Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 11. 2011
- In this episode, the Nerd picks up his sword and shield to go on an adventure into Hyrule. We'll see the Nerd give his honest opinion on Zelda 2. Originally released in Japan in 1987 on the Family Computer Disk System and 1988 on the Nintendo Entertainment System in both America and Europe, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link was the first and only official side scrolling Zelda game in the series. Going on to become known as one of the worst, if not the worst Zelda games amongst fans due to its radical change and difficulty from the previous Zelda game. Zelda 2 was one of the first most highly anticipated games back in the NES days, along with the likes of Super Mario Bros 3. This is Angry Video Game Nerd episode 93

As a young child, I watched my mom beat this game. I loved every moment of it.
Your mom must've been cool
@@whatsthisaboveme6064 Yeah she's definitely awesome.
Wish my mom would play games at least she wouldve know that an online game cannot be stopped
what a lovely memory to have. kudos to your mum
My mom loved to play Dr Mario, i got to see the ending because i never got there :D
Its crazy to think he made all these before ads on CZcams.
IKR
c man that's what we call passion.
That's what you call loss of income.
c man Hell, he made a fair amount of episodes before CZcams existed
He made money from his site tho.
Beating the game by accident at the end was genius. I love coming back to see your old content nerd, there's nothing quite as good on the internet!
I have seen the Nerds catalog at least 15-20 times in completion in the last decade. It's comfort food for my soul.
I wonder if it's a deliberate callback to the time he managed to land in Top Gun with the Power Glove.

Yo, same. My father past away when I was 10. I loved watching him play this game and other NES games as a kid. RIP.
I just turned 33 and decided it was time to finally beat Zelda 2. One of the hardest games I've ever played but now I can proudly say I've finished every mainline Zelda game.
I beat it back in the day but only with the help of the game genie.
@@thomasfrazer8934 You didn't beat the game; you just saw the ending.
That’s like 19 games. Grats.
You want a true challenge? Then play Hagane (Japanese version with only 7 continues, not the easy western version with unlimited continues), and Magician lord (arcade version).
Both games are ridiculously difficult, especially hagane with only 7 continues.
Try Lemmings on NES with no codes. I beat it once as a kid and have never looked back, it was so infuriating. Battletoads was child's play compared to it.

"I am Error" is actually not a legitimate error. It's actually more like a joke; There's a guy you find later in the game named Bagu, which is Japanese for bug. So, Bug and Error.
Also, I know a lot of people already said this, but the temple is not in the shape of a swastika, it's in the shape of a completely different symbol called the Manji. a symbol of peace which the Nazi's ripped off.
The thing in the game is a swastika. The thing the Nazis used is not a swastika but a version which is mirrored and turned by 45 degrees.
@@FrostedAvowals They also likely didn't consider the symbol in a western context too closely. In Japan, and the East they have their own "big bads". Western Culture obviously villifies the nazis more than anyone else. In The East most people don't make that association because the Nazis weren't their problem lol
@@BoydTheMilkmanX Hey, Boyd. You seem to have some degree of knowledge about this. Do you know what symbol or group that would evoke similar feelings as when we Westerners see swastikas and Nazis?

good luck and keep up the motivation! I played and finished it back when I was 8 but no matter how often I tried it nowadays, never beat it again. I guess I'm lacking the patience and time I had as a child (also we didn't have that many games to choose back then and stick with what we had. Now we get tired to easily)

Error actually is there to guide you to the entrance of a hidden location. You are told to go to speak to him later in the game and that is when Error tells you the tip. I has long been mistaken that all he said was "I am Error" but he has more dialogue.

Fun fact: The "I am Error" guy really IS named Error. His name was a pun in Japanese that was lost in translation; much like another character named Bagu (His name was meant to be Bug, as in a computer bug and error). ^u^
if his name was a pun lost in translation then his name isn't suppose to be error
EvanPlayzGames
I know, I realize I badly worded my comment. >_< What I meant to say was that Error and Bagu are named after programming errors, but the way the English version translated Error's sentence as "I am Error" confused people into thinking his dialogue itself was an error. (God I'm bad at explaining myself. >_
totofze47 ahh okay it's fine
totofze47
Assuming you haven't edited it, your comment is plenty clear.
I think the broken English is probably what confused people. "I am Error" sounds exactly like what some programmer would quickly put in to debug the game, as opposed to a final draft of professional writing. (at least... what counts as professional writing for 80s video games)
The look of sheer "what in the shitfuck?! how!??!?" made me laugh for like an hour

5:37 That pretty much defines Zelda II. It's a great game, like almost every Zelda title, but man it is hard to beat.
It puts Dark Souls to shame
with respect, I completely disagree, especially the clip at 5:37 you're referencing here; its only difficult if you don't understand the game. In the sequence shown, the character is under-powered for that moment in the game, and he also doesn't use the spells and buffs available.
people just didn't "get" that this game is an rpg. they tend to not raise their levels optimally, and forget to use spells like extra jump or shield to make the combat/navigation easier.
sure, the game can be hard if you don't know what you're doing or if you don't bother to learn the game.
but its by no means a "difficult" game, especially by NES standards.
@@adamellis8829 The Adventure of Link is definitely a difficult NES game, as it requires very fast reflexes. But it's not one of the most, or _the_ most difficult NES game as others are saying.

Too bad it didn't have a spell to turn the fairy back into Link to break the blocks like the invisible pit in Palace 6. it's like no problem, I'll turn into a fairy to breeze past the hidden pit until *BUZZER* you run into that stack of breakable blocks, so you cannot continue forward. you have to go all the way back and try to get past the pit without the fairy so you can break the blocks at the end of the section.

Without even realizing it until the end.
There's a trick to leveling up MUCH easier. Once you reach enough XP to level something up, skip it. Skip the second and the third. Then it won't level you up until you reach massive points. Beat a boss, then put the gem in the altar. It always gives you enough XP to reach your next possible level, so you can get thousands of XP, and level up a lot of things all at once. Game gets MUCH easier then.
Yea, good luck surviving with any XP at all. Every time I'm close to a level up at all, I die and lose it all.
Id say that you always buy up your exp BEFORE the boss, unless you count the boss money which is around 500, then when bought up all your exp, place the crystal and get all the exp you need for the next level. try to make it a sword level since they are the most expensive ones in the beginning.
Or I could hire someone to hack the game so I get 14 bars of health instead of a measly 7. Seriously, besides this game, the lowest amount of hearts you could max in this series was 14 in Link's Awakening, which wasn't even that hard of a game. Why only 7 bars/hearts in this game?
