Thanks for the video but i gather this is geared towards rhe colder months. Im looking for something for the warmer nonths for packing on my summer vacations. Is smartwool and darn tough socks suites for those months are well or can i get better recommendations?
This isn't even true (at least it is misleading). If DWR _only_ failed because of wearing off, then that would be acceptable to most people. However, DWR will fail THE FIRST TIME YOU WEAR IT IN HEAVY RAIN for half an hour or more (plus or minus a little depending on the jacket). That is a much greater problem than wearing out.
Great vid guys. 2 questions, how much did your packs weigh? And, what were those hoody shirts you guys were wearing?
Thanks! Pack base weight was around 10-12 lbs plus food and and water. So day 1 most of us were about 18-20 lbs and the last day closer to 10-12. The shirts/ hoodies are the OV altitude sun shirts!
If you like headlamps grab the Nebo Mycro 400, lighter than the nu25 and it comes with the hat clip too
This was really helpful. Thank you very much
You're very welcome!
What he is saying here is true. However here is my complaint. His gear just like Mini other gear manufactures are cutting down on size. Perfect example. I wear an extra large shirt. I purchased one of his hoodies and I ordered it in a extra extra large. It fits like a large. Another issue is backpacks and fast packs. Volpi, palante and yes, OV make the straps to the shoulders and the strap that goes around the waist way too short and I mean way too short. I realize I am not Brad Pitt. I am 57 218 pounds and I have yet to find a fast pack or other outdoor gear that actually is true to size. I don’t understand why it would cost much more to add another 4 to 5 inches on every waist strap and, 3 inches onto every shoulder strap. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I love the 30 L fast pack and the sun hoodie I purchased here, but both of them are too small and I ordered the large fast pack.
What is a sample daily meal plan for this hiking work flow? It seems like there is frequent food (which is nice!), but I wonder about the weight? Thanks!
meh..its one of those things (IMHO) that destination determines the choice.. in the US, shorts all day long..in the UK (having done both shorts and pants), Pants all day long..has little to do with the bug or sun factors…. Love me some Vouri’s for west coast trail walking, but definitely wanna check out your skyline shorts..that said yah “shorts vs pants”. that whole drag factor and doing big miles in pants is not really a thing, and plenty of folks (myself included) can push 20s day after day in pants w/o issue.
My narrow heels won’t stay in place in Hoka Speedgoats or Altra Olympus. I’m interested to try Altra’s new Experience Wild which have some similar features as the Speedgoats. Lone Peaks have been my go-to shoes and I’ve never fallen in them. But I’m barely over 5’, so maybe short legs make a difference??? I’m currently using some Timp 4s with zero issues.
Thank you for the motivation and video. I am registered for this year’s Tushars 70K.
Good luck!!!
I did the R2R2R this weekend, and my training was sitting in front of screens and occasional weekend hikes. Just be in shape...you'll be fine.
Not sure why I got recommended this video after a year or so. But it's totally wrong. Don't believe everything that's on the World Wide Web, people. Get properly educated before you head into the outdoors in proper wet conditions.
can I hike this in early June or am I crazy. Could I perhaps hike like 12 miles of it from one end and then hike back?
Do you take some wind pants with you at least now??
I’d be less freaked up about with people quietly setting up their tent at 11 pm then hearing people hiking through the camp. Because people setting up a tent makes sense, maybe slightly annoying but not threatening, walking through a campsite that long after hiker bedtime could be trouble. A woman’s perspective.
Thank you so much for this video. I was having a hard time getting my sleeping bag back into its sack. You showed that there needs to be absolutely no struggle at all! I truly appreciate you making and sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
I was milling arround youtube and found this. Lol! Love it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Problem with these rain clothings is the pfas forever chemicals used to waterproof them
Nothing like pacing a friend to get you fired up about your own goals. Nice work Tayson and @JeffPelletier!
Silverlight socks have been great for me.
I saw you a couple of times at Bryce Canyon and you looked like you had things pretty solidly under control. Great job!
Thanks Pamela! It went as smooth as a first ultra could I think!!
I love how food is so important and these ultra runners have ther diets down pat they know when to eat how much to eat it’s fascinating, regular ppl should understand calories like these guys do
always inspiring to hear about people overcoming these trail challenges. I need to get out more.
Good job and good advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Yes! This inspires me. I appreciate what you do. I saw you finished! Congrats on that, and I hope the video drops soon!
Thanks
This was fun to watch. Great job.
Thanks
Good job
Thanks
Couldn't have done it without you, and congrats on nailing your first 100 miler!
Thanks Jeff! And likewise, I couldn't have done it without learning from you!
Love your videos! Glad you were able to get some miles in with Jeff. Hope Bryce Canyon went well for you (just checked and I see that you finished! CONGRATS!!!). Can't wait to see the video! I'm looking forward to my first 100 miler, the UTE 100.
Thanks! Yea it was wild! Video will be fun in it Good luck with your first! It's insane!
i’m terrible with drinking water
Hi, can you use a top load washer that has no center agitator? Also for detergent, can I use the regular Tide liquid ?
The efficiency of an alcohol burner is dependent on proper ventilation between the windscreen and the pot. It is also dependent on the distance from the top of the burner to the bottom of the pot. I have found the "sweet spot" to be 1" to 11/4". The Toaks siphon burner is one of the best commercially available burners. The Lixada knockoff is just as good, cheaper and larger than the Toaks. After you recover any excess fuel from the burner, light it to burn off the residual. Sure, a little waste and longer boil times. No need to rush when out in nature. The simplicity and the silence are well worth the trade off. Thanks for sharing. Love all of my OV equipment!
Thank you so much! I think, your video helped me a lot, better way much more than everything on the internet. 🎉
Glad it helped!
Headed out for a solo R2R2R on Monday...just here getting some stoke in beforehand...great work on your effort and excellent video!
Good luck!
I love seeing this I live in Colorado and my and my husbands family hike for hunting and this is the feeling we have lol feeling like you about to get to the top and it just never ends
I will be trying this on the PCT, I start my thru NOBO on may 24th
I need to order 7 pairs of joggers. 1 pair per day for the rest of my life
💙
What an AMAZING experience!!
Yes it was.
Nickname should be Rim Job.
🤔
Does that pack bounce a lot with out a hip belt?
I am not Tayson, but it is specifically designed to prevent bouncing. It has 3 straps in place to prevent that.
I am very interested in the joggers. Hopefully, there will be inseam options. I wear XL with 30” inseam. Thanks. I am aware that could be a production nightmare.
You'll be in luck 😉
👍
🤡🤡🤡
Brooooooooo hurry w tha joggers 😂, I lost some weight and my Outdoor Research joggers don’t fit. I need the OV ones in my life asap. Great video man and to have Jeff Pelletier as a bud to draw knowledge from is friggin amazing. That dude is a savage.
