    I always use leak detection bubbles. The detector is handy but bubbles have never let me down. It's just stupid simple and ultra reliable especially is you use the more "clingy" solutions that stick to the fittings but in a pinch have just put soap and water.

  • @espy0008

    Not saying the installation is right but the open part below the T is drawing fresh air up and out. The only way that would be a danger is if the vent were to become blocked coming out of the roof. The real danger is the single wall pipe in an area that will eventually be filled with flammable products.

    • @LearnPlumbing
      @LearnPlumbing Před 16 dny

      I did notice that it was drafting incredibly well. The 5" single wall was barely getting hot.

    • @LearnPlumbing
      @LearnPlumbing Před 16 dny

      @espy0008 the 5" sw is in a 2x6 second floor wall before it goes thru roof. I sae that the closet had an electrical junction box am the panel had a 30amp breaker labeled water heater. I advised my client ( Real-estate agent representing the buyer) to advice his clients to switch to an electric when they are ready for a new water heater. Or relocate to the garage and get a closet back.

    I enjoy all of your videos. But you asked, so I will criticize: i would have wiped off the joint before applying heat, then started the heat on the pipe at the lower joint, just for a short while, then evenly apply heat around the bottom joint first, then run the flame up to the second pipe and joint as I touch the bottom joint with much less solder than you used, then do the same with the next joint. I would finish-up by letting it cool a bit, then wipe the joint off.

  • @normalhuman9260
    @normalhuman9260 Před 21 dnem

    I would focus the heat on the fitting rather than the pipe,and I would apply that heat to the bottom side of fitting. You're not heating everything,rather you are heating the direction you want to solder to travel. Careful not to apply too much heat. But what you did should work just fine.

  • @johnf.6942

    If it’s clean and fluxed , Tap the solder every few seconds, to get it sucked in. To hot just burns off the flux.

    Hi there, I have a Navien tankless water heater that was exchanged for free by a Navien crew in January 2015 - the previous Navien tankless was leaking internally like crazy and flooded my basement - - ever since it was installed, it has been at 115F setting for hot water ( i live in toronto ) -- - my question is, can i enter Commercial Mode on the heater and increase from 115F to 150F and safely run at 150F 24/7 - 365 ? i don't have small children in the house, they all got married and moved out within the last 6-7 years - - would there be any issues with the 150F setting when the hot water inlet to my LG front loading clothes washer is hooked to a hot water line from the Navien ? supposedly my LG washer can run at a maximum of 70 celsius on a cycle called "Sanitary" - - please advise, ,, thank you in advance

    • @LearnPlumbing
      @LearnPlumbing Před měsícem

      Rolo great questions. Yes Storage water heaters should have an expansion tank. 50 gallons of water heated an additional 60 to 70 degrees expands by approximately 1 gallon or more. To avoid that expansion adding pressure to the plumbing system the air balloon in the expansion tank absorbs that expanded water. Longevity of the bypass valve here in the Pacific Northwest where our mountain water is fairly soft, a little heavy in calcium amd the cities chlorinated a little too much. I tell my customers the bypass valve will be the first thing to fail around the 5 year period.
