I love this video. I did a video removing the backstraps with a stone hand knife (I have since hafted it). People complained about how easy it is to remove backstraps without a knife, instead of paying attention to how easily it cut, so I did two more, cutting a roast through the vacuum bag it was in, then cutting it again after it was out of the package, just to demo how sharp stone knives are. That was a chert blade, nowhere near as sharp as the obsidian blades I make.

Practice is a big component. But ….. I still have a question and would like the benefit of your experience of how to avoid. I am pressing vertically downward. The arrowhead is beveled. Indentation and the tiniest rocking on a notching pad and “pop” off comes an ear. So, I place a piece of leather on the Notching Pad so the BASE of the arrowhead hangs over the edge of the leather suspended in air. It’s hard to get everything aligned. How to you avoid bevel rocking, depression of the point, while pressing to detach the notch flake? I guess more practice, I hope you understand the circumstance I described.
