    How do you feel about the 4 or 5 vanes? He discussed helical a bit but I didn’t see much if any in the video. Also would you use 3 or 4” vanes as apprised to the small ones? Your preference and why?

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter Před 2 dny

      So, I ended up going with the 4 vanes. One of the pros with 4 is not having to look down when nocking your arrow. You also have more adjustment points for nock tuning if you need to do that. Dale says in the video he only uses a 5 vane configuration because it looks cool, haha. With that said, there are even more nock tuning adjustment points with 5 vanes. With these arrows and their process I haven't had to nock tune anything though. The name of the game, in my personal opinion, is results. In all honesty, and I'm being sincere here, I don't care if my vanes are 3 inches, 4 inches, or smaller. What matters is the impact point with a fixed blade broadhead downrange.

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter Před 3 dny

      Yes, those arrows with field tips are only for practice and then we also made arrows with broadheads, which will be only for hunting with minimal practice just to confirm flight. I did this off camera and confirmed that the broadheads were flying true. Using hot melt, though, you could reheat the field tips back up, pull them out, and re-install. broadheads.

    If any of you are on the fence about buying the Ibex release like I was…do it. I’m a new bow hunter from Louisiana that has had multiple shoulder surgeries causing me to be really late to the game. At the end of last season I got a bow and have been so determined to get confident enough to make ethical shots next season. It’s been a grind, let me tell you. I THOUGHT I was getting surprised shots with my thumb button…but when I got the Ibex my groups almost instantly shrunk. After shooting it for about a week straight, I switched over to my Carter Too Simple for one group and I was touching arrows. It has been that way time after time. I’ve never been this consistent with any release but now I’m consistent with two! I’m still not sure if I’ll hunt with the Ibex yet, but even if I don’t, it’s what will be in my hand in the offseason year after year. It’s pricey, but man…it’s been worth every penny for me.

    Tedious work indeed in getting all of those arrows perfect. I checked on the website and saw those new glue in heads, but was bummed that they were for .166 arrows only and wouldn’t work with my Victory Rip TKO Gamer 300s that are 204. I definitely want to change out my front end components and go away from the outserts that they give you. 😎🏹🦌

  • @theWoodrow82
    @theWoodrow82 Před 5 dny

    I really like what Dale is offering with Evolution. I’ve been running the victory RIP TKO arrows for several years now and really like them. I run HIT inserts with collars and hot melt everything in. I’ve had great luck with that. I’d definitely buy a 204 glue system if that ever came to fruition but I kind of do that now with the way I do it. Good stuff. I really like your content.

    • @theWoodrow82
      @theWoodrow82 Před 5 dny

      @@TheWVgoodguy22 I just take all my HIT inserts and screw them flush to my broadhead of choice, put the collar on the arrows then hot melt everything in. It’s the same purpose really. I do field points the same way on certain arrows. I am not taking away what Dale is doing at all. What he’s doing for the 166 is hands down the best system. But if you’re a guy that likes the 204 diameter arrows this way can’t be beat in my opinion.

If you are v shaped with big shoulders and small hips you gonna want everything ripped up high so it feels like its all on your shoulders pushingdown like a squat bar.. If it drops down it feels like its underneath your centre of gravity and pushing your hips forward. People with buts are better carrying it low and boxy square people in the middle.

    My #1 most used and versatile piece of gear might be helpful to the other side sleepers out there. I sleep on a Klymit static V pad but I carry a cut in half Thermarest Z-Lite pad. The accordion fold up style. Basically it is a little longer than my shoulders to hips. At night I put it under my sleeping pad. It adds extra R value and extra padding where it's most needed for side sleepers. Hips and shoulders. Adds puncture resistance as well. During the day I use it as a camp seat, glassing pad, wind break for my cook stove, shooting pad/mat or propping up the rear butt stock as you can unfold it to different heights. When bow hunting I strap it to the bottom of my pack. When my bow is mounted on the back of the pack it gives me a lot of cushion when I go to take off the pack and set it down and protect the bottom cam of my bow. Without a doubt the most versatile piece of gear I bring on every hunt.

    I’m right in the middle of this just went from the kuiu icon pro7200 pack with a heavy oversized sleep system I switched to the exo k4 5k which I’m absolutely in love with I spent weeks researching and comparing packs it was down to that and the new kifaru ark with absaroka bag. The exo fits what I’m looking for in a pack it’s very simple,clean, and laid out almost exactly how I would design a bag. After all that I realized space was limited compared to the 7200 I went to sportsmen’s and bought a eureka one man tent on sale for $77 around 3 lbs packs pretty small, went with a light Nemo 15 degree bag. Now I’m able to fit my gear in the smaller bag which I really like. I’m forcing myself to get smaller and lighter which might cost more but to me is worth it my pack is now running around 40lbs compared to the 50+ I was running before I will also mention this EXO Carry’s the weight much better.

    I'm pretty ultralight but I would say I'm more minimalist than ultralight. I use an old icon pro 5200. Which I believe is actually the same as what they call their 6000 now. 5200 main compartment 800 lid. But either way for 7 days I can keep the bag fully compressed without "blowing out" the extra space in the top. For 10 days I just bring an extra cannister of fuel and then extra gallon zip of food per day which typically will make me have to blow out the top of the bag a little bit. I've never done an 2 week expedition hunt but I imagine that what I would do is run half of the food in between the load shelf. Maybe I would pack an extra pair or 2 of socks and underwear but for the most part my clothing stays the same. Kinda even regardless of the Temps. I tend to bring a layering system that works well from 20 degrees to 80 degrees regardless of the hunt. Mainly bc I'm hunting sept-novemeber so I normally don't see any swings outside of that

    • @DialedinHunter

I like having a little extra room and makes things easier packing meat out. I've never been one that has cared much to have a "day pack mode" style pack after I hike in.

    The thing that’s made the most difference for me is to not leave any dead space in the pack wasted/unused. I hunt around a plethora of good water sources. So I’ll use my Nalgene bottle to pack anything and everything I can fit in it on the initial hike in to setup a base camp. The other thing I do, is I don’t use any of the stuff sacks that came with any of my gear. Sleeping bag just gets packed into my backpack. It helps the sleeping bag conform to the inside of my backpack and actually takes up less real estate in my pack. Same goes for any bulkier items. Most packs have a good compression strap system. So if you just load your pack as if it were a “stuff sack/compression sack” and then reef on all the external compression straps once it’s fully loaded, you can actually go out for a relatively long hunt and do it with a relatively small pack. MR Metcalf is my be all end all pack. From 1-2 day scouting trips to 7-10 day hunts and packing a Muley out at the end. Good Video. I enjoy getting to hear other hunters methods they utilize. When we stop learning and taking in information we lose the ability to grow.

      So awesome! Thanks for chiming in. I too pack my sleeping bag/quilt loose in my pack. Great tip on the Nalgene bottle too!

    As archery season approaches I do some near dark shooting because for me the evening light changes somehow. I, and others that come out to my home range, notice they have more left or right hits like 2” at 30-35 yards. This is in the last 20? of light enough like you’re actually hunting and can see the 3-d deer. It’s a weird thing. Whatever is occurring causes me to really focus hard on that target spot to hit it. And like you now im shooting late because the temperature is slightly lower.👍👍

      Interesting about the left/right hits! As for the temp, I'll take every degree cooler I can get this time of year in AZ, hahaha.

    The load lifters can be pulled closer to the body, especially on steeper paths, to shift the weight more towards the center of the body, providing better balance and stability.

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter Před 17 dny

      Great tip. Definitely a fine balance. If you pull too hard, you'll put too much pressure on your chest. I play with them as I hike and adjust where needed.

    I’m curious, what’s the coldest temps where that layering system on top (plus some puffy pants on bottom) would keep you warm while glassing for a few hours? Thanks!

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter Před 20 dny

      I've had this particular layering system on down into the 20's without puffy pants. Puffy pants would have been awesome there, but it wasn't a deal breaker with some base layer bottoms on. You could use this though as a template. If the hunt is going to be colder, then I would swap out the puffy jacket for a thicker one or add a smaller insulation piece underneath it.

    It's truly amazing what a difference this can make on a hike. When I first started, I had bruised shoulders the next day from not having the straps done right. Wasn't until I hiked with a buddy and they pointed it out to me that I had it all wrong. all the weight was on my shoulders.
