I've only run into one diesel horn that sounded nearly as good as a steam whistle, and it was broken! It kind of had a high pitched squeak. Embarrassing on a diesel, but would not have been bad on an 0-4-0 dinkie!

These magnificent beasts of the past is what shaped our world today, thanks to industrial revolution and various other inventions.... They were the major means of transport before your precious electric vehicles or even combustion engines came along.... Without the steam, we would still be horse carriages and bullock carts today.... Get a bicycle and ride everyday to your work if pollution bothers you....
