Would you have to size down for the waist if it is smaller than the bust, or is it enough to cut shorter elastic? I have more of an hourglass shape, so a lot of grading on itch to stitch for me, especially from waist to hip (3 sizes difference).

Hi, thank you for sharing so much of your wonderful knowledge. I have just bought some synthetic satin to line a jacket. I thought the striped lining was going to be vertical on the pattern pieces but it's horizontal. Can I cut out the pieces on the cross grain? How do I find the cross grain so my pieces are straight? There are 3 pattern pieces: sleeves, front and back linings. Thank you.

I'm, personally, for me, not a fan of empire waist style dresses or tops so I passed this pattern up. However, after seeing how beautiful the bodice is finished, I want to give it a try. Since I am uncomfortable in the empire style (I feel like they make me look pregnant or much bigger than I actually am) what do you think if I extended the bodice so the elastic is at my waist? Do you think it would then leave too much gathered fabric on the side seams, from the underarm to the waist? Thank you!
