    Why didn't you continue to use the grease gun to push the piston out?

    The brakes in my 80 cb900f wouldn't release because the smaller of the two tiny holes in the master cylinder reservoir was blocked.

    Dave, hi from Australia! I have overhauled a few of these, and if you remove the back pad first you should have enough clearance to push the piston out with the grease gun (but I would normally try carefully with compressed air first) - if not, you can still use the grease gun once the caliper is split as it is a single-sided piston design. Another useful tip is to clean the seal groove using a Dremel and one of the small wire wheels, it does a great job reaching the back of the groove, and corrosion here is the most likely cause of the piston being held by the seal pressure. Nice bike, and certainly different!

    I seem to recall that here in Australia we used to call the Suzuki 750 triple two stroke water cooled, the "water bottle". Pretty quick, would go past everything but a petrol station.

    It's a 'Bob Newby' clutch and belt drive. Not just for racing. Beautifully designed and manufactured as well as a pleasure to use. A far superior part than the original for many reasons. I constantly have bikes like this brought to me by owners who bought without asking someone who knows what they're looking at. I no longer take on the worst of these bikes as the abuse from people who bought a lemon and refuse to accept they made a mistake and don't want to pay to put right the bike.

    I had a fuel tank like that on mine & the last thing he needs, is have both fuel cocks open. He'll run out & need that reserve soon enough. My current MKIII has the 5 gallon tank, which is more practical. Lovely bike there, good luck.

  • @jdudb
    @jdudb Před 13 dny

    The oil tank is correct and original, the KSS and KTS mk2 had froth towers. Also looking at your other video, the piston is absolutely the correct KSS piston. All KSS engines had compression plates supplied with them, notes in the instruction manuals explained what fuels to use if you took them out. You had to change the Oldham coupling to get the length of the vertical shaft right when changing the compression. When splitting the crankcases, it is very important to get the crankshaft endfloat accurately between zero and one thou. or you will get loud bevel noise as you have. Also it sounds as if the Oldham couplings are worn, they make a real racket if they are not a tight push fit. It does not look like a bitsa bike, it looks like a lovely and original 1937-8 bike.

    £18k for that pile of scrap, diabolical!!! This is a graphic example of why anyone buying a high end classic bike should never trust a dealer, they should find a marque expert from the owners club to examine any prospective purchase before parting with money. Better still, join the relevant owners club and buy direct from a club member. I often browse ebay looking at goldies, Velo Thruxtons, Vincents, the usual contenders, and very often I see the signs of fakery and botchery, even from superficial examination of the photos. And most of the time it's dealers!!

    Seems like ALL the english vertical twins sound like such rattletraps when ideling--- ever notice - like their ready to break. Seams like they need a good valve adjustment at least! I Owned a 67 kaw. 650 w 2 and a 68 w 1 and they did not sound like that at idle, they sounded SOLID not ratially. One other thing i noticed about british big twins is they had points for EACH CYLINDER which is a pain in the neck to synchronize to the other cyl, where as the kaw w 1 + w 2 cyl's ran off of only 1 set of points, Eliminating the synchronization synchronization between the 2 cyls, which meant the spark plug would fire on the exhaust stroke when the opposite cyl. Was in power stroke--- big deal-- small price to pay compared to trying to even out the points to the other side! Japs had good batteries in their thinking caps it appears, eliminating/ recognizing--- and getting rid of that PAIN IN THE NECK PROBLEM, and having both cyls totially synced to one another! Why couldn't the brits ever figure THAT little technacallity out❓sure did make tuning much easier!🤔
