Very enjoyable video. Simply can not help but make a fellow hungry seeing a nice piece of meat hanging, ready for the eating. I hope to be able to see more of your videos, Thank you
That is truly amazing brother. I know that steel is stronger, but is stone sharper and will stone do a better job in comparison to steel? Also, I'm going to check your playlist, but I'm wondering if you have any videos (or will you make any videos) on finding and identifying chert/flint in the wild, please? Thanks.
obsidian really does not dull, same with ceramic. The sharpest steel surgeons scalpels have an edge thickness three molecules in width at its finest edge, while obsidian (glass) and ceramics are much harder and have an edge width only one molecule in width.
The hard and ultra brittle edges of obsidian and ceramic dull because the edges chip away. Which brings up the question, how many people through the ages ate little pieces of scalpel sharp chips with their food?
Actually they wouldn't have had any reason to think everything would not be the same. They were surrounded by the same tools and technologies and world views and survival situations for pretty much their entire life and all their stories of the past would be full of the same stuff. Since they never or only very rarely witnessed major changes let alone revolutions in the way things were done - they would have had no reason to expect the future to be substantially different from what they knew or the recombinations that would be possible using known quantities, materials and objects. It's quite interesting really. There must have been an amazing sense of wholeness to culture, almost every perception completely naturalized. Which would have of course also been a limitation in many ways.
Hello............ What makes a good skinning knife ? Something like a Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter or some kind of Mora Knife ? What is your favorite skinner ? Thank You for Your Time.
Could you elaborate on the tecnique you use to sharpen th knives. I have the bifacing and the thining and shaping down, sharpening is where i run into problems.
+Micah Worthington Sharpening is done with pressure flaking. Abrade the edge first and then re- pressure flake the edge just enough to create a new serrated edge.
Great video..I'm impressed with your work and the info you bring to light. I have harvested a fair amount of Mule deer here in Oregon and have hung them as little as one day to a week on different occasions. I have heard of people leaving the hides on during the cure before but did not understand why until now. Thanks for the education. Looking forward to your next vid...
I am a young man trying to learn the the ways of the woods. I have made my own bows and love the woods. I want to try my hand at flint knapping but sadly there are no knappable stones available to me in my neck of the woods
They would have been surprised at the idea that someone might use anything else. Even King Solomon wasn't cognizant of the concept of technological change because there was almost none during a human lifetime. He said there was nothing new under the sun and the past and future was alike.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks!

Cool
In terms of efficiency, I find a few seconds of simply pulling the hide off to be the winner.
That Knife is sharp
What do you do when the knife goes dull?

Impressive how sharp that knife is.
They would laugh when they would find out all the trouble people in the future go through just to make a freakin knife!!!
+mister smith You got that right.
You ever make those for AG Russell or sell them at his outlet ?
+YManCyberDude Sorry for the delay. For some reason I just saw your comment of a couple of months ago. I sell my knives at www.artofishi.com Thanks.

they had no idea we would have anything other than what they had,
