Curious to know the secondary reading for the lucas coil
thanks for the driving video, quite entertaining!
beauty GTM!
Another great video, thanks.
Another great and informative video. So much of what AC shows us I would never consider. Such depth!
That’s the point, people don’t consider the bits that matter.
Loving your channel AC
Glad you like it.
Hi AC. I've got a series 3 that's had loads of mods including nitros (currently not using it). I'm after it being set up properly as it always to be overfuelling. I live Preston, Lancashire. Do you ever come up this way? Thanks Jb
Series 3 what?
@@ACDodd Sorry, J plate 1991 classic mini. It's had quite a bit done on it but I'm struggling to get the fuelling right.
I go most places, it’s usually th cost that prevents me Travelling too far. Contact me on Facebook messenger to discuss.
Hi AC. Could you explain what you do to bypass the ballast wire please?
Simply run a new feed cable from the ignition live circuit to the coil.
..for a beer👍
Thankyou very much!!
Thanks again AC for this episode!
Brilliant Chris that’s what you call a review
How can I go about getting in contact to book your services and do you do Morris Minors?
Contact via Facebook messenger, yes I also do tune Morris minors. If you search my playlist you will find some
GTM such a good looking car
My reaction in this video is comedy to see! Was a great day, can’t thank you enough AC
You were certainly surprised when you put your foot down!
That GTM looks awesome!
Thank you very much Sir, great to see this happy faces once the tune is done 😍, feels like a new car...
Excellent!
Great video! Thanks for the testing idea using the press and rubber mat. I was able to do that today and it's nice to know that it's going to be OK before going to the trouble to put things back together. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Could you just unhook the negative battery terminal when checking the coil ?
Yes
So do you work your way down to 1000 grit or just do it with 1000 grit from the get go ?
You have to work your way down the grits.
Wish I’d Have known you were in Holmfirth Any way well done
If you were machining the heads of a V8, which face can you rely on as a reference plane? The same question when machining a V8 short block. Where do you set the reference plane, before machining the head mating surfaces?
Main bearing tunnels for the block using the cam tunnels as a centre reference plain. For the heads it does not really matter as long as inlet manifold face angle is correct with the head deck surface after machining.
Excellent and magnificent as always. Thank you!
Once another A series metro or mini ends up in my hands I'll be in touch. Excellent videos.
Great tip for a starting point. Closest l got was with 2 stroke oil so far
Those Radford’s are stunning!
Thanks for the video. I learned a lot.
I put a mini spares stage 1 on my 998 Mayfair . It ran ok, the biggest difference I found was that it climbed hills easier in top. Brilliant as usual AC.
Incredibly in depth analysis. AC you’re more akin to a surgeon than a mechanic/ engineer . I’m seeing a degree of knowledge that I never knew existed! Love your videos.
Thankyou!
Hello Mr Dobb I would like your help and advice please pal. I have a hif44 with a fuel leak. Order a rebuild kit and the fuel needle and seat are wrong which came in the kit. The fuel needle has a sprung loaded top the 1 which came with the kit had a dome top, will this work because it not dame which came out Please help Ta
Yes it will work fine, they don’t make the spring loaded version anymore.
@ACDodd So is the float gap going to be the same 1mm,

Great video , I'm looking for a small coil to replace The standard 12 volt 'Lucas' type . Must be 3.5 or more ohm primary resistance ............. Any ideas ?
Why more than 3.5ohms?
Nice review. Can you tell us where on the fuse box you connected to +12volts? Also, most timing light instructions state to use an external battery, not one running the engine. I have not found using the car battery to be an issue, but is it something to be concerned about?
No concern, there is less electrical noise when using a separate battery. Use the connection on the fuse box which is ignition live, and a classic mini this is the connection that has the white colour wire attached to it.
Good to have Chloe there to film the work involved in a full tune up. Not everyday you get an offer of marriage one very happy customer.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hello and thanks for the video. i have a coil with primary resistance that tests within specs but a secondary resistance that tests a bit high. (secondary range is supposed to be 2.4k-3.5k, coil is testing at 4.37k). is there any problem with running this coil? what impact might it have?
No I think the ones I use are much higher than that.
Great video! How do I go about booking your services for a on the road tune?

Superb video...clear point...dead on
Who's the guy doing tuning in Taunton?
Watch my fb page in August.
Nice video. Practical and to the point. Regarding the centering of the tailstock it might be worth mentioning that you need to take any twist out of the lathe bed first by using shims under its mounting points. Otherwise your tailstock will not be centred all along the bed length.
I did not realise you had these sessions, will see if I can join next time!
I’ve recently installed an HIF44 carb on my engine and I’m working through the tuning process. I’ve got an innovate wideband to check the mixtures In what order do you normally tune them - spring, needle then oil? I have started with red spring, BDL, LZX1505 damper and 20W oil and it was super lean and boggy I’m now using yellow spring, BCE needle and 20W60 oil and it’s much better but not finished yet I guess I’m concerned that tuning to suit the wrong spring or oil will make it harder to pick the needle
Spring needle then damper and oil.
@@ACDodd is there a general point at which to swap from red to yellow spring? Do you need to observe the piston rising under load or can it be done static?
@@timsminigarageall tuning is always best carried out under load.
@@ACDodd my compression ratio turned out a bit higher than I’d originally planned for. I get occasional pinging at part throttle and I’ve only been able to stop this by reducing the timing (I have a programmable timing curve). Would it be best to remove the vacuum advance and run more mechanical advance to get better low to mid performance under load? At the moment it’s a bit compromised And yes the best option would be to lower the compression ratio but I’m trying to work out the best way to do that

bummer i missed it, was at the races . so i guess ill just watch and learn.
Sorry Troy!
Just sent this to my dad, we have a Hillman Minx Mk.V from 1952 (which you can actually see on my channel!). Love what you're doing on the channel, it's great stuff. 😊
Thanks for the feedback, glad you are enjoying the content.
Who’s Uncle Rodney? OFAH?
That’s my t shirt uncle Rodney came knocking with a picture of 4 conrods
Nothing like getting the curve right. Well done.
The car at 14:40 has a rattle maybe cam follower? Would you be concerned about this and replace or leave?
The reality of most minis is that most owners use second hand engines, the sound does indicate wear, but its associated with a strip down and rebuild, most owners avoid that due to costs. This is only worth fixing if it’s annoying or gets worse.
do recomend a bp5 on a 1275 as well/how could I tell what is best to run. Many thanks
No a bp6 is the one for a 1275 engine, unless highly tuned
I suggest you watch this; czcams.com/video/WbZ_mpfUl6M/video.htmlsi=ZKb8nGaVlW4P56zL
@@ACDodd thank you very much
Have you rebuilt any HO packs? Can premium cells match the originals? What is something simple to discharge individual cells?
I use a normal charger with a discharging function to run down cells you must do this under supervision so that you don’t over discharge the cells down to 3 volts is low enough. For high output cells internal resistance is key the lower you go the better the performance. Unfortunately good low resistance cells cost money, I have re used salvaged Samsung 20s and 25s cells these make excellent high output cells for standard batteries and of course use the Samsung 50S for the 21700 packs are even better the model p42 items, but all cost money unless you can salvage
@@ACDodd My 12HO have 40t. I read 50s has much less recharge life in it compared to 40t?
@@POLOLOUS3you are correct you don’t get something for nothing.
@@ACDodd have you tried out/tested those case repair kits yet? Any feedback?
@@POLOLOUS3 yes I plan to do a couple of 9ah builds soon, however all the aftermarket kits they are not as good as the originals. For standard duty using good quality salvaged cells they work very well.

Nice informative video. I have battery packs 1.5Ah which work since 2016, discharge charge made by Bülle (PRC). Can I upgrade them when they are dead? Is the battery design uniform for these tools? Thank you.
If they are lithium ion cells you should be able to replace the older lower capacity cells with more modern high capacity versions. I also did just this to a 2010 Bosch 14.4volt drill which was fitted with 1.3ah 18650 cells. I fitted 4 x 2.5ah 18650 from a a scrapped shark vacuum cleaner, and the conversion is ace, very infrequent charging now!
@@ACDodd Thank you. You are legend!
I've machined 1000s of pistons in the 80s and 90s , below the oil ring land is cam ground or diamond turned, all the ring lands I've clocked have been round .
Thanks for that input, it seems some are, and some aren’t when it comes to the A-series engines
Interesting video
