If you want a real challenge, try to track down & interview 'timecop', the father of the naze32 & baseflight, from where all modern flight controllers came from. FPV wouldn't be where it is today without him, yet he basically disappeared and gets zero credit & hardly any mention at all. He was a very controversial dude.

Chad is the reason I stopped following rotor riot back in the day becausehe became horribly rude. Soon after that I grew bored with fpv. I'm just not getting back into it because of dji. I sure hope he sorts out his issues.

Warthox was a god back then. No one really ever came close to matching his LOS skills, and then everyone just kinda moved onto FPV, but his aggressive balls-out style of flying definitely had a major influence on how acro/freestyle FPV flying developed.

Don't worry, Bob. Even in 2024 there are still newbs getting into FPV who want to learn the history, the "why" of electronics choices and are excited about building their own quad. I'm currently practicing soldering and researching components for my first build. Probably going to order a set of imperials!

More - the answer to the title's question is: MORE!!! What I am trying to do is have 2 Kiss and 2 Betaflight. All 6" althought ai often fly with 5" proops and a 7" long range build which will be BF but I'm looking at iNav too for that one. I currentlky have 2 Full Kiss, 1 Kiss FC with BLHeli32 and maybe 6 BF quads. I don't think the Hypetrains have a *reliability* problem, they have a *DURABILITY* issue.

I do not have an FPV drone nor have I ever flown one but I stumbled across BotGrinders videos and I love watching the shit. I do have a Phantom 3 Standard though and I fly that still, and I put a super long range kit on the drone and the controller with Amps and everything. I wonder if you could make money with a P3S still or is it totally outdated ?

Just found this interview. Thanks it still stands up today. Just watched Flowstate and had the obvious question. Like or dislike Chad he moved the needled and brought FPV to the forefront of interest. He established the hobby and I am truly Gratful. My first build was a Mr Steele build with Nowak and Kapper. To this day still one of my favorite videos to watch. So watching Flow state with Chad mia from the industry and Chad not recognized for his work leaves me a bit empty after watching it. Don't get me wrong I can watch Flow state and appreciate it and love it but when I reflect on it I get empty feeling from it. I can not comment on the feelings and thoughts of others but Kapper gave me nothing but good things. I can say this about bussiness I worked for a major company, it was number 3 or 4 in the industry and one day the cash in the bank dipped below a certain level and the next day the company was gone. So does dollars measure anything, you bet but people forget what goes into that dollar is what makes it. As my mom says those cookies are made with love. Take it or leave it!

Quadcopters have been around since the 1990's, but FPV quads didn't become popular until I modded a futuristic FPS VTOL gunship in Battlefield 2142 as a passion project from 2008-2013 that created 100,000 pilots. That's why it's called FPV, not RC. "Modern FPV" started in a sim, not in RC. When Gamespy shut down, we still wanted to fly.. I fled to ultralights to jump hedgeros flying low and slow, and they fled into RC multirotors. Periscopes have been around since 1450 (Johannes Gutenberg).. the OG of FPV. A device mounted on a vehicle to steer and drive it from a remote location from the view. Your rear view mirror on every car is probably the widest FPV device worldwide, originally added to a car to help a woman back up... None of narratives fit the Silicon Garage (HP/Apple) propaganda narrative these RC bro culture bros want to promote which is why you aren't going to hear from it from anyone but me. The sim is not some anticillary tool to help you to learn to fly the toy better. A futuristic sim is actually the hot bed where it all started, and the RC toy carbon based quads are it's poor cousin. That again doesn't "fit the narrative they want to advance", so you hear nothing but the reverse from them that derisively discounts the sim as just a way to learn to fly. No, the sim was the hotness. Not the other way around. I know, I was there, nobody gave 2sh1ts about weird fpv vtol craft (except minority military helicopter and Osprey pilots) until I walked into a Best Buy and saw a Talon gunship in a bleak frosty post apocalyptic world on the box art of 2142 and was like... well hello you, you s3xyB3ast, you're coming home with me. I never bought any video games, ever. But here was a war horse from the future that could fly, and I was going to trick it out into the most difficult and devastating weapon in a gunship and air transport dogfighting thunderdome arena. Again, it don't fit their bros HP/Apple it all started in a garage Chad Kaper like narrative. it wasn't a garage, it was a kitchen working all night long in the dark for years on a labor of love. Microwave on the right, refrigerator behind me, thousands of of 2 liters of Dr Pepper consumed. I'm still in that kitchen today creating. When Gamespy bit the dust and pulled the plug and killed my baby, I was devastated. But somehow this deflicted second child of RC "FPV" spawned and spun off from it... I had nothing to do with that beyond planting the seed and building a Tina Turner dogfighting arena for 100,000 boys to get their first taste of "flying" a Horizon mode quad vehicle. It was the free to play and free to download stock demo client version I focused on. All my mods were server side only and rolled out immediately. It cost nothing to play on my server. Nothing but electricity and an itnernet connection and your gaming PC. If you already owned a gaming PC with GPU, you didn't have to buy a single thing more. No goggles, no RC controllers, no quads, not cameras, nothing. It was truly democratic. It was the FPV c0nm3n that came along that sold you a bill of goods to get views and shill products via affiilate links.

FPV is just plan hard and I don't imagine most women and even men have the necessary exposure to learn plus its expensive. Additionally I would bet most drone pilots couldn't tell you what class air space you're supposed to fly in without authorization from the FAA or Air Traffic control.

"We can put our minds on a robot, and go somewhere" is probably the best and most accurate description of why FPV is so great, that I've ever heard.
