Bozz’s South Devon Tour July 2024
Two days riding legal unmetalled roads in Devon. The video doesn’t show it well, however the surface in this compilation of clips is slippery solid rock face strata. Apologies for the very last clip being the incorrect awkward orientation, as with the heavy rain and wet hands the camera changed from 360 recording to single portrait mode!! Note the care and respect of shared spaces applied, where we would turn engines off and push our bikes past walkers on narrow sections ……. same with horses. Video shows a some gates, however there are very few gates in Devon. In two day’s covering 200 miles, we came across about 6 gates 😊👌. Enjoy
Ride leaders report below:
Did the count last night.
Saturday we covered 105 lanes and 120 miles! 3 gates.
Sunday - 0 gates , 80ish miles and 78 lanes!
Two different weather days. Sunday see some rain and very slippery lanes particularly in the afternoon.
Couple of offs for some, and a few bruises and aching limbs - but that's why we wear the protective gear we do.👍.
Cheers boys for a great weekend.👍👍
Thanks for organising and leading Bozz 👌

This is the original route to London where regular water access hollows were required throughout the route for horses and cattle. In 1555 the condition of such up and down valley routes were degrading, so a law was passed requiring the local Parish to maintain their sections, but often not done. It was only in 1822 when this track was bypassed by a new higher therefore dryer main road towards R...

    Hello, to be clear it is better to call them "unsealed" (accepted by Defra) as 'unmetalled' can be taken to mean that it is not 'made up' at all, and that's unlikely to be true as past laws have required all vehicular roads to be made up. The original meaning was based on the Latin for stone or quarrying but has been used sometimes to mean tarmacked - so we can never be sure what unmetalled means! If people get the notion that we are using routes where the surface cannot take our traffic, then they will see it as unsustainable and will try to stop us. Thanks.

    Yes, it is sensitive. There's currently a Consultation being considered, but we have no idea what they will come up with - and even if it will be legal. The emphasis is useful - we only ride "fully legal byways", but don't let any of the public get the idea that there is such a thing as a "not fully legal byway", because there is no such thing. There are no 'loopholes' over where we ride - they are all Roads. Avoid the highly misleading term "unclassified" - they are not all unclassified anyway ... just means that they are in a lower class along with 60% of roads in England and Wales. Routes that we use are either Byway (BOAT - a public right of way for mechanically propelled vehicles) or County Road (on the county Council's 'List of Streets' along with all other Roads). It's just that the Roads we enjoy are not tarmacked - they are unsealed - like 75% of the world's Roads.

    • @cotswoldmusings
      @cotswoldmusings Před měsícem

      Thanks Mark. I use the term legal so as to avoid incorrect assumption (by general public) that riding off road (as per these videos) is in anyway stretching or breaking the law. To the uninformed the lanes in these videos are difficult to be seen in anyway as roads, hence my emphasis in laypersons terms - before assumptive inaccurate comments are made. By making reference to sensitive and respect for shared spaces, we are demonstrating consideration to others plus care taken by us. I’m sure you know full well some people like to pedantically pick holes in anything and everything, no matter how considerate and careful one is.

Only thing is the new Model Y will get rid of the steering wheel left and right stocks. 😢 I owned a 2018 Model 3 when it first came out. After 6 years of ownership, with all the numerous over the air updates. It was a totally different car. You can’t have that is any other car. That is the best part of owning a Tesla. It’s always evolving to customers input. By the way, I just found out. Once you turn the wipers on, with the left stock button, immediately use the left scroll wheel, to toggle right or left for wiper speed. No need to use the screen. It’s allot safer to do it this way. If you press the boot button and just open that, the Pivi system doesn’t start up, sometimes i reckon I open the boot 20 to 30 times a day as I use the vehicle for work. Also if you leave a normal door open It will shut down after a few minutes (I’ve had the doors open all day whilst the dog sleeps on back seat) Never had a low battery warning in 3 years. It’s the opening and closing that keeps firing up the Pivi system .

    • @cotswoldmusings
      @cotswoldmusings Před 6 měsíci

      However, this is a very narrow ‘don’t do and avoids’ where for many family situations and scenarios it’s just not realistic to manage behaviour to prevent systems booting-up in the background and risking a flat battery ruining your day, event, trip or whatever. For sure it’s impressive you’ve managed well within these parameters and avoided this widely known annoyance. Jeremy Clarkson is on record stating they stoped using JLR vehicles as camera cars etc. for this precise reason.

LOL, imagine being away at a camp site over a weekend, and you and the kids go in and out of your car 30 times over a weekend and because you literally opened your doors, your battery is flat. If this was my car, I'd be taking it back to the dealer for a refund.

      To a greater or lesser degree, this issue applies to all modern cars. For various reasons most cars on the road are driving around with low state of charge batteries, meaning a lot of drivers could be caught out. But, yes in 2024, for the Defender to not have ‘camping mode’ feature so that the vehicle can be used for its intended purpose is damming and should’ve been fixed with a software update 3 years ago!!

      @@cotswoldmusings Do you think even 1% of Defender owners go camping with their vehicles?

    Thanks for your feedback...In 12 months of ownership of my 23 Defender I haven't had to call on JLR for assistance. I've had an interim service and health check done and the Dealer's service has been professional. (I have owned 3 Land Rovers since 1997)

    Hi just picked mine up, and you are absolutely right ,they still don’t tell about the rubbish boot space, wish I had kept my 3ltr diesel se. Wish I had done some more home work. They are still having issues with supplies, it came without mud flaps,tow bar,sidesteps, and scuff plate,wheel arch protectors. Good video thanks .
