The Roman Emperors Tier List
Every Roman emperor (up to 476) ranked in a tier list. I made a video like this three years ago, but it wasn't good so I decided to remake it.

    He should’ve let Eugenius be western emperor. Maybe he could’ve made a deal with him for Honorius to succeed him when he came of age but installing Honorius as western Roman Emperor at the age of 11 was just stupid. Bad enough Arcadius sucked as much as he did, not content with that, he had to install another inept emperor on the other side of the empire pretty much guaranteeing that a lot of his good work would be undone.

    First off, really good video. Didn't finish it yet but can't wait to after work. 'Preciate your style, sourcing, etc. I wouldn't have noticed the BCE if you didn't point it out in the description. I know you said you don't care, but I'm curious from a historian's perspective why use it? I've never heard a compelling argument, and it's curious to me. Like, if it's about having a non-biased language use, that doesn't make sense because all language is biased. Should we stop saying the month August because it's named after Augustus? Christmas is celebrated even by atheists. And most ironically to me is that BCE and CE still use the exact same date system, just kinda lie about what the reason for distinction is. Not offended, and hope I didn't offend, but just seems like a plain bad convention.

      The Gregorian Calendar - arguably the most precise calendar in history - was developed by the Catholic Church. CE & BCE doesn't respect the work of the institution that developed this calender. It's a faux-secular attempt to neutralise the history of the calendar for worldwide use. Most people don't care because there's little care for changing it outside atheist-centric communities.

    The claim that Rome fell because of moral decadence is beyond ridiculous. Orgies and such things happened when Rome was on the peak of its power. The crumbling empire was a Christian state which in several aspects looked more medieval than antique.

  • @jensphiliphohmann1876

    I disagree on Africa only being poor because of colonialism and neocolonial extraction. Of course, it exists. And it's let happen by corrupt leaders.

  • @jensphiliphohmann1876

    16:00 'Decline of the West' is not the most accurate translation for 'Untergang des Abendlandes'. Of course, 'Abendland' means 'West' because the West is where the Sun sets but these are still slightly different concepts. 'The West' seems to refer to industrialized countries with representative democracy and market economy whereas 'Abendland' ('Occident') refers more to cultural aspects and traditions such as Christian religion, at least as I understand it. I'd refer to medieval and early modern France as part of the Occident but not so much as a Western country in the modem sense.

    Why you do (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus) dirty like that. He was undefeated in the Parthian War, Marcomannic Wars & Battle on the Frozen Danube. Marcus was undefeated unlike Constantine & Belisarius or 1/3 of the general you put above him. Mind Marcus in Marcomannic Wars lead to status que so a stalemate. Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was likely the oddest general that I can think of his was a 'philosopher king' turned General when no one was about to do the job! Belisarius lost the battle of Thannuris, Mindouos & the Osrogoths Sack of Rome in (546) under his watch unable to do anything with lastly Battle of Callinicum was a stalemate same as the Lazic War. You ranked Constantine & Belisarius to high as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus is high B or low A but he had a short strange career as a general. An S tier philosopher mind.

    • @arnijulian6241
      @arnijulian6241 Před 21 dnem

      I wish you had an ( ! ) tier as that is were Marcus Aurelius Antoninus belongs as he can't really be compared neatly to other generals as he wasn't really a true general but a stoic that took up the mantle for service to the state when no one else would who was suitable. Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was the best in a time of mediocrity for Rome but he got the job done which should not be scoffed at.

Also a more reasonable interpretation is the sea peoples are the Germanic invasions and the Dorians the later Vikings; which would've been apparent to anything with a basic understanding of history; try not looking so hard to break the narrative when it does legit break elsewhere.
