Code 3 D-Tech Synchronized Rotators Back in the Lightbar
I finally moved the Synch D-Tech system back into the 420 Mini Lightbar. If you haven't been following my efforts to sync D-Tech rotators, I have created a playlist showing the process.

Previous setup, proof of concept
czcams.com/video/06ds2mgiWhs/video.html
Code 3 D-Tech rotators were an interesting concept but always looked like a purple blur instead of well defined red and blue flashes. I previously tried slowing the rotation speed and that helped. This video explores what happens when two D-tech rotators are synchronized with a gear system similar to the original Aerodynic.

Synchronizing Code 3 D-Tech Rotators - Losing the Purple Blur

*Fixed the editing to remove a random blank section* Code 3 D-Tech rotators were an interesting concept but always looked like a purple blur instead of well defined red and blue flashes. Purple Blur? Is there a Perfect Speed for Code 3 D-tech Rotators?

I recently slowed down some Code 3 D-Tech rotators to see if they would have better color definition. czcams.com/video/DXzjv0WHWYQ/video.html I am currently working on a project to synchronize two D-Techs so they flash in an organized manner. Before taking on that project I am experimenting with rotation speed. To test this simply placed a D-Tech on a rotating base with a variable speed motor. ...

I switched the gears and motors out on my Code 3 420 D-tech mini bar. They still look like a purple blur, but not nearly so badly now that they are slowed down. Here - czcams.com/video/0_NSqFH4hgA/video.html I play with the speed even more.

Code 3 XL5000 Lightbars, Which One Is Better?

A look at two similar, but also very different XL5000s. One has 6 rotators and 3 stingers, the other has 5 total rotators and 2 stingers. Both use high speed rotators in the center, but the bar with the full size fast rotators isn't technically factory. While fast "full height" rotators were an option, these were made with 9v motors (Federal Style) instead of changing the gears (Code 3 Style). ...
Whelen Edge Duplex Color Change by Suggestion

I changed the color of the rear flashers in my "loaded plus" 9622 lightbar. I think the red / blue does look better and stand out from the traffic advisor. Which Orbits better: Code 3 Oscilaser or Federal Meteor TCL? There are many warning lights that can be called traffic clearing lights. Each one has benefits and drawbacks. Should Every Strobe Beacon Have a Sun-Shield? Whelen Options

If so on some products more than others? Thanks to @willfarmagain3564 for bringing this topic up most recently in the comments of another video.

Didn’t know D-techs were a factory option. Usually these were aftermarket replacements that didn’t work well as most rotator speeds were too fast to get effective flash from these.

  • @photonpilot__
    @photonpilot__ Před 26 dny

Synced like that and with slow rotation is definitely how they should've been from factory. Whether they flash the same color or alternate having them go slow and in sync definitely improves their effectiveness

  • @photonpilot__

My two lens XL9000 bar sucked the juice, if this one fit on my SUV it would have imploded!😂 Actually, I ran my bar for years on my Chevy S10 Blazer and never replaced the alternator with one delivering a higher amperage. Was very close to this: two red domes with the driver side having a clear insert. Rear had two inboard amber panels and select alert that allowed for amber only in the rear. Clear end caps for intersections. I always considered modifying it for halogens but really liked the select alert. It was an awesome bar and my department let me do things like respond onto the interstate and cross major multi-lane roads because I had it. Other volunteers who had the crappy two rotator mini-bars were limited in where they could go. My captain had a Federal 12X bar and that one was nice too. Thanks for bringing back great memories of the FD from nearly 40 years ago!

If anybody is interested the patent number is US6585399B2 for the D-tech rotators applied for in 2002 expired in 2019. Overview of the patent: The use of absorptive filters in light bars and warning lights for emergency vehicles is well known. One major disadvantage with such absorptive filters is that they absorb light and thereby reduce the intensity of warning signals being provided to observers. In addition, the absorbed light creates heat in the absorptive filter which can be problematic. There is a continuing need for warning lights which generate brighter signals, varying colored signals and multiple signals because such lights are usually more visible and usually are more effective in alerting observers. In addition, there is a continuing need to reduce power supply requirements. Although absorptive filters with multiple light sources may increase visibility, such a combination requires more power. Therefore, there is a need for warning lights which produce more visible signals without the concomitant increase in power needs.

There was a guy the next town over from me who would take these and remove the halogen stuff, plonk some whelen 800 or 1200 split domes on the rotor trays, put the power supplies in the speaker housing, and retrofit the plinth to hold the strobe tubes... it was SUCH a wild thing to see. The beacon lenses would spin around the strobe tube and create dual color strobe warning.. he applied for patents and tried to sell the idea to the OEMs, but by the time it got off the ground, LED tech was the forefront..... i think he put a couple videos on YT but i forget his channel name
