    Come join me for this fun sewing hack! you'll see it's so fun to make little changes to a tried and tested pattern.

    You made me remember my mom, today. When I would come home and do marathon sewing, she would often do my hand sewing finishes. She was faster than I was and it helped me accomplish more in the time I had. Plus,we would visit while we stitched. 😊-Deborah

    Thank you for showing how you line these dresses. I prefer lining dresses/skirts to wearing a slip. Aside: The bond you have with your family is so joyful and warm. I feel privileged that you video your time with them and share it with me.

    Thank you for this. I cannot see me ever wearing a pencil skirt, but I have to adjust patterns if I am making for my daughter as she likes baggy clothes. Honestly, I make them fit then add inches usually using the grain line so that I keep the original shape. However, for myself, I usually line the bodice for the dress, but it has never occurred to me to make a facing with the dress fabric and make a lining piece. Brilliant idea.

    Another place you can put the zipper is in the side seam below the sleeve. The advantage is that the you don't have to change the back, and the zipper is even more concealed even if you are using an invisible zipper.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci

      I find a zipper there incredibly uncomfortable. That’s why I never put them there. I can really feel the stiffness of the zipper there and I can’t feel it on the back.

    Wonderful instructions. I imagine the same shift dress process could be applied to the LN Sonata dress. I love the Sonata neckline on me, but not crazy about the dress shape. This gives me a good idea. Question; how do you fit/drape a back fisheye dart on yourself? 22:52

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci +2

      You need to know the waist height and that were the widest part of the dart is, then it tapers to nothing as you go up and down. I just pin pin pin with the garment on myself. That is a reference. Then on the paper, I neaten them up.

    Hi Karina! I almost passed on this lovely dress when I saw all the buttons, my absolute least favourite thing to do. How timely that you have this video with the zipper solution. I imagine I could also do the gathered or flared option skirt with a back zip? Any recommendations on the required length of it?
    Thank you.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci

      Yep, you can do the zipper with a skirt seam there. You just need to be careful to line them up horizontally :)

  • @helenwood3199
    @helenwood3199 Před 2 měsíci

    Do you have to adjust the bust darts when you have removed the button placket? 🤔 Will the dart points intrude where we don't want them?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Not at all. They are far from the center. They are not involved at all.

  • @helenwood3199
    @helenwood3199 Před 2 měsíci

    What is the advantage of the facing with the lining? Why not just the lining with under stitching at the neck?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Just the lining is way too flimsy. I wouldn’t do it. The facing is heavier and interfaced and gives the dress structure.

  • @cigdemturker2347
    @cigdemturker2347 Před 2 měsíci

    Dear Karina, I've just purchased the pattern and noticed that there's only one skirt pattern. It says both flared and gathered skirt, is there anything wrong or just ok??

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Před 2 měsíci

      I hacked the a skirt to be a pencil skirt here. I explained that in great detail that this was a hack to the pattern. The gathered skirt is a rectangle and the dimensions are in the pattern instructions.
