Red-y To Talk series: Kate's Story
The following digital story was created as part of the “Red-y to Talk: Discussing Periods to Reduce Health Inequalities” project, a collaboration between the Flow Right PPI group and researchers at the Centre for Reproductive Health, within the Institute for Regeneration and Repair.
The project's aim is to empower women and people who menstruate to share their experiences, reduce menstrual stigma and create a powerful resource to instigate change.
More information about both the project and menstrual health can be found on the HOPE (Healthy Optimal Periods for Everyone) website: www.ed.ac.uk/centre-reproductive-health/hope.

In Vivo Differentiation Potential of Epiblast Stem Cells Revealed by Chimeric Embryo Formation
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed 10 lety
The ability of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to form chimeric mice when injected into pre-implantation blastocysts is considered the 'gold standard' assay that definitively proves that ESCs are equivalent to a normal cell type present in the early embryo. Cell lines derived from embryos that have developed past the blastocyst stage, termed 'Epiblast stem cells', have some properties to both mouse...

Prof Chambers' group at the University of Edinburgh's MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine studies pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cells. These cells possess the paradoxical capacities to divide to produce cells identical to themselves (self-renewal) and to specialise into all the cell types of our bodies. Indeed, it is the simultaneous possession of these two properties that makes ES cells use...

I am a former head and neck cancer patient, I was in excellent health before the cancer also a lifelong non smoker. I had treatment (radiation and chemo) in March of 2022. My radiation oncologist told me that my salivary glands wouldn't be working for about 6mths due to the radiation, well 6mths came and went still no saliva, then he said it might take a year before they heal.Well it has been well over one year now and no sign of the glands ever returning to normal. I saw my ENT doctor last month and after reading on the internet of a procedure called a Sialendoscopy which is used to clear the salivary glands of any blockage, stones etc. I thought maybe this may help. I got an appointment with a head and neck cancer specialist at Tampa General Hospital but apparently the scar tissue that had built up would not allow the device to penetrate any of my glands. I have a tough time eating, survive mostly on high protein shakes, most food taste horrible anyway. I am waitng to hear from my surgeon for other options.

I finished radiation for neck cancer in March. I suffer from very bad dry mouth and throat. Eating is not in the least enjoyable anymore, yet it's a chore. I really believed they would heal over time, but apparently, that's not the case and it's depressing. I don't know what to do because nothing really helps.
