    There was a mistake in your discussion of wanted to clarify.. you said “if” you get a coues it will be a light pack out. You clearly should have said “when”. lol. Good luck Josh. Congratulations on Sitka gear hook up also. Your content is the only one I watch every episode for. Being an AZ bow hunter that is fairly new it has helped me a ton

      Haha! Hey, thanks man. Appreciate that. Stoked to try out the Sitka gear too. Best of luck out there!

    Love the mountain evo jacket. Best purchase I ever made. Used it as my main jacket on a 10 day archery sheep hunting in northern Canada. Absolute bring for me from now on. Got me through blizzards, rain, sun, and wind!

    One thing I do take is a set of five Alaska quarter bags. I like to hang the meat quarters on bone overnight before boning out the meat for the trip out of the backcountry. Good luck on your hunt!

      Good stuff Roy. Always nice letting it hang for a bit beforehand. Thanks!

    Thanks for covering water plan. I’m also in AZ and have more concern over how much to bring in and how to adequately prepare for refilling water through the trip. Seeing the 6L bag is reinforcing where my heads at. I appreciate your guidance!

      Glad the water bit was useful. Us Arizona folks always need a water plan!

    Excellent overview of your gear loadout for one of your favorite hunts of the year. I definitely wouldn’t mind adding some to my kit before going on my first western hunt hopefully 🤞🏻 next fall. My cousin has that new Vortex backcountry spotter and took it to Idaho for a mule deer 🦌 hunt. He likes it but wishes he got the angled instead.
    In the last year you have switched from home state PSE to Prime and now from First Lite to Sitka (the Mathew’s of technical hunting clothing). I know why on your bow choice and there’s nothing wrong with switching brands and trying something new out. We are all curious creatures and want to know more and develop our own opinion based on experiences vs here say from others. Especially in your line of work as a writer ✍️ and content creator.
    I have heard great early reviews on the Intercept pant and the Ambient hoody is a staple in every Sitka wearers’ arsenal.
    Good luck 🍀 out there once again Joshua chasing those grey ghosts 😃🏹🦌🏜️

    I keep saying im doing a pack trip some day. I have purchased almost everything I need just need to do it! It will be solo Im guessing because I can't seem to convince anyone to do it with me. LoL Saw you posted this video and couldn't wait to watch it. Thank you for the info you post love all your videos.
    Only question I have is what is the total weight you shoot for on your pack? I know it will change depending on the hunt but for a hunt like this what kind of weight you looking at? Thanks for the videos and post online.

      Hey, man! Thanks for watching and for the support. That is AWESOME that you've got all the gear to do a backpack hunt. For a hunt like this, I'm guessing I'll be around 45-50 pounds. That's with food and everything.

    I’m a sweater and tend to stink when hiking around a lot hunting. How are you combatting those types of things? I’d be worried only taking one pair of pants socks and one shirt on a multi day hunt, especially archery getting in close quarters. What are your thoughts/recommendations there as far as scent and stuff? Thanks for the great video!

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Great question Dan. We all stink and sweat, haha. That next to skin piece is merino wool, which is by nature antimicrobial. Basically, the fine fibers are so fine that bacteria has a harder time attaching itself. This keeps the funk down on the garment. You'll still stink of course, but the shirt will be light years better in smell. If you're referring to scent in terms of hunting, I don't worry a lick about masking it. I more worry about the wind. Hunt the wind and you'll be fine. Underwear are also merino. Sometimes I take one pair and other times I'll take two. Depends on duration. Socks, I bring two pairs. One pair will hang in my tent to dry out and the other pair will be on me. I switch them out each day. Also, those socks are merino. Noticing a pattern? Haha. If you do want to give your shirt a wash, dunk that sucker in a creek if you can and let it air dry off your backpack. Good as new. On the pants front, it's really a non- issue. I worried about that when I first started backpack hunting. The fact of the matter is, it isn't practical to bring more than one outfit back there. Too much weight and too much real-estate being taken up in the backpack for that. Sounds gross, but it's really not that bad at all. I just try and keep moisture mitigation in mind. Hike smart. I don't hike with a jacket on because it makes me sweat more. Hike in your base layer. Then when you get to your destination, put your other layers on or simply let the base layer dry out in the breeze. Socks, I will often glass with my boots off midday to let my feet and socks dry out. Hope that all helps!

    Why did you ditch the quilt in favor of a sleeping bag?

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Was more of a temp rating thing than anything. My sleeping bag is rated to a lower temp than my quilt and I needed the extra warmth.

    • @joshuamcbee3930
      @joshuamcbee3930 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks! I'm the market for a new sleeping bag right now and have been thinking I might do the same thing--20 degree quilt for most of my hunts and 0 degree bag for colder ones. @@DialedinHunter

    How heavy is your pack on that seven day coues hunt?

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  Před 5 měsíci

      High 40's, low 50's. The weight is mostly water, food, and optics. 7 days of food alone is right around 14 pounds. Then about 18-19 pounds of water, depending on where I go. I ended up hunting a different area since making this, which required me to pack in water. If it weren't for that, my pack would probably be more like low 40's.

    Do you wear the same clothes all 7 days?

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, sir. I will rotate 2 pairs of socks every other day. And I usually bring an extra set of undies to change into halfway through the trip. I've also done the whole trip in just one set. The beauty of merino wool, lol.
