Daniel’s reason for opening a dojo was to compete with and possibly shut down Cobra Kai (when Johnny was running it). From the get-go, Johnnys reasoning for reopening Cobra Kai was to help Miguel and teach him how to protect himself. Johnny’s decision to become a Sensei is selfless and seen as more-morally correct. As we’ve all noticed Johnny isn’t as stubborn as Daniel (although he does have his moments) and can admit his faults. He is more understanding and forgiving because he understands the perspective of his students. While Daniel can be understanding he usually puts his judgement and morality before listening and understanding the other perspective. Kreese is terrible but instead of telling Johnny his son needed a place to stay he kept him at his own house without telling him because he saw Kreese with Johnny. I guess being in their shoes is different and it’s easier to judge and nitpick the characters actions from the audience but despite the karate drama Daniel definitely should’ve told Johnny the situation at hand. Another example of Daniel being more stubborn and self righteous was around season 3 or 4 (I believe when Hawk left Cobra Kai to join MiyagiDo and EagleFang after the December 19th fight) he was getting made fun of by the MiyagiDos and when he looked to Daniel for advice Daniel’s response was,” Well, what did you expect? You’ve already burned bridges with everyone who cared about you”. Hawk leaves frustrated and out of hope. This was the final straw and what had sparked the fight between Johnny and Daniel (again haha). Johnny has scolded and even bullied him when we first see Hawk join Cobra Kai but it was only when Miguel woke up from his coma and Johnny was recruiting students for Eagle Fang. Johnny told Hawk he was softer than a babies ass and that he made him who he was not kreese. Johnnys way of reprimanding students is out of his compassion for them and to help them not go down the same path he once traveled. I’ve rewatched the show so many times because it’s so entertaining and I’ve noticed how Daniel does everything for Miyagi, Miyagi-Do, and himself. During the season 4 finale when the All Valley Under 18 Tournament was about to happen Daniel and Johnny both had a scene that was split and they were giving the same pep talk to their students. Johnny says they have the best chance at winning because of Miguel and Daniel praised Miaygido saying that THAT was the reason they would win. he could've at-least mentioned his own Daughter. Daniel isn’t that bad of a guy, I just love Johnny and find Daniel to be annoying and very self centered at times.

That mirror is something that happened to me when I was younger even I will say with the race and skin colour thing as well. This guy who I went to school with, kind of like Anthony LaRusso with the hair the only differences this guy was a psychotic idiot who went around blooding people his reason for doing so is just because and supposedly this guy knows karate my karate instructor said that that’s bullshit. If he really knew karate he wouldn’t go around bullying people and doing that me on the other hand the only difference really between me and Kenny is that I knew karate going in to that situation and I was able to defend myself so effectively I kept getting sent suspended for being the quote “aggressor” but my Anthony LaRusso, so to speak after I jump, kick this guy in the face he kept coming after me and couldn’t stop himself and he caused his own problems. This probably one of my favourite storylines
