Funny enough I kept thinking, “I’ve played contra to death, I don’t remember the trees moving that like that.” Then I read your comment. 😆. So contra is on the list, NES Batman, Mario 3, Super C, gradius 3 and Mike Tyson’s punchout. I play each of these Atleast once a week. And I’ve owned them all for about 30 yrs minus gradius 3(didn’t get that till I was older)

When I was a kid I would go to my father's house a lot during the summer because he had a pool. I remember swimming with the siblings and friends during the day, and playing video games at night. We mostly just had a SNES. Later on the N64 and PS1. Man those are some find memories. Sadly today I rarely talk to my siblings, and it's been probably 2 decades since I heard from those childhood friends. Such is life.

I play to death any game where I can just screw around instead of having a fixed objective. Strategy games with scenario settings are great for this, whether I'm playing by myself in a single square map on Civ, or using an edited character file on Command & Conquer Red Alert with killer Einsteins. Likewise, open world games like the Saints Row series, where there are tons of things to do.

Love to see it. I play fable 2 or 3 at least once a year. That’s my video game comfort food. Especially with the memories that come with it from when I played it in high school with my friends. I’m also going back to the fallout series, again because the tv show was fantastic. There’s one game that does bring guilt and that’s Fortnite. For years I tried to get my brother and spouse into it. One day she finally watched me playing it and wanted to try. Then we bother were addicted and we had good memories playing that together. Since then my brother and kids have also gotten into it. But since I’ve been playing it longer I feel pretty burnt out and don’t feel like playing it as much when they want me to play it with them. That or adult life gets in my way of playing with them, but that’s for my game time in general.

Good review! Hey, I respect your Ghouls 'n Ghosts achievement, RB! I beat Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts legitimately on my SNES years ago, so it definitely is a badge of honor to finish any games in that series!
Yeah, there were less games to choose from as a kid between only owning one system and having a limited game collection, so replaying games never had a stigma attached to it. I do still get friends together from time to time now for pure couch gaming and it is just as fun as ever! Many of my current friends are retro game fans, too, so it adds to the enjoyment!
I have replayed many NES, Genesis, SNES and N64 games multiple times. I'm actually revisiting many of my childhood favorites now on a random whim. I'm also now exploring "new" games I had never got the chance to play as a kid such as Castlevania III on the NES, Aladdin on Genesis, Chrono Trigger on SNES, and Rocket Robot on Wheels on the N64.

  • @ConkerTS
    @ConkerTS Před 28 dny +1

I have some favourite decade(s) old single player video games that I still play over and over again, because I love them and find them so enjoyable. The bad side of course is that you get to know everything about the game and it loses the ability to surprise you, and you then know exactly what is coming up next and how to beat it.
But on the plus side, you start to set yourself challenges in the game, to make the game harder and to challenge yourself further. Challenges such as only using certain weapons, never using certain techniques, not allowing yourself to go to the next game level until you have found every secret and killed every enemy, not using in-game powerups, and so on. Replicability is very important to me.
And yes, to me the best multiplayer experiences I have had are when I am playing against friends in the same room. All of the friendly trash-talking, seeing the frustration on the face of someone when you beat them, seeing their (good natured) gloating when they beat you, etc, it's so mucn better than playing online, especially when playing online against people you don't know. That said, I do like playing multiplayer first person shooters against bots, as long as the bots are capable, and have good definable options.
(Good) bots play the game type you want to play, with the rule set that you choose, they play when you want to play, they don't cheat, they don't spout offensive/racist drivel, they don't log off when they are losing, they don't think it's "funny" to shoot their own team members, they play at the skill level you choose (so they aren't too hard or too easy for you to beat), and they do what you tell them, even boring things like defending the flag or staying where you put them. Sadly, many bots are not configurable, or are too stupid to play some game modes well, and bots overall are becoming less and less common in games, but when done well then they are very valuable additions to the game, and can even be used to pad out a game where only a few humans are playing in large levels or in game modes that need lots of players.
Look at how many online games end up with only a few people still playing them, or even no one playing them any more, so you can no longer play that game on line. This is especially noticeable if you buy a game that's more than a few months (or years) old, and no one is playing the multiplayer, so you'll never get to play it. But if it had bots then it would be no problem.
The other side of the coin is when an older game's multiplayer is populated by very good players, so that as a beginner you just repeatedly get annihilated. If there were bots then you could practice against the bots at whatever skill level you set those bots to play at.
BTW, your videos are great - a little insane, but in the good way!

The way I see it, if you strongly want to replay or continue a certain game, then by all means, do it. But if you're picking a familiar title just out of habit or because you can't decide on something new, then I encourage you to push on through to at least *trying* a new game. There's so much out there and it can feel pretty bad if at the end of the night, you didn't 100% enjoy the time spent with the same-old game.

I'm one of those people who likes completing a good majority of the games I play... but if there's a game I keep going back to, even _after_ 100% completing it...
For me, that's a special game. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Ys 8, Majora's Mask, Psychonauts, Donkey Kong Country, and even recent titles like Lies of P all fall into the special category for me - games I can play to death and still want to revisit no matter what 💙

I think this video nicely sums up my previous-rant, wherein I raged about certain games and their "excessive hatred". It's so much easier for a child - with nothing better to do - to overlook such matters, than for an adult with many things better to try (including other games). I'm honestly not sure I'll ever understand how I once finished "Indiana Jones's Greatest Adventures" on the SNES long ago, even given ample time to burn, but I certainly don't quite have the patience anymore (especially not when many Retro and Modern games are both vastly more worth my time).
However - as for games I've excessively played to death - I'm certainly ran through games like "Super Mario Land", "Megaman X", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II", "Star Fox 64", and "Chrono Trigger" nigh on endlessly.
Finally - for what it's worth - I'm rather impressed you've played through "Ghouls and Ghosts" (Sega Genesis), it's undeniably a game I'd otherwise be afraid to engage with seriously (as in: all the way through).

For me, the one that gets played to death the most from childhood to today would have to be Toejam & Earl. The randomized levels, the music, the art, just childhood in digital form. The slower pace also meant it was the only game I could ever get my grandma to play (she raised me) for any amount of time cause of arthritis in her hands. Who knew a Genesis 3-button would facilitate 30 years of fun.
