It seems we are going through the same thing. I went insane with kanji for years after I had been fluent in Japanese for a few years. That was when studying became part of my life. After trying to start other languages I found that studying was not working and memorization was failing me. Now I'm just doing comprehensible input and it's really made my life easier while also giving my language learning a boost.
1:30 I think either you have a intermediate plateau or an intermediate breakthrough depends on the proximity of your target language. Learning the basics of Spanish or French is not so difficult for English speakers but a lot of learners struggle getting to an advanced level. In my opinion exactly because they don't read and speak enough. If you have quick success with your language learning you tend to become overly comfortable with your learning routine.
For languages extremely distant to our native language it's completely different. Overcoming the beginner level is a real struggle, especially with a different script. It may sound contra intuitive but I think that comprehensible input approaches slow down your progress with distant languages at the beginning BUT have a great impact once you get to the intermediate level. Vocabulary acquisition through comprehensible input is hard when nearly all the words are different and you haven't developed yet a phonetic memory. But the struggle pays off because all the word you acquired through CI will be rooted way more in your mind than words you swallowed in Anki.

Also, I just finished my first chapter book in Swedish, the first Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan (Född Till Hjälte). Next will be Falukorv Och Andra Fasor (Fear And Falukorv) by Thomas Spragg Nilsson. I was able to get it in both the Swedish and English copies.
I'm a simple man: I hear about Matt, I give a like :P
Btw, the experience of the inverted intermediate plateau is what I lived too, with Chinese. But only since I started using more or less Matt's approach, that is since September. It is epic.

I also came to the same conclusion abt domains/areas of study. Makes sense to learn a closed group of words that have to do with one subject before moving on to another group of words. I've been inadvertently doing this just by watching Italian learning videos & reading the comments below. I'm learning common everyday words (tutti, bene, stesso, anche, quindi, po, sempere, etc) & also specific words associated with learning Italian.
I'm gonna read some thriller/crime books (my fave genre) next in order to expand my vocabulary.
The idea of watching every second episode in English is interesting too!
Excellent. Great approach, even more so for non romance languages (english speaker here). Variety and intensity need to be part of the approach as well.
I am doing something similar with Spanish. Once you hit about B1 reading native content becomes very attractive. I probably had B1 speaking, listening in Thai but then didn't continue.

Out of curiosity, what app were you using to read "mahn-gahs"? Or is there one you'd recommend instead these days?
Yeah, just how do I get those books if I am not in said country that speaks the language? Also, I really doubt that my target language (modern Greek) has graphic novels (I really wish it had), unless someone here can give me a spark of hope for finding a source for intermediate Greek comprehensible input

I've bought two books in english for natives but i cannot understand most of them. I mean I still understand the main gist of the story by guessing but there are so many words that i dont know or havent seen before. What should I do? Should I skip these books because they are not suitable for me or should I keep reading and look up every single word ? ( Its frustrating sometimes because there are usually more than 10 words in a page that i dont know)
Definitely don’t bother looking up every word. If there are only 10 words per page that you don’t know, you can usually just skip them and still understand everything.

I read a lot of excellent advice in this video, and I say "read" because after about half a minute of having that annoying elevator music crammed down my ear canals I muted it and turned on the captions.
Please, bonvolu, prego, por favor, lose the furshlugginer nuisance background music, or at least reduce it to a substantially lower level than the narration (about 150 dB ought to do it). and command of English. A growing number of CZcamsrs seems infected with whatever disease causes this fad, and the only good thing about it is the I've saved a lot of time by unsubscribing to their channels. Rant, rave, rant, rave. Grrrrrr. Wow do I hate elevator music...
Of course, this is just my opinion. You might try going all-in on this approach and start recording your videos in a karaoke bar.
