    Goldeneye controls beat dual analogue hands down for me. Sure its less precise for vertical aiming but precise doesn't automatically equal more fun and the game is built with corridors and corners. Strafing with the c buttons, firing with z will always he more fun than dual analogue.

    8 -> 16 bit was huge. 16 to 32/64 was a big deal but not always for the better... 3D graphics still had to mature... I prefer the transition right after that, when 3D games started to look GOOD and not just 3D for the sake of it.

    Another great video from Retro Bird! Thanks for all you do! I once a long time ago bought a repair kit for my NES that replaced the pin reader. I think it kinda worked. I think I had a bad NES that ate a couple of the middle gold pins in some of my games. Has anyone seen that?

    If you're in the northern midwest, there are a lot of towns that do a city wide cleanup once a year.. Aka free CRT TV day. Also a portable and cheap solution so you can test the TV right there: portable power bank and an older camera with composite output directly on it

    For a while, I thought I wanted a CRT because my friend kept pushing about its importance. Granted, it would be nice to relive those days of playing Mario on my old CRT (green tint optional). Thing is, I don’t have the space for it amongst all the other stuff I’ve collected after. I did have the chance to buy one at a thrift store. I picked it up and then remembered how heavy they are. Then I realized that I don’t play action-heavy games that often anyway. Even then, I have a preference for handhelds. So, what’s the point for me? My friend loves Megaman but I’m more lukewarm to it but I’ll play Dragon Quest III any day of the week. Even Zelda doesn’t require such accuracy. So I’ve made my peace with my lack of a CRT. If I move, though, I may try to hunt one down ahead of time.

    Whats fair is subjective? These games are made for KIDS not 30 year old man-cubs. Im sorry if it burst your bubble because im old too but to pretend its for me is delusional. I must of missed the ads with a group of men football huddling around an nes with their full grown beards out. These NES/SNES were unbalanced and made cheap just like arcade machines back in the day to make you keep putting in quarters. That was the trend in gaming at the time just like developers now for example is to capitalize on the trend of micro-transactions. Do you think people would like Super Mario if it was hard? Do you think people would like Super Mario 3 if they couldn't get past the first level? The reason why its popular is not just because its a plumber with a mustache. Mario games were more balanced and cater to kids demographics and new comers well. Donkey kong 1 and 2 and Sonic is the closes you can get to pushing the difficulty. I remember toughly beating them as a kid also. If you were a kid that beat all the Contras,Castlevania, all the Megaman games back in the day then you were the an exceptional gamer type. Its not an i just want to breeze through the game with no difficulty problem. The NES/SNES was bad because all the games were unbalanced with difficulty. You can still like and praise that era but be honest.

    For some reason my Sony kv-20fs10 (one of the early flat CRT’s) looks great for GameCube but makes my N64 look weirdly pixelated. Anyone know what I’m dealing with? I’d like to get another flat CRT that pairs well with N64 but don’t want to run into the same issue.

    I will never grow tired of Ristar because even if the levels were terrible (they're great) and even if the feel of the game was all won't (it's not) I will always laugh out loud at lil Mr grabby hands reach across the screen and instead of pulling the enemy to himself like you would expect he turns himself into a high-speed projectile and just face-tanks it. It's hilarious every single time, I really wish we had gotten more than just this one Genesis game and the Game Gear one.

    I remember geting mine, it came with three titles, VF2, Virtua Cop 2 and Sega Rally. It was approximately £250, back in 96 I believe. Still to this day it looks beautiful, the pads still feel lovely, and certain games have a classic atmosphere.

    8th to 9th Gen was definitely the smallest generational gap. The main difference between the two is the switch to solid state storage, rather than massive graphical leaps.

  • @mouse_87
    @mouse_87 Před dnem

    Can you get nostalgic for a console you never had? Let me explain: as a child I dreamed of N64 but I couldn't have it due to its high cost. I had to wait 25 years to enjoy the gems of the console catalog, on my notebook with emulator, CRT filters and N64 USB controller. I feel like I implanted memories in my mind (like in the movie "inception") of things I didn't experience as a child but was able to enjoy as an adult. Maybe it's because after the 8 and 16-bit generations I never had another console, I remained a video game "virgin" for 25 years waiting for the long-awaited N64. That's why today the graphics still dazzle me and I prefer them to any modern hyperrealism. They have a unique magic and charm, and I've loved them for so long that I enjoy them more than anything else. Man, I love your channel and your content. Thank you!

  • @stephendalessandri

    For me my elitist tendencies are 100% system setup. I want to run on mostly original hardware, plus get RGB out of my consoles hooked up to a PVM. Thanks Retro Bird for your videos. You've helped me to relax about having the "perfect" setup and focus my energy on playing games (which I wasn't doing much of, ironically).
