Sue used to do that when she said the word "tapioca."
Yeah, he is right anyway. In my case, when I was in junior high school, I played a lot of online games, particularly those involving chats. I didn't know it was helping me a lot. I didn't even try to look in a grammar book to write some chats while playing. It's so difficult to play and look up words in the dictionary, isn't it? Then, at the beginning of university, I used to watch English CZcams videos (and still do). I knew exactly what the CZcamsrs were saying. However, with that good basic English, I aim to reach a C2 level, and right now, I am working on it. With my previous passive English, I am learning English grammar only in the English language. I won't touch an English learning book in my native language.
Duolingo kinda states that their course will only take you to a B2 language proficiency level. After that you'll have to hone your skills on your own.
As a total beginner, the drills are really useful to bring the theory to life.
I studied thai for 2 years several years ago, and I focused on learning vocabulary and writing but not speech. Once I moved to live in a village and no one spoke english beside the teacher at the school I taught. I improved my thai drammatically both in speaking and listening in those 5 months.
The best feature that Duolingo had, was the feature where it would listen to you saying words in your target language. It would then asses how well you said it. This was a great loss as that would add much more usefulness for talking practice.
Good video. I use both. Here is some of my perspectives on Duolingo. Duolingo isn't just about learning to translate phrases. Common words become more familiar and become part of your vocabluary. Lingq is better, but Duolingo can be useful to get some basic vocab and an introduction to the language. I like the listening exercises, as if using it on slow playback you can practice speaking words after they say the word. I think im in the transition from duolingo to lingq. Duolingo is best when you ignore XP side of things, slow down a little and push through the lessons. Words become known, and it gets easier. I subscribed.
Let people learn what they want to learn, it's not your business.
Thank you so much, Sir.
I'm so happy to find your channel 👌🏻 j'ai immigré au Canada/ Quebec et vraiment besoin d'améliorer mon niveau de français québécoise. Merci😊
I really like duolingo for learning different writings like arabic or hiragana
Duolingo is a great tool for beginners... The further along you get, the bigger the waste of time it is. One of the main exercises where you form pre-made sentences is a timesink...

I speak Scots to my scots patients. If they get annoyed at me i say ' im in Scotland - where else can i speak it?'. Andy McDonald Scotland
You surrender to the Steak of your own free will because you know that building habits is the best way to self-development. Even if Duolingo is not 100% effective, at least you have added something productive to your routine.
Esperanto is currently encouraged by some communist countries, but the moment any nation takes a prominent place as a world leader the support shifts because all nations want self-promotion and deprecation of the rest in every aspect including language. Esperanto cannot win with the "help" of governments especially international government organizations. Remember Stalin liked Esperanto until he was securely in power then he had Esperantists killed.
Duolingo is just a game, nothing to do with language teaching.
What is the best Python library to create trees using specifically the rules of Generative Grammar?"
personally i find it very useful
I am from the west of Scotland, we say "ant". "Awwnt" sounds English or snobby. I noticed that many American youtubers say buh-in for button, it sounds so funny.
