Nice informative video Ken. I was given 2 20 juniors but they might not be salvageable. Is it possible to get a fuel tank to replace a badly rusted one? Where is the best place to get new parts that I may need ? Thanks KEN !!
I typically use WT Kirkman at lanternnet.com for getting my parts but they don’t sell full replacement tanks for the junior unfortunately.
I have a old little wizard lantern. It want stop smoking. Changed wick and fuel 2 times and it still smokes. What do you think the problem is
Have you washed it out with a good degreaser? Especially up inside the chimney there could be some old soot from burning something odd from the previous owner.
Will do
That done it. Works good now. Thanks alot
@@ronaldmason8010 glad I could help 👍
Can can you show me how to repair the bottom of the fuel tank on my ad lake lantern it is rusted out. How would you repair it?
Hi This is a tough call without actually seeing how bad it is it could be a candidate for several repair methods or possibly a replacement if it is too bad. Could you send some photos of it to me at kenslanterns2020@gmail.com and then I can possibly recommend something that would help you.
The magnet is a great solution. Happy Father’s Day
Thank you 🙏
I like the magnet idea. Patent it before Dietz starts churning them out in China.
Great idea Thanks 🙏
That's an old drum brake spoon , for adjusting the Spreader wheel on drum brakes through the slot in the backing plate
In the 70s I worked in an American car only garage. A long time regular customer bought a Toyota and the owner agreed to service it but we sent him out to find a metric brake spoon before we could adjust his brakes. It turned into a 3 hour adventure, first parts store sent him to another place but called ahead to keep the joke going. It snowballed. Poor Dale.
Yes thank you now I remember that is what the gentleman told me when I bought it 👍
Happy Father’s Day! Magnet idea was awesome! 😃👍
Thank you 🙏

Thanks so much 👍
Yup that is a nice looking Hungarian made lantern you have there Ken! 🙂🙂 Great idea of using those Neodymium miniature magnets to secure the shield on your other lantern! 👍 Yup gives me an idea to fabricate a little reflector shield for one of my lanterns!👍👍 Yes getting ready for camp & yup a few lanterns to bring to camp & deciding on which lantern or lanterns to bring!🙂🙂
Sounds great and enjoy your camping trip 👍
@@lotsatrains Thank you Ken! 👍 Yup can’t wait to be at camp & will enjoy some rest & relaxation too! Then it’s lantern time!🙂🏕
good idea using the small neo magnet to mount the reflector clever thinking. thank you for the kind fathers day wishes and a very happy fathers day to you too. thanks for posting today.
Thanks so much 👍
That's a perfect tool ! Why didn't I think of that? Lol. The magnet ideal was good too, Thanks Ken
Thanks Steve 👍
Ive fashioned before, an aluminum pie pan just below the crown of my lanterns to help reflect more light shinning down when i string them way up high under a tall tree branch.
Sounds great I will have to try that and will give me an excuse to seek out a delicious pie also 😋
I can get this railroad lantern for $50. Do you think it's worth it I'm trying to send a picture in the text. I can't quite figure it out. I'm working on it
Send it to my email kenslanterns2020@gmail.com
Michael from Australia, I have a number of dietz, blizzard ,,d-lite and so on, both cold flow.
Great lanterns 👍
lanora hot flow as apposed to lanora junior which is a cold flow. not many people know the difference between hot and cold flow lanterns. I'm Michael from Australia and I have both lanterns in my collection.
I would love to get a Lanora junior for my collection one day but they are very rare here in the USA but love my Lanora hot blast 👍
Hi Ken, nice video as usual ! Maybe I have a turkish tubular lantern in my collection lantern. It has an inscription "Metanol" on it. Is it turkish, or it's made somewhere in eastern europe? Not 100% sure. About yours lantern, all I can say is LE VENT on france language means : the wind. Just a thought, maybe you'll find it interesting. Anyway, best regards from Croatia! le vent = the wind
Thank you so much and now it makes sense because it is very similar to my other French lantern 👍
Have you ever tried soaking rusty stuff in vinegar? I recently threw two seriously rusted and locked up corn shellers in a storage tote that had vinegar/water drained from a gas tank clean out job in it. I forgot about them being in there for a couple of weeks and when I pulled them out they were clean, shiny and unstuck. Working on an Embury #25 truck light right now myself. Hoping to find a 225 to go with it.
Yes I do use vinegar on occasion but it tends to make lanterns flash rust very fast afterwards and now mostly use Rustoleum rust dissolve gel because it has something in it that prevents the flash rust.
@@lotsatrains Neutralize the acidic vinegar with baking soda/hot water and promptly place in a preheated oven to dry. Cool off and prime or oil. Has worked well for me and it's inexpensive.
@@paulhare662 sounds good 👍
I have similar model
Nice 👍
Thanks for sharing! You do have allot of lanterns. I love it.
Yes probably too many as my wife always has said 😂
I got a lantern project for you Ken lol, im not sure how to fix it.
Send me an Email at kenslanterns2020@gmail.com and give me the details
Enjoyable video, thanks! Do you solder up the pin holes? I'll have to do some searching of your videos to see if you might have explained/shown how this is done. Thank you.
I have used solder in the past but now pretty much find it easier to put a tube of sealall fuel tank sealer in the fount and wait a couple days and usually works fantastic and also prevents future rusting problems other than just attacking one hole at a time with solder.
@@lotsatrains I've used Seal All for years in weeping founts. It's great stuff and super easy to use.
@@lotsatrains I'll tuck that into my memory bank for future use, thanks! Looking forward to your next video. ATB, Bill
@@Yellow.Dog. Thanks so much Bill 🙏
I hate the way the digital camera does lantern flames and airplane props. It makes it look like you had a runaway flame, I can't even get a good still shot of mine without the digital technology making it look brighter than it actually is.
Very true and I posted a picture on Facebook some time ago of a newly acquired hot blast lantern and I didn’t realize this and got so many comments that I was burning it way too high and questioned about how did you get the flame up so high without smoking it all up and had to respond to all that it was just a weird illusion from the camera 😂
Thanks Ken, great save with those two lanterns, best wishes from Ireland.
Thank you 🙏 and so great to hear from you 👍
Three things I love on lanterns, reflectors, lenses and cages! 😃👍🇺🇸
Yes a nice restoration on the Levent OZ lantern & plus the Liberty lantern ever turned out awesome there Ken!🙂👍 Yup in a few weeks time & bringing a few lanterns to camp to light up on the deck there & hopefully make a little video, if I don’t forget!🙂🙂 Yup the wife there won’t notice that her green metal plant retaining thingie kinda went missing, to fix the guard wire on the Liberty lantern! Lol🙂 Yup it’s lantern time!👍👍
Yes I hope she doesn’t notice it missing 😂 Thank you Jeff 👍
@@lotsatrains You are welcome Ken!🙂🙂 Yup those garden plant holders has the right size diameter wire for fixing lanterns & makes great lantern bails too!👍👍
You have been working hard on your lanterns and they both look excellent. I wonder if one o the cold air tubes is partially blocked and if that is part of what is up with your leaning lame? Take care. Am looking forward to your next video.
Great thought about the air tubes I will clean them out and see thanks so much 👍
Good tip.

Yes could be 👍
Great job Brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise now i know what to do with mine 😀 thank you
Thank you 🙏
Nice clean up Ken. The how to videos are really helpful...
Thanks so much 👍
Ken- That came out fantastic! Looks awesome now…. 😃👍
Thanks and now I actually think it’s too nice to leave outside after all 😂
Turned out really well. It’s in very good condition considering it’s age. The Dietz are rare enough in Ireland but I managed to get a couple. I think the collector market is growing as it’s getting harder to find them.
Very true I agree and also noticed that prices have gone up considerably on lanterns also but I guess that is what makes the ones that we have more special and dear to our hearts 👍
That came out really nice! A noob here. What kind of seal does the tank cap have? When cleaning mine up I noticed that there is no tank cap seal and the cap doesn't tighten very well. Thanks, Bill
It’s actually just a piece of cork gasket on the underside of the cap and a lot of times they just rot or fall out maybe that’s what happened to the one that you have but you could try putting a small O ring in with some silicone sealer to hold it but would have to investigate getting the right size because it would have to be a pretty small thin one.
@@lotsatrains Thanks a bunch for the reply. I may have some automotive gasket material that I could use. Another fun experiment to try. Thanks again, Bill
@@Yellow.Dog. yes that sounds like a great choice also 👍
Great stuff Ken. Wow that cleaned up sweet! Good idea using the ac fan.
Thanks 👍 it’s a pretty good trick for drying them.
I recenty cleaned an Embury Air Pilot #1 that had most of it's paint, some rust and some carbon deposits. I used Sea Foam cleaner/lubricant spray. Mostly because it was the first can I found in the garage. It did a wonderful job. Soak it down and leave it set on a shop rag for a day, wipe it down with the soggy rag later.
Sounds like it did a great job 👍
What's the brightest lantern I can buy? Brand and model
It’s hard to be specific about brightness because most lanterns have kind of their own personality but if you get hold of an old rayo or Pritchard strong cold blast number 2 sized lantern that takes a 1 inch wide wick it’s going to pump out some awesome light 👍
Mine is just like that, but the bail on top is thicker wire and round, without the indented part in the middle. My grandfather told me it was a very old lamp in 1964, been in regular use over the decades, had to patch up fuel leaks with JB Weld.
Great history to that lantern thanks for sharing and enjoy it 👍
I need to get me some of that super clean, is it like simple green? Your Lantern turned out very nice Ken !
I think it’s quite stronger than simple green but I definitely like it 👍
@@lotsatrains thanks Ken ! I'm going to look for some
@@steveyoung9951 I got it at my local Lowes recently and do believe Wal Mart carries it also

Very nice, I have a D- lite with a red globe and down here in Delaware they are around $60/$80+ in the junk shops , prices have gotten a bit ridiculous lately, guess I need to look up north
Yes prices definitely have gone up but sometimes at flea markets or yard sales you can still get a bargain 👍
I would not take $200 for mine. I love it because it has taken good care of me over the years, was my porch light for 2 decades. Kerosene still cheaper than incandescent bulbs. Not as new looking as this one.
