Changing a Moped Tire
Let's change a moped tire! This is the rear tire of my Honda Hobbit Moped.
I like to use this metal valve cover that comes with some moped tubes. I remove the valve so all the air can be pushed out of the tube.
Then I fold and roll the tube until all or most of the air is out of the tube. With it rolled up, install the valve again.
This should keep the tube as flat as possible. Making it easier to insert the tube and from pinching the tube.
Next insert the valve stem and put the valve screw on a few threads. This allows for the tube to move but not have the valve sink into the tire during installation.
Dish soap helps as a lubricant for the tire to slide onto the rim. Apply some around the rim.
Then we have to get half of the tire mounted onto the rim. Pass the tire over the tube and start pressing half of the tire onto the rim. You want to make sure the tube is inside the tire and that it is not being pinched. Use a tire spoon to help get the tire seated over the rim.
Next, start inserting the tube inside the tire. make sure the tube is laying flat along the tire and not twisting. It's best for the tube to sit inside the tire and not on the rim.
Apply some more dish soap to the tire for lubrication.
Then starting from the valve stem, begin to press the tire onto the rim. Press as far as you can by hand. Once reached as far as possible pressing in by hand. Use a tire spoon at one end to keep the tire from backing off the rim. With the other tire spoon and my hand, I work the rest of the tire onto the rim. Careful not to insert the spoon too far and damage the tube.
Tighten the valve nut and fill with air. The amount of air needed should be printed on the tires somewhere. Most seem to require 35 pounds of tire pressure. If the tire hasn't seated, I like to let the air out. Then add more dish soap and over inflate the tire by 5 pounds. This extra air pressure with the lubrication from the soap helps sometimes. After that I air down to the correct tire pressure.

Changing Brake Pads Tomos Moped
zhlédnutí 93Před 3 měsíci
A quick video here for anyone curious on how to go about changing the brake pads on their tomos mopeds. I skipped the process for removing the wheel. If you would like to see how that's done, let me know in the comments, and I can make a video on that.
Puch Magnum Spoke Wheel Cleaning
zhlédnutí 89Před 3 měsíci
In this video, I'll show how I clean up these crusty spoke wheels and restore some shine to them. Tools I use is a cordless drill. A wire wheel bit in two different sizes. When I'm done removing the crust and rust with the wire brushes, I use some polish on the chrome. This doesn't make the wheels shine like new, but it's a much better improvement over a rusty look. In total, it took about 15 m...
Puch Magnum paint removal

Going back in my archive and sharing anything I have about one of my most popular builds. This is a short one of me stripping the paint off the gas tank of a Puch Magnum. I like to use aircraft paint stripper. I apply it with a brush. There is a spray version as well, but I've had better luck brushing it on. This stuff is strong and will irritate your skin. Make sure to wear some protective gea...

I picked up this Free Spirit moped a few years back. I had started to restore it but didn't finish. I had a friend who wanted to trade some concert tickets for a Puch moped. This was the only bike I had completed at the time. It was in rough shape but at least complete. Fast forward a year or so, another friend of mine wanted another moped built for his wife. I built a white Lazer/General for h...
Safari Turbo Finale | Walk around of the moped
zhlédnutí 34Před 3 měsíci
Mission accomplished! Got the Safari Turbo running. The tires still hold air, and the gas tank is really clean. The bike was missing a rear shock, I replaced both shocks with a good set from a moby. The headlight works, and the controls to turn it on and off. The kill switch worked, too. I'm not sure why the horn didn't work. I might look into that. It is still missing a tail light, but the wir...

LED Headlight Review on Tomos Moped
zhlédnutí 227Před 4 měsíci
A quick review that I hope helps to show how bright the LED light is on a Tomos Moped. I haven't tested this on a 6v moped system yet. I knew an a35 and a55 Tomos engine have 12V systems. With a stock harness, it should have regulator installed also. This should help keep the LED headlight from burning out. The headlight fits perfect into a CEV style headlight bucket. Here is a link to the head...

Hitch Moped Carrier

No truck, no problem. In this short video, come with me as I pick up a moped using my Ford Bronco. The engine on my pickup truck no longer works. This was an opportunity for me to get a new Bronco. Before I had a pickup truck, I used to haul my mopeds like this on the back of my Mazda CX-9. So, I wasn't too worried about losing my pickup bed. Sir i needed the front variator of this bike wer can i find it.. im from india if possible can u giv me the buy link for this front variator pls
I'm not sure where you would find it in India.
How well does it perform? Is it for 50cc
It's a good pipe, yes it's on a 50cc kit.
I have one all orig every thing works.
Does it have the under seat storage box, too? It's a cool bike it feels comfortable to ride. I'm not sure about a long ride, I didn't get to take it on a long ride.
Damn It Boi, looks really good. Coat of clear and keep that Patina
I brought this time from lowriding. works good all all metal chrome.
Hey Rich how have these pads been holding up and have you found an alternative to the glue or heard of an alternative to the glue? I've heard of people using JB weld Marine epoxy.
Pads have been holding up as far as I know. I imagine there are some cement style glues that would also work. The Gorilla glue is working for me.
@@MopedRich Okay well thank you for your quick reply. I love your channel and I also watch Travis tutorials moped problems and I was referred to this video from CornPed
@@allenpuckett6878 Those guys are all awesome and have a lot of knowledge. I'm glad I was able to help if I did. Thanks for the kind words. Good luck!
does this tomos have the same headlight as a standard a35? (so i know if it fits in my housing)
It does not, the standard is a square headlight. I used a CEV style headlight bucket and ring for this.
Get a Diode and a Step up/down (buck-boost) converter, and eleminate that flicker. The flicker isnt good for the Leds, you give em AC, and it needs DC
I heard that as well. The tomos has a rectifier that I believe converts AC to DC. The flicker didn't happen in person, or at least can't be noticed by the eye. The campera at 30 fps picks up the flicker.
@@MopedRich Oh, than just buy a 35-50V 10000uF capacitor, and that should fix your little flickers.
Onyx light?
I believe it's the same style light. Works great with a tomos 12v system.
Thanks
Trubo?🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha typing too fast 🤣
Fixed! Ty
I need one to match my truck
@jcglasshouse75 I got you on the next one. I'll get it running for you, and you can make it look good.
That thing is so cool, i got a vespa moped and its so close to running im so exited
Did you get it running?
@@MopedRich i did only to find the engine is knocking and i thougbt well f it ill rebuild it
@edward6488 awe man, a rebuild isn't too difficult. It should run nice after that.
Hi, what product did you use to clean out the carbu?
I used carb cleaner, some wire, and a toothbrush.
What kind of intake and carb did you use?
19mm phbg intake and a phbg 19mm clone race style carb.
Hello Rich, I'm building a 1978 Vespa Grande and I am looking for some parts like the 3 covers, snowflake wheels, and some small parts. I was wondering if you had any Grande parts or if you can give me some leads to where i can find them. Thank you. Keep up the good work and please make more Vespa moped videos
I would suggest to join the vespa moped facebook group page. it will be a great resource for help and finding missing parts.
Thank you sir!
if I can directly ask for the thickness of the cork sheet, at least I'll look for it on other sites, thank you very much
Rubberized cork gasket at 3/32 thickness
How can I find the cork material he uses for the repair, because I can't find it on Italian amazon
You might have to try an auto parts store. I should have the thickness in the description or on my blog.
Very nice!
Whats the case?
Stock vespa case, 30 mph version
Where did you get your parts from, to repair gears
There should be links in the description on part 1 for the cork gasket materials and glue. I also have written instructions for this on mopedrich.com
What kind of grease did you use with the bearings? I have to do this exact job next week and am gathering materials.
Any bearing grease should work, here is one from Amazon I would try amzn.to/3xtfy54
New to working on mopeds. So I’m slightly confused on what you did there. Did you just grind up that plate, which is the restrictor to get more speed?
The brass bushing in between is a restrictor, if you grind it down it can variate more and allow for more top speed.
@@MopedRich what did you use to grind it up just curious? More curious how much To grind it down. Great video and song choice btw
@@jeffreyheath3382 thanks for the kind words. I used an angle grinder with a grinding disc. I grided the brass down till it was flush with the cheeks of the variator.

I have the same issue and im going nuts trying to figure out why- i replaced the gasket but nothing chanced. im so glad ive found your video_ Thanks a bundle :-)
Glad it helped, it can get messy for sure.
How's she sound?
It's loud like a two-stroke dirt bike or chain saw.
what is the height of the gasket material used? 2mm?
I'm not 100% sure, I think it might be 2mm. I linked to the material I used above in the description.
Looks awesome, wish I could find a mint one like that around here.
This one was not mint, I had to restore it. Call around to the various moped shops, a lot of them will ship it to you.
Cool puch man! Looking to buy one to ride locally in town 😎
Which town? this was a nice one to build, didn't take me as long, it was nice to have all the parts I needed on hand. It's in a new home in NJ I think.
what is the black thing over the tire that looks like a seat is that like a luggage rack
It's an additional rack, but it's made from plastic and not very strong. It could hold something light.
oh look a wild lester!
hei man i have a vespa ciao mix and it just wont start it just starts a bit and closes and i dont know what to do(not very good at english)
test for air leaks, clean the carburetor or replace the carburetor with a new one. Also, try a new NGKB6HS spark plug just to make sure.
I did it and my clutch still sliding ... whats the problem you think?
is it the 1st, 2nd, or both slipping? If it's 1st, then it might be the bearings behind the kick start cog. I would have to find a picture of it. Had this happen to the bike I was working on when I made this video. I thought it was the clutches and after re-ligning them in these videos, it still slipped. I kept tinkering with it then I found out it was those bearings that were not catching and making the 1st gear engage, the bike would only engage on 2nd gear. This would make the take-off extremely slow until that 2nd gear hit.
If you are using original clutch pads in a kitted bike odds are they will be eaten out easily, my 1st gear was powerfull until i put a 70cc and now 1st slips, bought new cork pads, still havent installed em tho
I did it and its changed nothing... the clutch still slide. What’s the problem you think?
did you fix the issue? was it the spring?
Tnx bro u helped me out alot
Your welcome I'm happy it helped.
Can you show how to install disk brakes on that moped? Stock brakes are trash
When I get my hands on the parts for disk setup i will.
ONYX is the next one. I got the Discovery E bike, runs great, but ONYX is the only choice next time.
There are a few good choices out, have you seen the Moto from @moped problems czcams.com/users/MopedProblemsvideos I'm a fan of the mid-drive engine vs hub wheel.
did you check out the monday moterbike 100 mile range 45.mph stuck on that or this beast onyx both look good tho
@@kennethwilliams1416 I like the mid-drive option the monday motorbike has. It also comes with moped mag wheels not only spokes. I have not had the chance to test ride the Monday but do hear good things about it from other moped friends who have ridden it.
@@kennethwilliams1416 No, I gotta check it out. Thanks
Was that a restrictor in there
The brass bushing in between is a restrictor, if you grind it down it can variate more and allow for more top speed.
Hey man! Hi mate, could you tell me what size is the distance standoff nut needed to fix the front mount to the head stud? Is it M7 30mm?
not sure, were you able to find the correct size?
Do the pedals work or is it just for show
Both lol no pedal assist, better off using throttle only and pedaling when you see a cop lol
It is heavy to pedal without the motor assist, not a good choice to use as a bike.
Moped Rich how do you install springs on tomos clutches?
according to the Tomos manual, you insert the spring clip area first then pry the rest of the spring on. In the image on the manual, they are using a vice to hold the clutch while they use both hands to get the spring on.
@@MopedRichi have tried to fit a yellow spring But ruined it like that guess u need the tool to get tighter springs on
@@rccl4487 Ill try to get my hands on a clutch and see if i can figure out a trick, but it does make sense the performance spring is going to be a bit harder to get on there.
