Im late to the season this year -- going to pickup my Hanger(trialer) next weekend and hopefully I will be flying by the weekend after or at least at the fleid doing some engine runups/testing🤞. I don't think i could adapt to flexwing flying. All my experience is three axis and I fear that in an emergency my control inputs would be the opposite to what is required. Your remark about a flxwing being a flying motorbike is exactly what I think about them.

My friend who is a stick and rudder pilot of many years related to me his first hang glider flight. He was coming in too fast to land so he pulled back on the bar….. Needless to say he ended up buying some parts for his friend’s glider as well as tending to his injuries. He seemed very intrigued when I described the Flylight planes to him though.

I know what Terry means when thinks are not the same as your norm, I have been having time in the right seat and it feels strange with stick in left hand and throttle in the right and having a spinner off set to the left.

Hang gliding, I loved flying the aeroelastic wing, performing much like a bird without mechanical control surfaces (I'm licensed in sailplanes and power also), but the ONE thing disturbing me was the pilot being flexibly connected, allowing the wing to dramatically "unload" and nose over in thermal conditions. Firsthand knowledge more than once, flying mountains and you can't ever forget it. Well, that and bouncing off the bottom surface a few times struggling to regain control from a tumble. These aircraft seemed to have solved this with rigid connection to the wing. I wish more popular here in the States.

Yay! Terry & Giles together! Lovely wee flight and very similar experience for Terry as my daughter (commercial pilot) had trying to get her head around the control inputs 🤣If the weather ever plays ball I hope to welcome Terry to East Fortune at some point!!

@GolfFoxtrot22 thanks for video! - I'm curious as to to what extent a of a flexwings gives advantages over PPG from the point of view whether you can fly ok under stronger winds and/or a little more turbulent air? Maybe like would a flexwing give you double the weekends you could fly compared to PPG, or 20% more say, or are they pretty much the same?

@GolfFoxtrot22 I saw the ANT trike frame on the Aeros site and wondered what the pros/cons are to the new FlyLight Nine Trike frame, and why you got the latter? ANT frame seems very light. Anyway just curious. Great videos.

Best I have flown is either the SPITFIRE IXT or SEA FURY TT20. However my Best Flights was Booker UK to Raigarh India in a Cessna 172 in late Dec 2007 early Jan 2008 ( it was better because I enjoyed having taken G-CURR (Y) through Pakistan & India ;-)

Great video Giles. Always great to hear people's flying history. 1982, soloed in Air Cadet Kirby Kadet Mk3. Nice old wood and canvas glider. Joined up in 83. 85 gliding at RAF Dishforth in K7 and K13, agree, very nice gliders. Had a Malcom Club award of £200 for gliding training. 2001 started PPL-A training and was working on Eurofighter Typhoon. This year hoping to start NPPL training and move into Tempest Design job. Bet Aircraft flown. Jet Provost low level over Yorkshire moors, although aerobatics in a Harvard was close second.

I also started with PPL: Cherokee Warrior, Cessna 150 aerobat, Cessna 172, tiger moth and Victor airtourer. Gliders: Blanik, Piper TG-8. Trikes: Airborne XT, Airborne V-Lite (sub 70 I own). Hang gliders: Moyes Malibu, Airborne Fun Fun-2 190 (I own) and Moyes Gecko (I own). The hands down winner is the Airborne Fun Fun-2 190 Hang glider... This is flying like a bird 😎

94 for you, 93 for me at 614 VGS RAF West Malling. So What happened to the ATPL hopes then Giles? 16 years after getting mine, it's time to get back in to the air but for fun. Still hope to join you guys up there one day. Such a grin on my face watching this. Oh and it was that first flight in a DH Chipmunk at 13 that did it for me!

Nice video again Giles. I see you and Paul are using the Quad Lock mounts. I've just fitted one to my PB, yet to fly it, but have the powered mount and the AV mount fitted, which makes it 'look' a little bulky. I assume that the AV mount has been deemed unnecessary as you aren't on the deck that often?

It is funny that the RAF stopped my flying / keeping my licence. I had a fair number of hours before I joined but apart from glider towing early on most was paragliding, hang gliding and a bit of paramotoring towards the end of my time in the RAF. I started in 1977 glider scolarship the 1978 power scolarship with ATC. For me the flying that was my best memory was the Chipmunk with the ATC.
