Hello, Just a video of me trying to save an old work light I had sitting around that wasn't working. I figured rather than throwing it in the trash I would fix it. This video was intended as entertainment, I did not do a very good job of explaining things, probably said some incorrect things, but at the end of the day if someone can use the content to fix something, it was worth it. Hiya. Newbie here. I see that next to the BIOS chip it is marked as U12 on the pcb. Are all those marked as 'Uxx' bios chips as well? I was looking at a WD PCB and do see U21 and U23 quite close to the MOTOR IC. U22 seems to be next to the RAM/MEMORY I am looking high and low for MOSFET/FET chips but am not able to identify one. Any advice?

maybe you can help. i hooked up a power cord to a HD and apparently it was backwards.. how do i test polarity so i don't do this again. and i think i need to swap a BIOS chip but how do i know what donor to get?
What do you mean you “hooked up a power cord to a hard drive and apparently it was backwards”? Was the drive just sitting on the table, was it in an enclosure? Need more info.
@@optimizelogicrepair2784 well i was using one of those readers that reads IDE drives and such. the power cord on it never fit right. i shaved some of the plastic off to get it to fit in the AC part. well i must of got confused and hooked it the wrong way. the board smoked a little.. i tried to use a meter to figure out which is + but IDK what im doing. one would think it would be labeled. its not. perhaps a picture may help? I THINK, from what i am told i only need to remove the one chip and install it on the donor. but no luck yet. not sure who to make sure i have the right donor board
@@daytonpyro if you remove the board from the drive, it will have a model number on it.
@@optimizelogicrepair2784 i think i checked that when i got another one. ill have to check again.
Thank you for the video. My old MacBook has not green light and is not charging, but it works fine when the battery has charge some juice in it. I'm gonna wing it and try replacing the ISL6259 directly. Let's see how it goes XD
I appreciate that you mention calibration and clearing the codes. It would be awesome if you would post a video showing how to perform both of those tasks.
I'm going to attempt to do this to save a hard drive. I wonder how important is the size of the nozzle in the heat gun? I've bought a heat gun from amazon and the only nozzle it has is 9mm diameter. From your video it looks like the nozzle you used was smaller than that.
Not super critical, I would put more effort in where you aim the nozzle. You could totally do it with a 9mm.
19:40 what did you change the temp to? and airflow?
They definitely do it right before bringing it in

Bad boi. No beef with the hdmi port 😡
16:15 are you looking threw the microscope as you do this? Or are you looking at a screen? 16:50 what is a fillet? my volume all the way up and can barely hear you
I let a shop change the chip but it shows still the wrong hard drive. The chip definitely got changed but it is as if it has the wrong board(new donor board) even if it has the BIOS from the old board. Any knowledge why this could be? Board was the WD 2060-800067-001
That reminds me I need to buy some of those roach clip board holder things
Really enjoyed this fix!
Buena explicación
Where can I get that replacement part?
Hey just wanted to let you know I was able to fix my laptop which had this same issue. I used a small blob of solder like you said in other comments and it worked! Thanks dude.
What can I do if the solder on the capacitors doesn't melt?
You could get low melt solder
Do you perhaps have a link/website? I ordered exactly these but received the wrong one. They are rather dark brown and the width of the caps is equal to the depth

hi, do you know which capacitor I need for the mainboard 820-00875-a (a1708), I can't find anything about it

great video but what happens if the bios chip is not near the end of the board as yours was? how is the heat applied then?
You just have to be a little more careful where you point the heat.
I hate that bios chips are even a thing... NO ONE is able to swap them from my donor board around where I live so I spent $100 to do it myself... Thanks for making this video.
Hopefully you were successful. Cheers!
How much does a respectable technician charge for this service? If I provide the new board and the faulty board.
Is there anywhere i can send my board for the bios to be swapped. I got a new one from ebay, and blasted both bios chips with 450 degrees, 550, and 650 for several minutes and neither will budge!
Well you could send it to us.
I'll do that! I also have a drive with an integrated BIOS and controller chip. Is that something you can swap out?
You started with 325-350 temperature but increased it when the chip did not come out. What was the final temperature you used to remove the chip?
I have my Hakko hot air station set to 900 with Airflow set to 2 for console work, but on these hard drive logic boards, the chips will come off between 400 and 500 degrees. Fahrenheit, of course.
Hi ikow this is an old post but hopefully I can get some reply, Is it the backlight on the screen is the problem with this one cause thats the problem I have .Thank you
No, the problem is the components on the motherboard. Too much current burns the filter up.
Hi friend do you have bios? Thank yoy
What do you need BIOS for?
Simple and Beautiful Work, tks.
GOod afternoon, hope be well, i have an HDD of 320 Wester digital caviar blue, at work i have one broken with the exact same board part. My HDD is recognized by the motherboard, but i cannot get access to the data or info of partitions and disk capacity, If i do the change of the board can i get back the info stored? if i disconnect the disk suddenly appears the capacity used but of course i cannot access.
Did you ever upgrade the battery pack? I just bought two 18650 3500mAh 10A batteries that say they have an integrated protection circuit built in. I guess I don't need to reuse that circuit protection strip? Looks like I'll have to mod the battery compartment a little to accommodate the slightly larger batteries.
I have not, I do have the parts, just need to get some cells. It is on my list of to-dos. Was thinking of using some recycled cells.
Que valor numerico tiene el componente U1, seria tan amable por favor. Que el de mi lampara se exploto y no tengo manera de saber que datashet es.

I want to do a swap plate, can i use the board that came from the old plate into the donor drive?
I don't understand your question.
thank you for being the only video on youtube that helped me fix my speaker. Had no clue how to take it apart, the sound was distorted, and it wouldn't turn on unless it was on charge. I took it apart and everything magically fixed itself.
Awesomeness. This is why I make videos, to try to help.
Hello thanks for the great video I have the exact same issue but do not have the original PCB anymore. Is there a work around? Thanks!
Not that I am aware of. Without the original BIOS, the drive will not have the correct parameters.
Can you fix a nitendo switch with a wifi module that isnt working even thought it was never opened before?

@@tabrezullahkhan6436 I would check that one inductor for burn marks or cracks.
Thank you for making this video. I have this exact same worklight and have, what I believe to be the same problem that you had on this video except that on mine it's much more obvious because the mosfet is burned. I just need to get a new mosfet to fix it. Also I've been thinking of replacing the charging port with an USBC one. Have you tried this?
I have not thought about USB-C though it would be a cool idea. I’ve been thinking about making a new battery pack with larger capacity cells though.
