GCC Router/Firewall Speed Testing

There have been some questions about the speed throughput on the GCC6010 (Grandstream Converged Communications) device. Well let's turn on and off all the options and do some speed tests! When a creator (me or anyone else you watch) do a speed test with a single device behind the router/firewall it may not be an accurate test of how the device will perform under load. @@GunniBusch1 Go tell Ubiquti to push out EdgeOS 3!
I have it and works super, the only thing is that they need to add firewall rules
Nice video, thanks! I'm still waiting for reverse DNS lookup support. I'm currently using two Synology NAS's as my primary and secondary DNS servers. They work great, except for extended power outages, since the NAS's don't last as long using UPS compared to my Unifi UDM-SE. I guess if I use Unifi for DNS, there's no real need for a backup/secondary DNS server, because if my UDM-SE DNS is down, chances are it is down and there won't be any Internet access anyway (but I guess internal DNS queries won't be dependent on Unifi if I stayed with Synology).
I run several hestiacp panels (Web,email, dns) and it's FREE, separate dns cluster, cctv system for different sites over vpn, crypto validator, crypto worker and nodes. The nas is purely a nas no apps installed used for cctv, email and vm/lxc backups, storing video and photos.
I run My own dns cluster, think I will wait until it's been tested to death and back before trying unifi version of dns.
Unifi needs DNS over HTTPS (aka DoH) support... I've decided to dump Unifi slowly and unfortunately. Their company has taken a bad turn and doesn't seem to be coming back.
Does it support PTR records ?
Would you have info on migrating devices from Controller 5.14.23 to Network 8.3.32? Finding few conflicting instructions in searches. A step-by-step guide would be great.
@@Integrate2 that controller is known to have a major security flaw. If it's exposed to the Internet I would proceed as though it's compromised.
@@WillieHowe Thanks. I used Forget for each WAP and the USG, and adopted from 8.3.32. All is well. thanks for your vids.
I find DNS records very useful when connecting remotely via VPN. It is much easier than memorizing an IP address when needing to access a remote resource.
Not really ready for primetime without CNAME support.
I see some references to "dynamic routing" in the documentation but no mention of OSPF or BGP support. It would be a major miss on Grandstream's part if this was left out.
Where at in the documentation?
I have ran into using a special MX record internally when dealing with AS400 systems. But that was some time ago, in a land far far away!! LOL
Without going into great detail in a comment, for those people that have multiple WAN IPs I could see this being useful.
I have used an internal MX record when when hosting an exchange server and wanted my MX records to be different than the public. Very small use case scenario.
We are planning to buy UCM6308+ Third party PRI gateway and GXP 2135 (100 Phones), to replace Avaya system. Please suggest if the UCM setup is the reliable solution.
@@zamsee74 buy the GS PRI gateway
@@WillieHowe Thanks for the suggestion. We are using vlan 10 for data and 20 for voice, Can GXP 2135 get the voice vlan 20 using dhcp option . While allow the PC to connect on vlan 10
So I know of a few companies including my bank that have internal emails that cannot send emails to the outside world nor receive them. This is probably because they are too cheap to buy something like slack or whatever else people use for this use case. Anyhow this approach I think is good at preventing malware from being sent to people in departments that don't need to communicate with the outside world anyway.
Hello I saw Unifi ad NAT configuration, could you do a video how to setup or ise it please.
Great video, definately an exiciting product, kinda makes Cloud hosted PBX not even worth it at this price point. (Definately a bonus) Are you planing to do a speed test with 2.5Gbs WAN/LAN through it?
For the Domain Forwarding, this could be used to black-hole public domains you do not want resolved internally, by forwarding the queries to an invalid DNS server IP (to return SERVFAIL responses), or to an internal DNS server that is hosting a Root zone (so it would return NXDOMAIN responses). If your hosting multiple internal domains on different internal DNS servers, you could also use the Domain Forwarding to redirect those queries to the appropriate internal DNS servers. Mind you, this functionality can also be done via 3rd party DNS servers such as Pihole or AD DNS (if your running AD DNS in your environment).
The MX would be for those who run their own mail server like Mail-In-A-Box I would think. I'm going to play around with the DNS stuff on my 2nd test Unifi setup later, should be fun. Thanks for the video, Willie.
It's sad that Unifi is getting features I wanted now that I am only using their wifi.
@@Practical-IT You can't deploy today based on promises for tomorrow.
@@WillieHowe😂
fax machines need it for voip
You are not blocking QUIC specifically, you are blocking all UDP traffic on port 80 & 443 which is broader than QUICK itself. What if some other service wants to send UDP packets on those ports?
Thanks for the video! What about if I wanted to assign static IPs to my devices on the VPN, so that they retain the same IP when they connect up again? Is that functionality not possible with this setup or am I missing something?
I have a car gate controller on the phone line that uses ## to access the controller. The dial tone from grandstream does not respond to this key . How can this be modified?
Never bought their gear so they can't dump me or rape me for hard drive money.
Their version of Cloudkey
Router being used is edgerouter, but who is VPN service provider? Like NORDVPN, etc.
One dac is fiber dac or adac and the thicker ones are copper

I use a ER4
ERX always and you can still remotely monitor it on UISP. DYNAMITE comes in small packages!
My Synology is getting kinda old and I took a chance on the 2-Bay 424 with N95 CPU because of the 2.5 GB NIC and support for Plex. It's not that bad. Better hardware than Synology gives you. In time, if I am not happy with TOS I can wipe it and go with TruNAS Scale or unraid.
Can I use my same phone number on this system?
In my experience Zerotier is great but anything that is latency sensitive i have had a bad time with.

Thanks great video, I wanted to ask you I recently bought two Grandstream gwn7003. But so I will never have the same firewall features now present in the gcc series?
@@franksambiase I'm not sure about that. But for now there is not feature parity.

@@timd6324 it's a totally different class of device. GCC has multiple modules that do more than just the firewall and routing.

Great video - why is so hard for consumers to buy Grandstream products? I called them and they said they only have distributers that sell to retailers and they would get back to me but never did. It seems like they don't want to sell their products except through small distributers who usually sell to resellers who are in the phone system or specialty markets. CDW was the only "normal" place but they don't have the Grandstream GWN7665. Why do they not want consumer customers and home labbers? Anyone know where to buy the GWN7665 at a reasonable price?

this kinda lacks explanation... who manages that new network, where does the dhcp come from, is it like real vlan that requires smart switch, none of the settings there are available in new interface,...

I really like Grandstream but that new Unifi Ultra just beats anything now...
@@pbrigham There is so much more functionalty unlocked with the GCC -- two total different classes of devices. People taking security or voip seriously will use this over anything UniFi.
@@WillieHowe Yeah, but most security can now be done by just filtering DNS, I use an external DNS filter regardless the router, is the best way to keep bad stuff out.
@@pbrigham we're going to have to agree to disagree that DNS filtering can keep out most of your security threats. DNS filtering is just part of the puzzle.
