  • The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) offers many different experiences to visitors, such as hiking, camping, spending time with family and friends, stargazing, and more. ATC Regional Manager of Central Virginia Kathryn Herndon-Powell shares that though people recreate on the Trail differently, the love for the resource brings us together.

Insightful and eloquent point of view. We are lucky to have such thoughtful individuals caring for the resource. Indeed, no one person truly owns anything. The AT is for all.

Excellent expression Kathryn of the AT experience. Truly a gift for all that love the outdoors. Taking the time to engage all of your senses see, hear smell & feel what the trail provides can be such a life changing experience. Thank you for all that you & so many do to preserve this natural treasure. It must be maintained for future generations to enjoy. Best Always......Bob V

This is so beautiful, eloquent, and hopeful. The Appalachian Trail-a place where all can find inspiration, renewal, and inspiration in the beauty of nature-is also a place that offers, as Kathryn, notes, common ground for different types of people seeking to enjoy nature in different ways. In our world full of divisions I don't know anyplace on earth that creates such a sense of community and immediate connection with other humans of all types than the Appalachian Trail. Thank you ATC for all you are doing.

Try to plan so that you can always take the side trails and make it a point to stop and smell the roses. Do your best to take it all in. Because, when you get back to the ridiculous rat race, you are certain to regret not taking the extra time or walking the extra miles.
