New Touhou roguelike bullet hell released in Early Access, and it's a banger! I've been playtesting it ever since 2022, and it's been a fantastic journey seeing this game build from the ground up.
Like Touhou 18 and 18.5, Lensed Night Sky has a mid-stage shop system and randomly-selected enemy waves. You buy and sell items through the shop, and can also sell your own stats for additional credits. Credits are not retained after a shop, so you're encouraged to pick and choose what to sell and buy carefully.
Combined with a limited inventory, the roguelike shop system here is quite delicately-balanced and provides more strategy then Risk of Rain-flavoured "buy and pick up every item possible and break the game" (though there are still definitely ways to break this game with some luck!)
The game's boss and stage formations/patterns are decent and have plenty of creativity, though compared to other non-roguelike shmups I've played they're not as tightly designed - which, when you consider how roguelike mechanics come into play, is understandable. It is very much designed around you using the shop liberally every chance you get - and I appreciate that direction! Every good game should give players a reason, if not many to engage with its core mechanics.
There are various "curses" and "wards" you can take which are additional game modifiers - they can do things such as "add a bunch of vengeful spirits to your inventory that you must pay to get rid of" (Haunting curse) or "start with maxed out stats" (Preparation ward). Curses add challenge value, while Wards reduce them. I played with a mix here which put my final value at 7. There are achievements for clearing the game with high challenge values, up to 30!
Lensed Night Sky, being in Early Access, is still incomplete - the final stages and "epilogue" chapters are still not implemented, and there's still many bugfixes and balancing changes to be done. I'd love to see some performance and visibility fixes in particular, as you can see some of the lategame patterns can tax my laptop a lot with their thousand bullet counts.
For what it is, though, Lensed Night Sky is incredibly promising! I encourage giving it a try.

boobs Alice AABD is an excellent scorevival shot. I’m guessing at the end, Elise is running from the woods/changed her mind and that’s why the vines pulled her back in to strangle her. Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense in the story.
It's an opening, everything is symbolic, it's not storytelling The vines are just telling that what she put herself into is way bigger than what she can handle.
The 90's style fit's an anime of this perfectly to where Little Goody Two Shoes in any other style would be unacceptable, lol. Amazing stuff.

Hot take: This game while have many visual stuff feels a lot shallow that PM. Especially going back and forth from house to the village. Endings are ok. Nothing interesting for collecting all firefly. Repetitive money “grinding”. Short story.
not really story itself is amazing. while game play lack quality of life features and a bit slow. for a game with 90 vibe it is ok since that is how 90 games are . both cut scene and songs really leave a mark on you for long time. not to mention connection to pocket mirror and it beautiful art style. i would rate it 8.5/10.
the main reason you feel so is probs because Pocket mirror also counts as a mystery, so you're activley thinking about it constantly each time you find a new piece of info, with LGTS, there is no mystery, only events. That's why it feels more shallow, long story short, yall want more lore when there is no need for it

This is truly game of the year in its own category of a RPG game. Pocket Mirror was amazing and knowing the story of the first game gives a bitter feeling when you managed to reach the different endings of this game. Highly recommend it even if you have yet to play Pocket Mirror since you do not need to play it to know this game.
I was a bit apprehensive on buying this game on launch because it was pricier than most other games, but it ended up being a purchase I don’t regret. Beautiful artwork, good gameplay and captivating story in one lovely package!
I consider this game and Dave the Diver as a GOTY candidates.
i envy the people that will play this as the first game without knowing anything about pocket mirror, Playing this knowing damn well the true story after reading the Wax Records is dreadful
