What really hits home about this is the fact that Maverick, once a very reckless and ignorant fighter pilot that was nothing but a liability to him, became a rival, before finally a rival and close friend, is likely the last person outside of his family to talk to Ice. You can tell by how his wife Sara breaks down, the dark cloud of time that he has weeks, likely only days, until Ice passes. Yet despite his pain and suffering, Ice is still looking out for Maverick and Rooster, having remembered how Goose's death affected Maverick during the end of their Top Gun days and that dogfight against the MiGs when Iceman nearly lost his life due to Maverick's pain. He still ordered Maverick to see him. However, it wasn't just to give him one last peptalk. Iceman knew his time had come, and he told Maverick to meet him....to say goodbye. And it is a fitting bookend to their rivalry that the last line he says is: "Who's the better fighter pilot, you or me?" Showing that they were still rivals, and they'd ALWAYS be friends. Maverick and Iceman were wingmen anytime, anywhere.
Even though his friend is dying... Maverick refuses to admit that Iceman is a better pilot. I'm sure Iceman respects him for that instead of lieing to him
I think it would have been better if Mav answered the last question with "Me...who else has an Admiral as a wingman?"
PHENOMENAL acting by Tom in this scene btw
Mav cares about Rooster because it's his only connection to Goose
Amo esta pareja de guapos me encantó la película
not real sure ANY acting was going on here... these are real emotions when your friend is END OF LIFE
2:47 “what?” 2:52 “I figured it out” 2:57 “finally, what took you so long” 3:00 “You love me?” 3:03 “Yeah, Ive been right here in front of you” 3:09 “I love you too” 3:14 “Im gonna kiss you now” FANTASTIC acting
I can't believe they had to fight to bring back Val kilmer to Top Gun. He was so hugh in the first one. A top notch great actor. TV
This scene was absolutely beautiful and bottom line, perfect. You can see that Maverick is still living with the guilt of Goose's death. Ice knew this from the start... he always told him, just like Viper did, "you gotta let him go... "
The whole movie was worth it Iceman’s words ❤
This movie caught me off guard in so many ways. Such a compelling story while addressing the issue of aging - I enjoyed it so very much
I want to eat ice
Ice > Mav
Dayumm! Dayummmmm!❤
I thought Iceman was speaking gonna Made me sick
working to involve VK in this flick was an act of complete class. Those 2 were the weight of the first movie as students, then became the weight as teachers.
1 of hug you see in a movie
Val Kilmer will always be legendary
Thank you Iceman
“I don’t know how…” Damn. That line was delivered with perfection.
nicely acted and directed
This moment was more romantic than the entire Twilight series
アイスマン カッコいい〜〜
Best scene of the movie, really great movie!
This “sequel” was better, by far, than the original. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are truly two of the best actors of our generation.
See the cursor blinking at the final character of the “It´s time to let go” line? Even that subtle detail adds up to the grandeur of this iconic scene
Saw this movie for the first time yesterday. This scene....especially seeing Ice struggle to speak every word.....just tore my heart out.
It's a paradox that Val Kilmer was a way better actor in his prime but Tom Cruise has a greater career. It shows that talent is not everything you need. Kilmer was difficult to work with. But if someone wants to argue that they were equal or Cruise is was a better actor, watch "The Doors" or "Tombstone". There is no way that Cruise could play on that level. But he is much smarter about planning his career and dealing with people.
This scene was sad, poignant, and so sweet, all at the same time.
Nice of them to write Val's condition into the movie.
Guy might have had some initial setup.. but love could also be be an emergent properties with AI.. in other words.. that love he senses could be entirely his own
It was incomplete without ice man!
Let's All admit it, despite Maverick not answering Ice's question, Maverick was and is the better pilot! I believe sometimes, things known, are best left untold. Tom played the better man here. Me, I would have lied and said, You are Ice.. and let him go on his way with that.
Moments are forever.
I'm glad I didn't watch this movie.
That’s why uncle BJ told me fight for him. That’s why I’m here for him.
"One last thing".........a true moment between brothers. Not only as their characters played in this film but as professionals in their craft who clearly have a mutual bond and respect many would fail to comprehend.
How my wingman? Can u get any better than that?!!?
It definetly wouldn't have been the same movie WITHOUT VAL KILMER.
best scene, undisputed
I want to talk about work. There’s still time. Then teach him. It’s time to let go. The navy needs Maverick, the kid needs Maverick, that’s why I fought for you, that’s why you’re still here. One last thing: Who’s the better pilot? You or me?

the score is such a masterpiece

Many years for this sequel to happen and how this plays out is magical. The wingman says 18 words. Priceless. One reason I joined the Navy was Top Gun. No one can forget that opening music and the flight deck scene. When you see it on screen then within three years later your watching it for real on the crows nest and feeling the power of a F-14 Tomcat screaming at full after burner in the ocean at night on a crisp night on your first ship, you cannot ever, ever forget it. This movie did it justice. Bravo men and woman, Bravo.
3:17 In fact, she kisses only one man in this movie. This here is nothing.
I love how the movie flows from one game to another....like from GTA to SIms...ahahahh!
This was a very best moment of a long best friends meet together that it will cherish forever ❤❤❤
I have basically been a Val Kilmer fan my whole life, I grew up on his movies. This scene tugged at my heart strings in a way no legacy sequel to an 80s action flick, had any right to do. Val still can do a powerful scene, even when he can barely speak, the man is amazing.
Best scene in a a film in a very long time,!! Brought me too tears!!
