The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), in collaboration with longtime conservation partner the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), remove one of the final remaining fish passage barriers in the Maine woods. Restoring stream connectivity allows the federally endangered Atlantic salmon and brook trout to swim freely upstream to spawn. It also benefits all who live, work, and play in the A.T. lands...

Saving the Southern Appalachian Red Spruce Forest
zhlédnutí 1,7KPřed rokem
A relic of the last Ice Age that thrives in colder temperatures, the red spruce was once a mainstay of the eastern North American forest from the southern Appalachians to coastal Canada. Widespread logging in the 19th and early 20th centuries cut its historic range in half. This made the remaining forests vulnerable to wildfires. Today, red spruce in the southern Appalachians exist mostly on th...

Ed-Venture: On the Trail with Black Bears
Ticks can't bite through cloth or nylons. There are track pants made of light material suitable for summer wear. You have to weigh the risk of contracting a life-altering, life-threatening disease against being fully protected by dressing properly.
That guy has 0 rizz
Hey I know this guy! Hi Nick, I’m the one who pestered you about mushrooms the other day in SD. I thought your voice sounded familiar. I’m gonna try and go save my food now!
I would question wearing shorts and short sleeves in tick country. Long pants should be tucked into socks etc. Use permethrin treated socks and footwear. No repellent works well against ticks.
How do you hike in july wearing pants tucked in to socks?
Thanks! Very important to be aware of the risk that you face outdoors, from the hiking trail to your own home garden and yard! And how to protect yourself!
Nice to see one of my forestry professors from UMaine - he’s a very good man
Great video.
I remember doing this in 1994. It was one hell of an experience that really created the stage for success in school and in life. Now...today 2024, me and a few of my fellow alumni are planning on heading back out there to do some or all of it. Class of 1998!
it's suggested to use a locking carabiner to prevent a rare a problem to occur about some line securing thing
this has to be some of the dumbest shit ive ever listened too!
Thank you so much!
5 years later, the pipeline is still not completed, and all of the landowners in this video have been forced to leave their land. Pipeline workers have been very mean-spirited, mocking the landowners, changing the locks on their property so they can't access it. Very sad.
Master Splinter!

Is the conservancy open on Saturday and Sunday to register for the AT ?
One thing would help bears used to be afraid of humans because we hunted them now most people of stopped. There’s more bears in there used to be and less land for them to live, but still hang your food up in a tree is a good idea.
That was a awesome class. Thank you. Great job!
We've had piplines across Pennsylvania all my life and we hunt there, hike there, fish there. Never been a problem, provides jobs. Glad we have the energy it provides. Overall really glad we have them.
Many things wrong with this video. Here are two: 1. Bear hangs don't work. a. Bears are extremely athletic and smart. If she wants your food, she is going to get it unless it is on a cable, pole or box. b. The perfect branch for a hang is the unicorn of hiking. The branch must be perfect to work (see 1a.). 2. Putting everything that smells in your bag is pointless (unless you hang your tent and sleep gear in the bag too). EVERYTHING in your pack smells like food. Tent, sleeping bag, the pack itself, has been ruminating with your food all day long, plus all the crumbs and spills that inevitably get all over everything as you hike. You can't avoid it. I met at least 10 hikers who had their food stolen from a bear hang, but NONE who had it stolen from their tent while sleeping with. I'm a rule follower, so I used an Ursack tied to a tree on the few occasions there were no cables, poles or boxes near camp. Frankly, the main reason no bears tore open my Ursack was pure luck, no bears around that night.
3:20 Well said, sir! "The trail is the perfect place to disconnect ... and appreciate the beauty of nature and appreciate what needs to be preserved and projected... All the Way!" ☝️🌞
I would also suggest ordering a Dog Bone from Garage Gear. It eliminates using a stick and tying a knot over your head. They weigh nothing and cost a few bucks.
I just use my extra tent stake
I walked nj and ny with full length pants and phermetherin treatment and did not find one tick on me

This is nonsense. Look at older pipelines. You cannot even tell they are there in a short time. They have to place markers to find it themselves.
The only damage to the environment was thw trash leftover from those protesters lol. Fuck your useless cause
You have invigorated my memories of being on the trail when I worked at The NJ School of Conservation from 1992 - 2010. You have reminded me of the Spirit of the Lord when I saw magnificent forms of creation along the trail. You have inspired me to enjoy even midget trails when I "hike" in Central Park in NYC. The Mountain Valley Spring Water is absolutely heaven on earth. My favorite water. I buy it by the case full… keep piping that water!

So just exactly how is this going to cost jobs and not create them?
there are temporary construction jobs for out of staters. The official statements from MVP are 0 full time jobs in Virginia and possible a few in WV. The HQ of the company are in PA, and they operate everything remotely. The product is not for WV at all, which has NO connections to the pipeline for any community. Roanoke Gas, which already has two sources, has part ownership and is a 1% customers. The product is all going overseas or somewhere far beyond the route. Economic study of 7 affected counties in Va and WV showed the damages to clean air, clean water and tourism economy would cost a total of $8 to 9 BILLION in lost economy.
And use all the Fresh Water in West Virginia for Fracking The hell out of West Virginia!!
Joe Manchin doesn’t care, he has a deal with China 🇨🇳 for a Petrochemical Hub and Fracking West Virginia put’s MONEY IN HIS POCKETS!!!!
😂 “don’t be that person” period!
Maybe I'm uncouth, but what on earth is wrong with inquiring where exactly the water is? Is it always indicated with a sign?
Just emphasis on bringing a guide/trail map to know where things are. Plus there isn’t always going to be someone to ask
👍👍👍👍👍
Don't make campfires of deadwood. Burn fossil fuels and buy this assortment of fabrics and garments instead. Oh the delusional capitalist anglo's.
i love seeing him grow
I absolutely love this movie! I've watched it several times and laugh every time! Beautiful scenery but not for the faint at heart for sure!
this is america yall, you want these dumb people off the land? bring an AR and walk them off.
counterbalance method is far better than the pct method !
How so? Care to explain?
It is absolutely not a better method. A bear can pull the second bag down by pulling on the rope, and when that bag is slashed open, the first bag comes crashing down.
This was amazing ✊🏾
Thank you for sharing.
I visited our hunting club a couple of weeks ago and my wife pulled the tick off at 3AM. I took a chance and wore my hunting duds. I actually solved my tick problem with a set of Dickies overalls with or without Peritremin or however you spell it. Of course, it's best with...pants tucked into the boots. Unfortunately it wears like a spacesuit and it's *HOT* in the summer. I nearly had a dang heat stroke working on food plots last year. Noseeums are nearly as bad as ticks for me and we have those as well. I fear them both worse than snakes. So from now on spacesuit, Perithremin (whatever) and I'm going to try something new this year for the collars and sleeves called Picaridin. Beats absorbing all that DEET. The video here featuring the fellow walking around in his shorts in the woods did nothing to raise my estimate of the validity of the effort.
