Hello and welcome to my channel! The Lone Adventurer channel is dedicated to tabletop solo gaming, especially games that provide a sense of adventure and exploration. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, then this may well be the channel for you!
Games I have played on the channel and enjoy include Miru, Barbarian Prince, Four Against Darkness, Pauper's Ladder and many, many more.
And another thing - I also love drawing and spend quite a bit of my time creating top-down and isometric maps that might be useful for those who enjoy rpgs. If that sounds like your sort of thing, search me out on Instagram - I'm ways.unseen.
If you want to get in contact, you can find me on Twitter (link below) or you can email me at loneadventurerplays at gmail dom com!

This is a lot of fun. I bought The Castle of Blackwood Moors but haven't played it yet.
Lone Wolf was my favorite gamebook back in the day (and still is!) and I agree 100% with your assessment of why I like to go back to them! You've got a new sub, too!
I really should give Lone Wolf a go - especially with the new editions being released. Thanks for subscribing!!
thank you SO VERY MUCH for covering gamebooks! not enough channels cover the genre! love this video!
Please show the edge like you did with the fabled lands book to see which book number. I like to see the binding to get an idea how thick it is.
I found the setting interesting even though I'm not a steampunk guy in any way shape or form. They have made it interesting.
Yes Fabled Lands sounds great. If you find a way to simplify the overall play and not get overwhelmed, I would enjoy the attempt.
Yeah, I'd love to get it to the channel somehow. Might be I play the game and film a video part way through my playthrough so everything is full swing...
I too was taken by the streampunk setting of this game so purchased it. I've tried to play it twice but can't seem to make much progress, I never seen to have the right codeword or object to allow me to make many choices. I just end up going backwards and forwards along the roads in ever diminishing choices. I hope you have a better gaming experience with this game than I have. At the moment I have no inclination to try it again, perhaps you can inspire me to do so? Such a pity, the setting promised so much.
I would LOVE to see more game books covered - it allows me to learn about and get and more game books for myself. So please, please, please cover more game books so I can expand my horizons
My first book was "Crystal of Storms". Got hooked on gamebooks/cyoa/fighting fantasy. Cant read any "normal" books anymore ^^
Steam Highwayman is an awesome series. Martin did a great job with it.
Cheers Rich.
@@martinnoutch You're welcome. Put it up there with the great gamebooks... Fabled Lands, Way of the Tiger, Freeway Warrior, Lone Wolf and then better Fighting Fantasy ones. Really is a top set of gamebooks.
My god Fabled Lands sounds amazing! I look forward to you playing that on your channel one day
Adore gamebooks. Have you seen "Expeditionary company " books? You need the 3 of them to play the game. Quite unique and interesting. Would love to see you play this one.
I have seen it and I have coveted it! Sadly, it looks too substantial for me to be able to justify getting a copy and I'm not sure I would have the time to dedicate to it / get familiar enough with it to play it on the channel. Unless I find myself in a position to unexpectedly retire soon :D
I’m playing this right now - just finished a session. Loving it so far.
Reminds me of the "Choose Your Adventure" books. I can only imagine how much work goes into planning these out. Since some of the earlier options were section 800+, one might need some kind of a graph-tree to make sure it's all lining up. Pretty interesting game and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more.
Yup the mind boggles at all the branching options. Hard to believe that it is made by one person!
@@lone_adventurerIt's a ton of work, but very satisfying. Currently planning Steam Highwayman IV set in Devon and Cornwall.
@@martinnoutch no doubt, but still very impressive 😀 Glad to hear you are pushing ahead with the series!
Ordered! And yes, you have rekindled the childhood desire to write one of these books!
Oh I'm right there with you! But there are some talented people out there making books like these!
Thanks for the order, Matt. If that desire burns strong, you'll find there's quite a community of people writing these again, very encouraging and ready to share.
@@martinnoutch it looks great and I cannot wait to play. I would be interested in an interview or a discussion on how you go about creating one of these. Seems quite daunting!!
I love adventure gamebooks! Thank you for covering this fascinating gamebook. You've piqued my interest in this book, and I am going to get a copy. Thank you!
Glad I could bring it to your attention 🙂 keep an eye out for part 2 of the playthrough coming soon!
@@lone_adventurer Part 2? Yes!!!! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for the notification! Thanks!
I am so HAPPY I have something to new to binge!!! You're voice centers and calms me. Thank you for your dedication!
Ah thanks 🙂 hope you enjoy - next part out next week I reckon and then we'll see how fast I can record new parts 😉
What are your favourite gamebooks? Do you prefer them to be kept traditional or do you prefer more modern options that push the boundaries of what can be achieved in the format?
Give me the more modern options... or the original CYOA. Or Fabled Lands. :-)
@@martinnoutch Easy to tell you are a fan of Fabled Lands ;) Congrats on porting their mechanics into such a unique setting!
Fabled Lands!
But you are right...massive. Still havent finished book#1. Lifetime series
i’m flexible either way - all the systems, old and new, tend to be simple to pick up.
"corny gron" means "black rocky river bank / black mountain" and it's "c" is pronouced more like first "c" in cycling
It would be awesome to see you playthrough this game more maybe with some of the expansions.
This is really high up my list of things to do!
"Am I going to remember that? I don't think so." Sounds like me! Thanks for posting this series. It was a lot of fun.
Yeah, if a game asks me to remember more than three things, I'm gonna forget one of them 😁
Near the end, I'm yelling at the screen (and a year into the past): "Don't sell the relic! You need it for secrecy!"
Haha, I make some questionable choices 🙂
You have sold me on Miru, I'll get that and its sequel.
Good decision! I haven't played the sequel though I'm sure it'll be as enjoyable as the first one 👍
I know it's way too late for the raffle, and I have Realm Fables, anyway, but I figured I'd take the opportunity to talk about my favorite fantasy world anyway. It's The Atlantean World originally by Bard Games. The reason I love it so much is that it's broad - including well over a hundred countries covering the entire planet - but not deep - most countries are only covered in a few paragraphs, and even the more extensively covered ones don't include a lot of history or NPCs or the like. This gives me a varied world with a lot of different societies and cultures, but lets me fill in the details myself when they become important instead of locking me in to a lot of deep lore that just gets overwhelming. This makes it great for solo play...
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing.
You sound a lot like the English actor Donald pleasance
Do these games have a digital version where you can increase the text size?
All of these games are available digitally.
Oó😮
I just found your channel. You find a lot of great solo games to play.
Glad you found me and I hope you enjoy the games you discover 🙂
Correct me if I’m wrong, but i thought that the crit WOULD make an additive roll for that die. For example, a Weapon Master with D6+D4 would roll and count each die separately. But if the WM crits its roll 2D6+2D4. The rules say to double them and shows it formates like this if i recall correctly. The 2D6 would be totaled together, then the 2D4 would be totaled together (but apart from the 2D6). A “1D6+1D6” crit format doesn’t make sense, because the floor is still zero damage, and the peak is still two per die. But a “2D6 combined” format raises the floor to one damage and the peak is now the top of the damage chart you pretty much never use otherwise.
Hopefully you see this, not sure how to resolve this. I started my first game and in my first room I got frightened by a Giant Spider, giving me -20 to all rolls. My resolve & dodge is 20 so I can't try flee or resist the fear effect, but also can't attack as I can't approach the spider...
Well, the Frightened condition in that particular case only lasts for 2 rounds, so you'll have to wait it out. In any case, if this is your first game you should have started with the intro Domain at the back of the book.
@@alejotm000 ah didn't notice the 2 rounds at the end.. and yes I suppose the tutorial is probably the best place to start 😁
I have the Arcanist ability to shoot arcane missiles. Is this a normal attack roll after spending Aether? or automatic damage, and is d4 arcane damage affected by armour?
@@paulianhodgson any magical ability requires no skill check, it happens automatically. The enemy does get a Magic Resistance check, though. All damage you deal must go through the Damage Dealt table, but magic damage ignores armor.
For anyone interested, I took the map tiles and put into mini-sleeves and cut off the top of the sleeve. Just wanted to see if I could protect the tiles a bit better. I don't think I'll try this with the smaller pieces or the monster/pc tiles, but I think it will work well for the map tiles.
Grotten, the Dark Souls of 1-bit dungeons! Where a rat and ruin your day, lol.
Ha, that rat really did a number on me 😁
Lovely little game.
I backed this on kickstarter cuz I loved the whole vibe. Not had a chance to play it yet, so it was good to watch you give it a go 😊
Reminds me of a print and play called Pocket Cthulu. Great little gem that sadly got left behind and wasn't picked up as much. Came out bout the same time as deep space d6 and maquis. Fun little game.
Hey, Sunzenaut here :) Glad that you liked my game! Just a quick note: You can't encounter a Boss in Corridors, only in Rooms. So your first and only Luck point was wasted avoiding that first boss encounter ;) And of course you met Nightmare when you wanted to show a boss fight. As you say, that one is completely insane, kind of a joker boss :D Regarding the DR, I definatly intended to write "equal to or above 12" like in Dark Fort, not "exceed 12". Also, the "minimum of 1 damage regardless of armor" is supposed to count for both PCs and enemies :)
Hi Sunzenaut - thanks for your comment (and your excellent game)! Ah yeah - I could have used that luck point a few times ;) I almost rerolled the Nightmare but I was low on time so went with it! Thanks for the clarifications - I'll pin the comment so people spot them.
Enjoyed the playthrough! At 33:45 you rolled a boss monster in a corridor. It looks like you could have saved your Luck point. The rule for corridors given above the Encounter Categories says to "reroll if encountering a Boss."
Indeed you are correct - a luck point would have come in super-handy a few times!
It might be a good idea to make all dice rolls with "advantage" when playing this game. This adjustment allows you to roll two dice instead of one, and then use the best result.
I just received my copy yesterday - I'm a bit nervous to cut the tiles out, but I'm excited to play it.
Bravo !! 👍
Nice! Didn't expect any coverage on this. I kickstarted it and have it now but have not had a chance to play yet. Back to watching your playthrough!
Enjoy the rest of the playthrough! And then check out the game - its easy to pick up and play!
@@lone_adventurer Still watching. I'm on an 8-hr plane flight wednesday night and wondering if I could bring this on the plane and try it out a bit! Looks like it could be small enough to try....
@@LordGwydion you totally could! Might be worth drawing the tiles as cards then drawing the resultant map on a piece of paper in case of turbulence ;)
There are guides in the zine for using the game with just pen and paper, no tiles 🙂
My only complain with those kind of games is that any card that is smaller than half a poker card, I find a bit uncomfortable to handle. Of course you can always print it again to scale and it does affects portability a little bit but nonetheless I wishe it was bigger
Yeah they are a little fiddly and you can't get much on them; I consider them more of a bonus - you can easily use them as a prompt to draw you map and label what you found in each room in whatever way you want.
Cool little game! I like that it's MB compatible. Got mine set up on the table now.
Oh yeah that's definitely a bonus! Look forward to seeing you cover the game on the Dungeon Dive at some point!
Looks like a nice little game, and those small square dungeon tiles are brilliant! Thanks for the playthrough!
Agreed - love the tiles and love the 1-bit art style of them and the tokens!
Fun in a simple, unassuming package with an admirably small footprint. Thanks for your review!
I need to quit my job to play more games... I also need the job to pay for the games I want to play...
Welcome to my world 🙂
Hi buddy, can you recommended any software or printing service for cards. I have the physical copys of the Lair expansion along with its digital counterpart, and the digital copy of the haunted house expansion. Im trying to find away to get the additional monster cards printed to add to my deck but I cant work out how to order the pages so they print with the back and front images correctly...... Any advice would be massively appreciated. Also, do you have plans to play 2D6 Realm when it comes out? Ive backed it on Kickstarted after this video got me onto 2D6 dungeon ( you have a lot to answer for :D )
Hi there! Here in the UK, I use Doxzoo for my printing. They don't print cards. They may print double sided onto card, though your pdf would have to be formatted perfectly. I just print onto A4 and then stick the fronts and backs together manually, cutting out the cards afterwards. Going 'full print and play' is a bit of a commitment, but worth it, I think. Feel free to email me if you want more info. Unfortunately, I didn't back 2D6 Realms - just had to accept I probably wouldn't have time to play it anyway 🙂
