  • Here we get a look at Shay Steam Locomotive No. 4 and a Brookville Model UD-18 at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Ulysses (Township), PA. The Shay was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio in 1912. It was last used in the mid 1950s by the Ely-Thomas Lumber Co. of Fenwick, WV. It would typically pull about 22 cars of logs. The Brookville was manufactured in 1945 by the Brookville Locomotive Works in Brookville, PA. The switch engine transferred railcars of raw materials and finished products at the tannery railyard for the Keystone Tanning & Glue company in Wilcox, PA. The engine was sold to Kovalchick Salvage in Sykesville, PA in 1966. The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum Associates purchased the locomotive in 2002 and restored it to its current condition.
