RHDR Autumn Gala 2023
A weekend at the @RomneyHytheDymchurchRailway - the two days couldn't have been any more different... drenched to the bone on Saturday and sunburnt on Sunday! Excellent organisation by the RHDR and pretty much everything ran to time and despite the huge crowds they made sure everyone got a seat, adding extra carriages on the Sunday where needed. Enjoyed it all immensely and tried to get some video... the 8 loco multi-header at the end was in near darkness but other than that it was good conditions for video!

Exactly ten years to the day since the opening event at this railway an anniversary get-together was held. Lots of live steam locos running from a variety of eras. A number of the same folk from 10 years ago attended and an enjoyable day had by all.
Soggy Garden of England Steam Railtour with Britannia 70000

Steam loco Britannia hauled the 'Garden of England Railtour' again this week around Kent and got caught in a number of rainshowers along the way. We saw it at Selling, Bekesbourne and Westenhangar.

Sunny day in Southern England with visitors running a mix of model live steam and electric locos on Adam's superb track and also the portable Dobson Bridge track which had been expertly erected on Adam's lawn. Nice day out - many thanks Adam!

Track test - 3D printed SE&CR 6-wheel double horsebox

Testing a 3D printed 6-wheeler with one fixed axle, a floating centre axle and rocking end axle. Never tried this arrangement before but the train completed a 30 min run with no derailments. (Sorry about the howl on the loco burner, it's my 'to-do' list to get sorted!)

Gauge 1 Atlantic steamed in the garden to test a modification to the ashpan and a different source of fuel. A bit too wet to get the rolling stock out!

Gauge One locos running on a sunny summer day in East Kent. Sincere thanks to everyone for bringing a wide variety of interesting locos including an R1 (apt since it was less than a mile from where the prototype would have originally ran!), an Alf Conrad SECR 'Asia' (one of the first Gauge 1 gas fired locos from the early 1970s) an Aster German loco with mesmerising valve gear and a Tom Barrett...

Southern summer gauge one steam-up held over two days with trade stands, fantastic weather and possibly one of the largest orders of fish and chips ever made by man. Big thanks to Adam, Stuart and everyone else that made it happen!

Parts of it certainly are! Touch the boiler and it will burn your hand, the gas tank gets quite cold in use and thankfully the 3D printed wagon is far enough from the heat to not get damaged/warped by it. I would still be wary about leaving a 3D printed wagon in car boot or windowsill etc on a sunny day

Indeed stunning!!! Where is this railway? Or maybe, what is it’s name? I would love to see some detail on the semaphores and their construction. The metal arch construction is a beauty as well!
I think the signals were written up in the Gauge 1 Model Railway Association Journal... would encourage anyone reading this to become a member as the journal is a really valuable resource, not to mention the social benefits of membership. Railway is in south-east England.

You were very lucky with that last short at Westenhanger, just a few seconds later and the Dover service train would have spoil it!

The Brits always sounded like clockwork to me. A sort of ' I mean business' kind of noise. I do hope they get it back soon.
Yes it’s a really sharp exhaust sound… sounds totally different to the Bulleid Pacifics which is very soft in comparison. Shame that it failed but also look forward to seeing it on the main line again soon.

They were made by a firm in the U.K. called the Gauge 1 Model Railway Company. This was subsequently acquired by Accucraft who have since done a few more production runs of these BR Mk1 coaches including a Buffet coach.

It’s an amazing set up, train detectors built into the track (lasers and light sensors) with the signals controlled by an Arduino board

I presume this is a Barrett Engineering model, modified by you? Apologies if a wrong assumption. I have a similar Atlantic but with cut down SR cab and in black BR livery
It is a Barrett loco, modified by the previous owner to run on a different fuel, I was struggling to steam it and after consulting several local coal enthusiasts decided to modify the ashpan/grate which has worked well with the anthracite grains available locally.
