@@pjamesbridge thks for your reply...u have a pretty busy schedule I am sure.......but I found a way after receiving the Summit... I just went on multi mode and one of the layers will continue to ring it's preset while the other layer can flip to other presets without cutting out the first preset.....and then whilst playing we can switch it over now the right hand layer can hold the ringing while the left hand layer changes presets..... another way is to split the keyboard.. thks for yr great videos!! Also jus recieved my Hydrasynth Deluxe and the same way works on it as well.....

Wow, please tell that to Novation! ;-) but really I'm so glad these videos have helped. In a way they're kind of a journal of my own efforts to figure things out. It's a creative process and I still hit a wall lots of days.

Hi James, my apologies if this comes through as a duplicate - I’m not sure if the first time I posted this went through. Would you be willing to provide some hints and tips to me to re-create Jack Casady‘s bass sound on Jefferson Airplanes White Rabbit? I’ve made attempts at it and I’m getting in the ballpark but I could use a little guidance - I’m starting with a sawtooth on OSC 1 range 8 and OSC 2 range 16 and I’m thinking I’m wanting to add some percussive effect as you show here as well as some LFO for a little movement kind of like a little rumble and some distortion - I think he’s overdriving his amp a bit and of course reverb. it sounds OK but I think it’s missing some of the analog “warmth” I’m going try adding that in next. My understanding is he did this on a fender jazz bass - e.g. not using any active electronics (yet) - and I can re-create the sound on my jazz bass, but in the summit is another matter. As a part of learning, I’m trying to re-create some of the classic 60s and 70s stock/folk/blues sounds. Any help is appreciated!

I wish I could suggest more than stacking voices, trying various mono modes, bit of distortion, and maybe velocity control over release time but I'm not sure and I'm a couple thousand miles away from my Summit for the next year or so, sadly!

You would run 1/4" cables from the other instruments' outputs into the Summit inputs. Then you would go into the "Voice" menu of the Summit and enable the external inputs and also select whether you want the external source to go through the Summit filter section and effects (or effects only).

It's awesome to know that these have been helpful to you! Eventually I hope to do another round. With the 2.0 update I immediately changed the aftertouch sensitivity and have been enjoying the new FX modes/destinations.

In my experience it can get deep and dark although I've had a harder time getting the bass notes to break through in patches where I'm also using the higher end. Might just be lack of experience on my part though.

@@pjamesbridge yeah i get what you saying it sounds bit too thin without entering its board of fx and modulations. Thinner than virus a lot. Maybe ill be better off with a fat mono like pro3 or moog but still is a beautiful instrument and for the dawless it also sounds like its fm possible route are killer. And that reverb is studio high end grade or smth? It looks its a lot more fun than a mono for sure😂 u the best bro. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks! The blip does occur when using an LFO as well but in all cases it's possible to kind of cover it up a little bit or at least distract the listener from the blip. Not perfect but good enough for me!

The portion at the beginning of that video you mentioned seems to me just like sawtooth waves, maybe slightly detuned, with a slow-ish LFO modulating the cutoff frequency of a low pass filter. Maybe also a triangle wave added and maybe distortion. And I wonder if at least one oscillator is tuned down an octave. I haven't spent time with it and I'm not much of an expert but that's what it sounds like to me! Hope all is well!

So glad the videos have been helpful! I do hope to make a few more once I have time again and these are good suggestions. There are some articles on recreating pianos in the Synth Secrets series that was published in Sound on Sound but I haven't been able to dedicate the time to it as acoustic pianos are really tricky and I rely on a separate standalone instrument for that. At some point I'll look into the others though. Much appreciated!

Sounds like a resounding "get a summit" if I ever heard one. I'm currently saving up for one, such an awesome flexible poly (my first).
