    I love Cat. I watch her Skillshare courses. She’s one of the best teacher’s on there. I highly recommend her. Elizabeth Silver and Oksancia are another two designers I’m subscribed to who are genuine people that really know their stuff. But, oh, You forgot Liz Kohler Brown, she should definitely be on that list.

      @@sheverleyclacken3676 Thank you for sharing! I have not watched Liz's classes personally, hence no mention. I'm sure there are more of great creators out there!

    The sales tactics are what get me. There are qualified teachers who sell on the idea that if you don’t learn from them (at a big price) you are making a mistake and won’t succeed. They also play on your self doubt. I hate that. We all have self doubt but it doesn’t stop me and I don’t want it to be my reason for choosing a course. The scare tactics turn me off so much that I can’t decide what is the best path to pursue. I’m on Skillshare and sticking with that for now. Any other advice?

      I think being aware of the sales tactics is already a big step in making decisions more conscious. Some sellers provide value without resorting to manipulation on pain points. But marketing is tough - and sales tactics push people to make desicions faster... Great for the seller, not so great for the buyer, and the opposite is true - it's hard to cut through the noise for sellers who "just" provide valuable content.
      I can tell almost for sure that no course can guarantee success. What they do is provide roadmaps and shortcuts - but what worked once for one person might not work for someone else exactly the same - the market and the world keep evolving. I think the best approach is to prepare for a journey, a marathon - not a sprint, enjoy the process, trust your gut, find teachers you trust and remember that even they can't guarantee that everything will work out. Hope it doesn't sound too pessimistic! 😊

      I forgot to add that there are PLENTY of great resources on Skillshare and CZcams - but unlike the streamlined courses, it takes time to comb through them and find what truly works for you.

    What is your pet peeve about fake experts?

    • @veronicainchauspe1673
      @veronicainchauspe1673 Před 10 měsíci +3

      My pet peeve is artists/designers who make most of their income teaching/ selling overpriced courses or through a membership, yet they claim to teach how to successfully license or use POD websites. Many of them offer plenty of inspiration and half truths and can be a bit misleading. There are honest artists/designers who teach, but the ones that promise success rub the wrong way.
      Pretty much number 4

      @@veronicainchauspe1673 yes! Memberships are my pet peeve as well. Great passive income for the creator, annoying for the buyer. Then they dump loads of unstructured information on you as the subscription content 🤷‍♀️
