What are your favourite gamebooks? Do you prefer them to be kept traditional or do you prefer more modern options that push the boundaries of what can be achieved in the format?
Give me the more modern options... or the original CYOA. Or Fabled Lands. :-)
@@martinnoutch Easy to tell you are a fan of Fabled Lands ;) Congrats on porting their mechanics into such a unique setting!
Fabled Lands!
But you are right...massive. Still havent finished book#1. Lifetime series
i’m flexible either way - all the systems, old and new, tend to be simple to pick up.
thank you SO VERY MUCH for covering gamebooks! not enough channels cover the genre! love this video!
I would LOVE to see more game books covered - it allows me to learn about and get and more game books for myself. So please, please, please cover more game books so I can expand my horizons
My god Fabled Lands sounds amazing! I look forward to you playing that on your channel one day
This is a lot of fun. I bought The Castle of Blackwood Moors but haven't played it yet.
I am so HAPPY I have something to new to binge!!! You're voice centers and calms me. Thank you for your dedication!
Ah thanks 🙂 hope you enjoy - next part out next week I reckon and then we'll see how fast I can record new parts 😉
Steam Highwayman is an awesome series. Martin did a great job with it.
Cheers Rich.
@@martinnoutch You're welcome. Put it up there with the great gamebooks... Fabled Lands, Way of the Tiger, Freeway Warrior, Lone Wolf and then better Fighting Fantasy ones. Really is a top set of gamebooks.
I found the setting interesting even though I'm not a steampunk guy in any way shape or form. They have made it interesting.
Thank you for this one. I love the story that you crafted in this episode. Looking forward to the next one.
I love adventure gamebooks! Thank you for covering this fascinating gamebook. You've piqued my interest in this book, and I am going to get a copy. Thank you!
Glad I could bring it to your attention 🙂 keep an eye out for part 2 of the playthrough coming soon!
@@lone_adventurer Part 2? Yes!!!! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for the notification! Thanks!
Reminds me of the "Choose Your Adventure" books. I can only imagine how much work goes into planning these out. Since some of the earlier options were section 800+, one might need some kind of a graph-tree to make sure it's all lining up. Pretty interesting game and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more.
Yup the mind boggles at all the branching options. Hard to believe that it is made by one person!
@@lone_adventurerIt's a ton of work, but very satisfying. Currently planning Steam Highwayman IV set in Devon and Cornwall.
@@martinnoutch no doubt, but still very impressive 😀 Glad to hear you are pushing ahead with the series!
Ordered!
And yes, you have rekindled the childhood desire to write one of these books!
Oh I'm right there with you! But there are some talented people out there making books like these!
Thanks for the order, Matt. If that desire burns strong, you'll find there's quite a community of people writing these again, very encouraging and ready to share.
@@martinnoutch it looks great and I cannot wait to play.
I would be interested in an interview or a discussion on how you go about creating one of these. Seems quite daunting!!
Lone Wolf was my favorite gamebook back in the day (and still is!) and I agree 100% with your assessment of why I like to go back to them! You've got a new sub, too!
I really should give Lone Wolf a go - especially with the new editions being released. Thanks for subscribing!!
My first book was "Crystal of Storms". Got hooked on gamebooks/cyoa/fighting fantasy. Cant read any "normal" books anymore ^^
Adore gamebooks. Have you seen "Expeditionary company " books? You need the 3 of them to play the game. Quite unique and interesting. Would love to see you play this one.
I have seen it and I have coveted it! Sadly, it looks too substantial for me to be able to justify getting a copy and I'm not sure I would have the time to dedicate to it / get familiar enough with it to play it on the channel. Unless I find myself in a position to unexpectedly retire soon :D
I’m playing this right now - just finished a session. Loving it so far.
Yes Fabled Lands sounds great. If you find a way to simplify the overall play and not get overwhelmed, I would enjoy the attempt.
Yeah, I'd love to get it to the channel somehow. Might be I play the game and film a video part way through my playthrough so everything is full swing...
Please show the edge like you did with the fabled lands book to see which book number. I like to see the binding to get an idea how thick it is.
I too was taken by the streampunk setting of this game so purchased it. I've tried to play it twice but can't seem to make much progress, I never seen to have the right codeword or object to allow me to make many choices. I just end up going backwards and forwards along the roads in ever diminishing choices. I hope you have a better gaming experience with this game than I have. At the moment I have no inclination to try it again, perhaps you can inspire me to do so? Such a pity, the setting promised so much.
