Hi Darya, Thanks for this in-depth video on creating repeating pattern motifs. I learned a great deal. I was sitting at my desk with a blank piece of paper, wondering where to start, when I happened upon this video. The way you explain the ideas is very calming, and I was put at ease immediately. I will now attempt my new thoughts and ideas on to paper. Thank you again, Traci, aka ChinookanArtist

@@omaidk6630 thank you! No, I didn't 😊
Thank you so much for your insight. I am from a design and special effects from film and broadcast background , so much blah blah. However, your input is so valued, Photoshop and illustrator are very different tools which crossover, no comparison you explained that quite well. I am watching for the softwares you mention. My plan is four different areas they will expand of course. Fabrics , commercial art and stained glass and faux stained glass sticker (money maker). Some hints in there, a swap of knowledge. Thank you.
I love Cat. I watch her Skillshare courses. She’s one of the best teacher’s on there. I highly recommend her. Elizabeth Silver and Oksancia are another two designers I’m subscribed to who are genuine people that really know their stuff. Hey Darya! I’ve loved this video! So interesting to know about your life and experiences and a lot of your story truly resonates with me! I have taken a sabbatical period to focus on my art - trying to set up a business but not too demanding a business that it takes away the joy! I am lucky enough to have had a career already and now I am ready to go back to working part-time perhaps in a museum or art shop, even a cinema… 😅 - if it is within your interests and brings benefits its a win win in my eyes - and less money in my view at the moment means less responsibility too 😊! Your job at the botanical gardens sounds like another great option I would consider now! I can only imagine how much inspiration it brings you for your botanical art projects! Well, I could chat here with you all day, much love ❤️ from Italy for now x , Alessandra.
@@acesaratograzie Alessandra 😊💗
It’s really really difficult and I’m starting to think that people that find major success are just incredibly lucky or already have money to pay for absurdly expensive ads to drive traffic to whichever site they’re selling on.
I think it's about having a commercial style, not everyone has that.
@@YagirlM it is hard, indeed, I wish I could say otherwise... You're right, it could be luck, could be money and other factors. It's hard to keep going in such conditions but I think the internal light and the need to create is something precious that guides me personally. I don't know if I'll ever get rich haha but I would never like to stop creating, that would be the ultimate disaster for me. Let's keep creating 🤍

Soo…Darya, “the moral to the FB voting delimna” may be, that people are ruled by the LOWEST FACEBOOK COMMON DENOMINATOR: scrolling quickly, hardly thinking, clicking and moving on. The FB ‘world’ just isn’t conducive to a good/fair contest of anything, other than looking at many posts quickly! What more appropriate social media might attract more attentive audience for professional artists like you? (Try not to be overly concerned about users on FB. )
@@DianeHEShort thank you Diane 🙏🏼

Hello! Thanks for your kind words! I did not design this shirt, unfortunately. You can find my classes in textile design here: www.skillshare.com/en/r/user/daryakarenski
This was super helpful! Thank you! So if you have a beautiful piece of watercolor art, like your Hope Floral pattern, that does not need to be color reduced because it will be printed via Spoonflower, how do you recolor it to create other colorways? Do you have to use one of the more advanced software programs that you mentioned?
Correct - no need to color reduce in the strict sense of the word. It can be recolored in Photoshop by creating layers for each color using lasso and magic wand and then recoloring them using Saturation, Hue and Color Balance settings!
I'm so happy about your class!!
I'm so happy you like it!!

I know Im late responding but this is my 1st viewing here. Sorry. I just turned 70 and have owned a lot of brushes over the years along with very large squirrel hair to smaller squirrel, and the synthetic mixed with Squirrel and totally synthetic to mimic squirrel hair. The larger the brush the less shape and spring you will get. That is true even for sable brushes. I have a full set of squirrel mops and I never use the three largest ones for that reason. Like you, I just don't care for a brush that wont start up. The smaller the squirrel mop, the more control you have..I love my two smallest ones. I have some squirrel filberts too and no, a large filbert soft squirrel type brush be it real or imitation is never going to have bounce or hold its shape when its full of water. The wetter the squirrel hair is the less point you will get because it holds so much water that the ends expand. The fine hairs is heavy with water! Naturally it will not bounce, but so great to wet the paper with if you do wet into wet. It really dies act like a mop. It will only show its point when most of the water is drained out. It's just the nature of that type of brush. As far as your kolinsky, sable or sable imitations, you just cannot compare that with a squirrel hair type brush. They do not perform the same way. They aren't supposed to perform the same way. God bless and thanks for sharing. I love your beautiful work.
Thank you so much for your feedback! 🧡
Thank you 🥰

Hallo Daria.
