Review of Ut Kilts Deluxe Black Utility Kilt
Love this. Would want one ❤
Great reviews. I just found your channel and have some kilt experience but not with utility kilts. Now that Utilikilts is up to $360+ in the inflation of 2024 with Kiltman being $180 or less still, would you still recommend the Utilikilt Workman? Is it worth the added price difference with that switchback waist adjustment? Thanks
I'd go with the Kiltman for sure. The quality of the two are very close. I've put a serious beating on my Kiltman over the years and it's still going strong.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 thanks 👍
Great review, thanks! The pockets on the kiltman are so cool
I don’t care about the attention. Leave me alone personally. I just like wearing kilts.
Hi from Scotland. At what point does a kilt no longer become a kilt? "Most kilts have snap fasteners" Nope they do not not. Buckles at the side. for dress (normal kilts) one or two belts for the Feileadh Mòr (grate kilt). Pouches on the belt not pockets. Over complicated front on this for me. Wrap around works in a dreichy windy Scotland got to work any where. Each the their own.
Cool kilt brother I own 5 kilts my self
I'm looking to get into the world of kilts but I'm a little hesitant to drop $100+ on one. What is your opinion on Damn Near Kilt Em? I ask simply because I want something affordable to test the waters with before committing to a more long-term investment.
Damn Near Kilt'em is an excellent place to start if you are wanting to get into kilts but don't want to break the bank. I haven't worn one but I have friends who have and they have been satisfied with them.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 Thanks for the quick response! That's good to know.
These kilts are WAY overpriced. There are kilts from UT Kilts and USA Kilts that are compatible for less than half of these
I've got kilts from UT kilts, Damn Near Kilt 'm, and the the quality isn't even close to comparable. I've worn out three UT's in the the time I've owned my Kiltman. Not to mention the far superior pocket system. The extra $50 I paid was well worth it.

Thanks for sharing your review on the Utilikilts workmen. Thinking of getting my first of Utilikilts. 😎🇺🇸
If you want comfort and a lightweight kilt go with the Spartan or the Survival. But, if you want a durable heavy-duty kilt that you can beat up on then get the Workman. Any kilt you get from them will be great, they are all good.
I've had my Mocker for almost 20 years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. I bought my Leather, finally, this year, and I adore it. Utilikilts are a rock solid company, and they produce nothing but top shelf products. This video is making me wonder if I shouldn't pick upa Workman for camping trips, though...
Just an FYI, I don't think these guys are in business anymore. I can't find their website anywhere. I was going to price check, but they literally have vanished.
Yes, he did close up shop. I guess he had trouble with suppliers to the point it was too much trouble to keep going. It's a bummer. I have 2 kilts from him and was gonna get a third.
Steve closed shop for several reasons. I'm gonna miss his kilts.
Steve weston of angry bastard kilts passed last year....I loved his kilts and still wear my warhorse and pub kilt.
LMFAO!!!!!! So, were you doing a Marilyn Monroe pose? Was it with the wind we heard in the last video?
With that wind I know for a fact you would be doing a Marilyn Monroe pose to keep the sack flapping in the wind.
I carry in my tactical sporran in a DeSantis pocket holster. I'm interested in this one though. The amount of pockets are insane!!!!
And it's durable as hell!! I've put mine through everything and it still holds up great after seven years of hunting, hiking, fishing and everything else I can throw at it.
I literally live in the same city as these guys. Well, kinda. I live in Ogden and they're in west Ogden. They are pretty good and Brice is great!!!
I've had issues with the quality on two out of the five I own, the rest have been good quality kilts.
That looks great for style and utility! Thanks for the review…
Been just going with 5.11 tacti-kilts for a few years and just last week placed order for my first utilikilt (workman). From what I’ve seen on your reviews, its going like night and day upgrading to a quality kilt.
I don't own a 5.11 but I know people who do and they all say good things about them. I know there is a huge difference between the lower cost brands and the Utilikilt or Kiltman kilts. The material is heavy so the kilt weighs quite a bit more which may take some getting used to. I think you will be impressed after wearing one for a while, especially once it's broke in and loosened up. If you've ever worn Carhartt bibs or jackets you know what I'm talking about. They are stiff at first but once they get loosened up they are awesome, these kilts are made of the same type material.
I am glad the hammer loop does not hang out there like on work pants.
It's tucked away nicely. You forget it's even there if you don't use it often.
Nothings up .
Thank you for making these videos! I'm a new subscriber.
Thank you!
Do you have a link for them? My googlefu is failing on being able to find them. Thanks
I don't. I'm not 100% sure but I heard that they went out of business. It's a shame too because they were a high quality kilt for a reasonable price. They are similar in design to a Ut Kilt or Damn Near Kilt'm but the material is heavier and higher quality. The one I have doesn't fit me anymore I should probably sell it.
Conceal carry kilt 👍
I think you need more pockets on that kilt! 😁 Thanks for the review.
😄 no kidding!! I like a bit of storage when I'm in the sticks. When I'm around town the pockets come off.
If you havent already made yourself a full mask sporran you should. 👍🥃
Thank you for the pocket demo. It is what I was wondering about.
I like the the adjustability for the waist size. I think IWB would be feasible with this kilt. Thanks again!
Great review. I've been worried about how to carry in a kilt. Those slash pockets look like they'd easily hold a Ruger LCPII. Do you think they could manage a Springfield Hellcat? Not sure I'd want that banging against my leg in a cargo pocket.
I have an LCP and it fits easily, the hellcat would be unconformable as hell I think. My XD fits but not at all comfortably. The way the pockets work there's very little movement, no flopping around, like you might expect, plus you can move the pocket up to your belt if you prefer. Your gun stays completely concealed and protected without any printing. To me it's the most comfortable way to carry.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 Thanks for the detailed reply--especially that bit about moving the pocket up to the belt. I hadn't considered that.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 Oddball question, and sorry to bother considering the age of this video, but I have to ask. Is the internal holster a full slide retention holster, or would it be suitable for a firearm with a red dot? In my case, I carry a Sig P365x w/ Optic, but I know that not all holsters allow carry with optic.
@@sebastiang8634 the pocket is designed for a sub compact, my Springfield XD is a snug fit. I can fit a Hellcat with a red dot but I'm not sure about your Sig. The internal holster is a bit generic as far as holsters go. It's a stretchy nylon type, kinda like the retention on a belly band. It works great since the pocket completely covers and protects your gun.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks for the reply. I ended up ordering a kilt and some pockets to try it out and see what works. Worse case scenario, I know I have a minimalist holster that can connect to MOLLE, and the webbing on the inside of the survival pocket seems just about right for that.
I have 5 kilts by different companies, I'm impressed
I have two utility kilts i got from Amazon, the quality is not bad for low priced kilt.
Found my scot heritage. Told we were irish all our lives. I want to respect my heritage and wear one. What reactions do you get?
I have gotten positive reactions from everyone, especially women. I have people come up and ask me questions or give me compliments all the time. I think you'll be surprised at the response you get.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 thank you for your response. I'm waiting until its a little warmer here in NY to get mine.
@@sethjenna2561 I wear mine all year here in Utah. If you keep your core warm and wear some good kilt socks you can stay pretty warm. When it drops below 29 I their on some under armour.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 Are you of Scottish ancestry or just like kilts? If you are Scottish, I've a few questions as this is a new discovery at age 37. I KNOW I'm clan MacDowall(mcdowell) because its the longest line in my tree.. however, I have SOME clan Campbell in my history and Stuart. That said, is it proper to wear any of them or just stick to MacDowall? First kilt I get will be a utility kilt as it'll be my every day type kilt, McDowall next for special events.
@@sethjenna2561 my ancestry is Norse, Scott and Greek. I'm not as familiar with clan traditions as I should be but it's my understanding that you would wear the tartan of your father's family first, but it would be acceptable to wear a tartan of the clan your family was associated with, like clan Campbell for example. And if I could make a suggestion on a good utility kilt, the Kiltman is a superior kilt if you don't mind paying the extra money. They are less expensive than a Utilikilt but more than the Tactikilt. But if I were to choose a utility kilt between Ut kilts and Tactikilt if go with the Tactikilt. The material is a little heavier and it's held up a little better. Both are good kilts that will last you a long time.
Are you Scottish

Has anyone had a problem with the closure studs going through the front pocket? One side is fine but the left pocket has the row of studs punched through it. Just close enough together to allow only a single finger through, so perfect or loosing change and keys in so you cant get them out without taking it off and shaking it upside down! Kiltman wont reply to me so I'm asking on here!
Never had a problem with them. I returned a kilt due to a sizing issue and they were quick to respond and sent me the new kilt on good faith that I would return the other. They've always been great with me.
I've got 3 UT kilts, and like you said, for the money they are great. I couldn't be more pleased.
I literally live in the same city as these guys. Brice is awesome!!! He's a really cool dude!!! Sport Kilt is in Heber, so they are kinda close, but since I don't drive I can't get to them, but it isn't too hard to have them ship cause they are pretty close.
Steve, would you consider a review of kilts "in the field," like at work, on the trail, in the garden? A kilts in action video demonstrating what you call abuse.
Sure I would!
A wonderful tradesman kilt. I'm excited to get my utility I ordered, I can tell you. But I haven't found Kiltman Kilts at Amazon. 🙂
You still planning on doing the mashup on all the kilts? Thanks for your reviews.
I’ve owned several utilikilts over the years, but the new utilikilts kinda suck. They all come with a corset on the back now, and when I work it snags on everything. Any suggestions for a new brand to give my business to?
Give Kiltman kilts a try if you're a fan of the old style Utilikilts. They are just as will built and have a far better pocket system, especially if you use them for work. I've actually switched from the Workman over to Kiltman's Pubkilt for work. Both kilts are great but the Kiltman is more versatile.
Kilted and Bearded holy toledo thank you!!!
What a well made looking garment.
Very well made and durable.
Carry a gun...???!!!
Yes, carry a gun.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 I am so glad that I do not live in your country. I would feel very unsafe.
I can understand that and respect it, it's a cultural difference that may be hard to understand if you were not raised around guns. I will say this however, every single person I know with a concealed carry permit would be the last person to commit a violent act. They never under any circumstance brandish their weapon or cause trouble. The community I live in has had maybe two murders in 45 years, violent crime is non existent and nearly everyone carries a gun. Would be criminals know the risk therefore they don't attempt the crime. Concealed carry is a common practice here, particularly in rural communities. I spend a lot of time in the wild, encounters with bears are common and I prefer my .45 to bear spray.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 my courteously on the road improved the first day I started carrying, and my son says he had the same experience. For some reason when you're armed you become more polite toward others, and whether you're riding or on foot minor offenses are allowed to pass without so much as a second thought. Truth is I prefer the company of armed people, as a general rule they are reserved and more thoughtful in their actions. I'm confident you've experienced the same, as this seems to be a universal truth. Also you've sold me on that kilt. Looks like I could ride at highway speeds without finding the hem blowing up around my neck.
I have the Black Work Men Utilkilt for over 20 Years, still looks New,
I love my Workman, it's a great kilt. If you like that type of kilt the Kiltman Pub kilt is excellent. Similar construction to Utilikilt, just as well made but quite a bit cheaper. The pocket system is much better than any other kilt I've tried. Lots of different options, easy to remove and they can be worn in the belt or attached to the kilt. The perfect kilt would be a combination of the Workman and the Pub kilt.
Wearing this as a formal kilt? No. Smart-casual, perhaps. Definitely not formal.
Still waiting on those final two videos you spoke about at the end of this video but great reviews so far
Hey man, great review. I'm looking to buy my first kilt, is there a way I could ask you some questions about the ones you have? Like sizing, wear time, where you sit them on your hips, pricing, etc. I could really use a recommendation. Do you have an email address or something I can write you about my doubts? Thanks a lot man, keep up the great work
If it were me buying my first kilt I'd go with Kiltman. Their kilt sits on the hips like a pair of jeans and the pricing is great considering the quality and features you get. Sizing depends on the company and they all list how to measure on the websites. Some go off jean size, others go off your actual waist measurement so make sure you check. I usually size up. I measure 37" but order a size 38 in the ones that go off actual measurements. In Kiltman I size up one over my jean size. If you are looking for an inexpensive kilt that still holds up extremely well then I'd go with the Ut kilt deluxe kilt. They sit a little higher than the Kiltman (around the navel), but they are durable, light weight and comfortable. I currently own UTkilts (4 of them because of pricing and I'm reviewing them soon), Kiltman, Stumptown, Utilikilt, Angry Bastard, Sportkilt and tactikilt. My 3 favorites are Utilikilt, Angry Bastard and Kiltman. I honestly can't choose which I like better, it just depends on what I'm doing that day. Each manufacturer has their own strengths and you can't go wrong with any of them. I'll have a couple more reviews up this week that may answer more questions for you. I like to wear a kilt for at least six months before reviewing it so I know for sure how they hold up. That's why it takes so long between videos. Nobody is donating kilts to review so I have to wait to make a purchase first.
I am considering a utilikilt. But have never had a kilt before and wondered about some of the practicalities . . . Like how does a hammer not pull your kilt down? And can you ride a bike in a kilt?
The way the kilt fits around the hips keeps it from pulling down. When I wear jeans I'm constantly pulling them up or adjusting them, I never have that problem with a kilt even with a drill hanging from it and a couple water bottles in the pockets. As far as riding a bike goes, you can do it just fine.
I finally made mine
Fantastic!
I Love this kilt! Just one question,...is this the Brown (A), Caramel (P)? Thanks! - Mike The Two-Tone Utilikilt is no longer available for purchase in the Brown (A), Caramel (P), per their website.
That's the one! I'm impressed with how well the color is holding up. I have another kilt from a different manufacturer that I've had to dye twice so far and I bought them at roughly the same time. The Utilikilt is holding up extremely well, especially since I wear a kilt every day year 'round.
How well does that holster pocket protect the trigger?
As well as can be expected from a soft holster. You obviously don't get the protection and confidence of kydex, but with the positioning of the pocket and the materials used it is adequate for safety.
I personally love UK's Workman, my second one is on it's way. My first one was gifted to me by my dad, who wore it for a good 15 years. That kilt still holds up amazingly, though a little faded and curled. Since it was an older kilt, I'm curious about the switchback design.
The switchback takes some getting used to but it works great.
@@kiltedandbearded6895 thanks Steve, and I'd agree. It came in the mail yesterday, and the biggest change for me is how light it is. The Proto-Workman feels like it can stop a bullet, but the new one is a nice balance between durability and comfort
Great info. Thanks
