For viewers: The reasons why NOT to stay at a ryokan in Tokyo actually start @03:39. I've booked at Yuen Shijuku Onsen Ryokan (without meals), where there is a gorgeous openair rooftop hotspring (my "nature" is the city), no curfew, luggage drop-off, and public transport close by. So all the reasons in the video are not relevant to my wishes.

Living anywhere without knowing the language is challenging. I did this in Sicily and was able to do most everything by learning the money exchange and good gesturing. I never tried to speak and because my clothing matched locals, they naturally assumed I was a quiet & private man. The only thing that ever bother me while visiting was the extreme racisms toward one of my ship mates. I can only hope I do not encounter racist who shun others because they are different cultures or colors.

  •  Před 11 dny

I would add one more and that is fake reviews/ratings. This one is quite common in english speaking countries, but until few years back it was not very common in Japan. The reviews used to be quite useful and representative of the actual quality of food or service. Now you need to pay as much attention as everywhere else and sometimes people forget about that. If you see a lot of 5-star reviews AND a lot of 1-star reviews, that is a red flag. If you look at the reviews and there is a lot of 5-star reviews from people with little or no other reviews, that is a red flag. If there is a lot of 5-star reviews in general, that is also a red flag. Japanese people rarely give 5-stars even if the food is excelent. This is not a huge scam that will cost you an arm and a leg. Usualy the restaurant will still be priced ok-ish and the food will probably still be safe to eat, but it might ruin your evening so it is better to be careful.

First off, disappointed and "outraged" are not the same. It's likely they were disappointed. If the media in Japan reports it as "outraged" that's just media hype (click bait). Likewise, if you go to a cheap restaurant (anywhere) and expect authentic cuisine YOU are making a mistake. If you want a quick and inexpensive meal, then don't worry about the name on the menu. Read what is in it then decide. Japanese "pizza" is also different than what most in the West expect. It doesn't "outrage" me. I just order something else. (^.-) On the other hand, Japanese McDonald's is better! And the toys in the "Happy Meals" are MUCH better (bring home to the kids of friends and be a hero). Short Version: Media Hype = Nonsense

The reason why Italians don't like is its to sweet due to the ketchup having a much higher concentration of sugar than crushed tomatoes lack of seasoning especially herbs apart from the onions and sauce lacks acidity but it make sense why they used ketchup due limited access of fresh food after the war. Also don't think of California rolls as sushi just think of them of sliced おにぎり then it should be okay. Will get to try very soon in September along with 納豆

You do occasionally see people eating at a restaurant here is Australia with head phones on. Sometimes it is just just considered to be their personal preference. Hey, maybe they have a great podcast going on there. However, nine out of ten times it is looked on as an expression of a mental health issue. Given this widespread understanding, people don't think of earphones as rude at an eatery. No, its more like how can I work with this individual's issues. Oh, but this doesn't apply to people on their phone when dealing with wait staff or the people at the cashiers desk at a supermarket. These are universally considered rude, degenerate scum.

This is a reminder of the importance of having enough situational awareness when visiting Japan to understand you are in another country as a guest. Instagram traveling is a poor fit in a very structured society like Japan. Go because you are interested in the culture, everything unfolds from the culture in Japan.

Some people are selfish, some are not. It's that easy. Nao can't say it that way. (^.^) I can, and I'm IN Tokyo. Starbuck's (even in Japan) will allow Customers to sit all day (and order nothing). That can contribute to confusion. Which businesses let you stay and which don't? But it is not as difficult as many make it. LOOK AROUND. If you see a line, then be nice and let others get their meal (you've had yours). Nao prefers tatemae. I prefer honne. Tatemae gets more "likes". Honne saves time. (^.-)
