from a foreigners perspective, the shibuya crossing is amazing because of its sheer volume. it may be just a big crossing to the Japanese, but its a completely insane size crossing to a new zealander and it was a lot of fun. also Shibuya 109 has the best vending machine in japan - hokkaido whipped cream ;) Rokurinsha i found in tokyo station was well worth the line, and so was Katsudon Chiyomatsu in Osaka. thanks for a great video and your english is very good :) i am back in japan in september and i cant wait!

Actually, you are a winner! Shibuya Crossing is free, so if you enjoy it, there is a perfect spot to go😊
Hokkaido milk is amazing, so whipped cream, ice cream, sweets, and everything else are really good!
Rokurinsha is always crowded....Yes, it's a good and popular restaurant😉 Beleive me, there are so many ramen restaurants in Japan like Rokurinsya😘
I'm glad to hear that you are coming back again! Making more videos before that as much as I can😎

I believe many Japanese and also foreigners go to Fuunji (in Shinjuku). Their Tuskemen are very popular. The taste is technically different from Rokurinsya, but it is not that different, so you may like it. If you are looking for another taste in Tsukemen, I would recommend Tsukemen Kinryu (in Ogawacho). It's also very popular, and the taste is completely different from Rokurinsya but delicious😉
Both restaurants are super busy even after lunch and dinner time...I gave up several times because of the long queue😲
Thank you for your suggestion, too👌
I hope you have a good time in Japan again😊

I actually stumbled or more or less walked to some amazing places yesterday. Bangoku Garden and Yosuie Garden in Wakayama. The castle was also nice, but beware it took me hours through the heat to get to those places. You need a car, still I'm so glad I got to see those amazing places, the sun burnt face and neck was worth it.😊😅
Today in Kyoto I went down from the Fushimi Inari through some path explicitly signed with "not exit" and found myself in one of the most magical places ever. After that I found Tofuku-ji. It was already late so I kinda got kicked out, but that place is beautiful and silent( partially under construction). Still how amazing were the allies around that shrine, like in some period drama.
A tourist path is nice, but you need to get off the trail sometimes.

@@JapanwithNao oh, no worries, it was not forbidden to go that route, it was just not that touristy way of going down from the top. As someone who has respect for other believes/religions I'm extra careful at shrines or cemeteries. I might not have the same belief, but that doesn't give me the right to disrespect them. I won't ring any bell or lighten any candle for photos, that is disrespectful to me.
Thanks for the quick answer, now I'll jump over to Osaka castle and see which temple, shrine or district I end up in.

2:21 I agree with konbinis being overrated. Neighborhood groceries are better for me to the point that before I book a stay I always check if there is a local grocery nearby.
2:49 Tech is dependent on the culture that creates it. Given that Japan still uses fax machines and still use a mountain of paperwork it's tech only serves Japan.
8:26 Yes, Shibuya Crossing is widely overrated. What makes it really bothersome is the many inconsiderate tourists taking pictures while crossing when I'm just trying to get to the other side.
I think your points all have one thing in common: social media. Everyone wants a picture to prove they had a "unique Japanese experience" and it less of truly experiencing something personal and meaningful in Japan.

I agree with most of what you said for my own reasons. What I didn't realize was how much skill is put into creating a hamburger steak 😂. very interesting)) I have never been in Japan yet, but much in some other countries , and also from general life experience, I must say, you confirmed what I have long suspected watching many videos about Japan) As in every country, you must watch what to buy where of foods) and also same as just to visit main tourist places... well... if you are such a fan - also in your own countries, go often to such places... idk, I think every person has own preferences - either buildings or concerts/ events or country side, or historical buildings/ places etc. - but to visit main places from a tourist guide ...well lol

@@JapanwithNao yes, thank you for respond) I also did mean, to me it is a bit suspicious. We can take bento packs at rail-way-stations, for example. As to me, bento is interesting when made by yourself or your family or friends, with love to you. Otherwise bento is interesting if it is a special ingredient/ special famous producer , right? actually as with all the foods lol. Still - "buy bento at stations" say everybody. At the same time some mentioned "older people prefer eat something from home, bento or not" - they say , because of money... well maybe... but to me , taste and quality is secured that way lol. And also - why bento? Is it not possible to take other pre-cooked foods. Or - I only saw once that someone took that self-cooking hot noodles package. My point - I am already suspicious about taste of any bento on the go lol - of course I would try it of curiosity. But it was nice to hear from you that you also prefer secure quality of foods )) not just take bento but take what really good foods for you ))

While I found your video interesting, I must point out that the things you mention are part of your upbringing in and familiarity with Japan. Visitors to Japan have never experienced them and, therefore, find them interesting and, sometimes, awesome....even though a native Japanese resident may find them "ho-hum". As an example, the first time I arrived in Kyoto station I was awed by both the architecture and the abundance of stores/restaurants. I'm sure that to locals it's just another place to shop and catch a train. The same holds true everywhere you go. The things you may find awesome, strange, quizzical, etc. are merely the things the locals hold as normal, day-to-day parts of their lives.

Kinkaku-ji is worth seeing but it is indeed overrun with tourists and you just walk around the building with one thousand people taking the same photo (I know, I did). I prefer the ryoan-ji for example, where you can take your time sitting in front of the rock garden and enjoy the atmosphere.

Agree re convenient stores and train lunch boxes. Never understand all the hype - handy to have when you need something but so what 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also thought Asakusa was an overrated area, but in fairness, it might have been the crowded conditions that made it unpleasant and touristy.

    Thanks Nao.
Well... with 120 days of every year in Japan and having worked (not just visited, worked) in 28 countries I see these items a little differently.
PLUS... you DID ask for input... (^.^)
Ninja / Samurai - True, it's like cowboys in America. It's an ideal, but you won't find many. Battlefields are interesting (if you know history).
But, honestly, if you "admire" Ninja / Samurai the best action YOU can take, as a tourist, is being invisible. Quiet. Calm. Respectful.
Maid Cafe - They are for Beta males (passive / timid) to meet / talk to pretty girls. Be honest, JP has lots of Beta males.
Konbini - You can't buy business shirts or women's underwear in US konbini! Makes me wonder what "fun" JP people have after hours that requires these items be replaced. (^.-) By comparison, US konbini is limited to fuel, snacks and drinks. Not much else. So, the JP konbini can seem like a tiny department store and that alone can be fun (and helpful).
Technology - Don't buy tech just because it is the latest. That's wasting money. If what you have works, use the money on more helpful things. On the other hand the Avatar Robot Cafe (Chuo Tokyo) is brilliant. This cafe is using robots to END loneliness (specifically for the disabled or shut-ins). My point is to FOCUS on state-of-the-art in JP, not where JP lags. (^.-) SIDE NOTE: How quickly people forget. "Cashless" sounds great until there's a large earthquake like 2011. Then all the readers are "dead" because power or networks are down. No transactions are possible. I had many friends complain about this in 2011. Be careful what you ask for Nao. (^.-)
Capsule Hotels - It's the concept that JP will put themselves in one that amazes gaijin. (^.^) I was in the Navy and had much more space on the ship than you get in a capsule hotel. Don't confuse gaijin curiosity with admiration. (^.-)
JP people - Set your expectations: JP are polite. That's not the same as friendly. (^.-) By contrast, gaijin are often "friendly" but obnoxious. This can cause awkward / embarrassing situations. The Internet is filled with videos of gaijin making fools of themselves in JP. High expectations is not a bad thing. (^.-)
Conveyor Belt Sushi - Yes, it's not the best quality but it's FUN. And, see previous entry, they use technology to keep it fun. (^.-) Also, see previous, behavioral expectations at a "real" sushi shop are much higher. It is more like a formal meal and some aren't seeking that.
Shinkansen - Perspective: If you ride trains in other parts of the world you appreciate Shinkansen. Let me put YOU (Nao) in San Francisco, Beijing, London, Chicago, Paris... and you will be screaming for the SAFETY, peace and comfort of JP transport. (^.-)
Ekiben - You nailed it. Concur. Good call. (^.-)
Queues (Ramen) - Again nailed it. Wasted time. Never have queued for ramen. Don't plan to.
Shibuya - Cliche. Hachiko Dog, Crossing, etc. Useful if you want to be able to say "I'm been there!" Otherwise, not much point.
Akihabara - "Otaku Central". A bastion of Beta males. (^.^) The girls in the maid cafes leverage that (¥¥¥). It is what it is.
Get outside Tokyo / Osaka - Yes.
Tokyo Tower / Sky Tree - Yes. Look at them but it's not necessary to go UP in them. For the view, other options exist (Tokyo Metro Bldg).
Ice Cream Gold Leaf - Never heard of it. Pass.
Kinkakuji Temple - LOTS of temples and shrines in JP besides this one. Regardless, wherever you go, please BE RESPECTFUL when there.
Now, let the comments blast me. (^.^) But I'm HERE (JP) and you can learn the easy way or the hard way. (^.-)

Thank you for watching, and now you are one step closer to being nominated Nao's Most Dedicated Comment of the Year Award 2024😂
      Sightsee as a Ninja..interesting😊
Yes, I understand the Shinkansen is better than other bullet trains in the world...Especially the train I got in India was delayed 24 hours and was always shaking.haha
Japanese convenience stores also sell products for emergencies. Underwear and shirts are prime examples. When your clothes get dirty during a trip, or you can't make it to the toilet in time... there are people who are saved by underwear sold at convenience stores😂
Appreciate your comment! Have a nice week👌
