The Road to Paris: How an Olympian Bounces Back From Injury
INSPIRATIONAL
Been following your journey and mightily impressed by what you've come back from. But you've done 1:43 800m. Rather than following Max I think you could have been leading. You're still quick, but I think need to take the initiative to front run at times.
I was hoping to get into GB Masters but Covid came and stopped the world and then I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and my opportunity went. So I know how you feeling, rubbish. Get it out off your head and get back in the game. All the best.
Hope to see you win the world champs next year
<3 - looking forward to seeing you at the LA Olympics
If you’re not planning on running that event in the Olympics you shouldn’t run it in the trials! They impede genuine athletes trying to qualify in that event.
You suck dude
something good will come …respect and heads up brother
Thanks for posting this video. All the best for the future
I am SO sad for you!
Incredibly classy video. Routing for you going forward. You seem like you have a champions attitude. With that, you’ll be back
❤❤❤
Keep on working Elliot you will get the rewards you deserve🙌
❤
For what it's worth, Elliot, I think you are very unlucky not to be selected for Paris. It seems to me that the selectors were determined to get Jake Wightman into the team at all costs and once he pulled out of the 1500 trials (because he wasn't confident of making the top two ?) the 800 was the only possible event for him. Maybe the selectors were influenced by your "failure" in the European Champs - but they picked Elish McColgan for the 10K when she dropped out (!) of that event tin Rome. Another selector's favourite. In 1974 Steve Ovett was not selected by England for the Commonwealth Games; his reponse was to say that "I'm going to become so good that they cannot possibly not select me in future" and he didn't do too bad after that setback. Keep grinding on, Elliot, there's always another race.
Such a tough one to take! Unlucky Elliot you’ll be back. Smash some diamond leagues and run some silly times 🔥
It was a tough journey for everything to click for anyone for that Olympic spot. You have a true passion for the sport. I’m glad to see you will be back. Kudos for that.
tripped laros cmon mate
I've been waiting for this video. Good on you, it can't have been easy to make this, but from the start you promised us the highs and the lows and it doesn't get much worse than this. I really felt for you during that race. I know no-one was to blame, it drives me nuts the way idiots point the finger, the 800m and 1500m almost always have collisions and falls. Following you all this time I know how hard you've worked, that it hasn't been easy with injuries, and to see it all come to this was truly heart-wrenching. You have to pick yourself up mentally now and move on from that race and the Olympics to what's next for you. I know you'll be back.
Elliot crashed into other runners at two consecutive, high profile races.
Massive respect for getting this video out after a couple of tough weeks for you. It would have been easy to post nothing. Fair play.
Did you say that you eat takeout food? That is wild! You must not eat anything that you do not know how it is prepared and the quality of the ingredients in it. You must only allow non-GMO, organic and natural food in your body. Your are requiring your body to perform at superhuman level, so it you cannot afford not to fuel it with food of the highest quality. Think of this analogy your body is like a performance or racing car, do you think anybody would be allowed to put regular petrol from filling station in a racing car and expect the win a Grand Prix? Personally I think you should do some blood tests including hormone levels. You may be over training as look to be underweight and appear have lost your powerful sprint finish.
It was a pleasure to meet you and talk about tents today Elliot. Gutted for you watching this video, but keep soldiering on and never give up on your journey and aspirations. Have subscribed to make sure I see your videos and can follow your progress 😊👍.
I like how you changed camera angles to not show how you tried to cut off and ended up tripping Kerr, 5:44. Serves you right, maybe learn how to not fall over in the last 50
This is exactly why many athletes have mental issues, because of stupid comments like this.
Really enjoyed and appreciate your honesty in these videos. Showed some class here.
I was surprised wightman got the nod over you. You beat him in the diamond league, have raced more and it seems ridiculous to chose someone injured and who couldnt get to the start line in the uk championships. Isnt his dad ceo of Scottish athletics? Seems dodgy to me ...
I feel bad for Elliot, but is Jake not the fastest Brit over 800m this year? It's hard not to pick him given his time and his championship pedigree - for me, that counts for more than a one off head to head with Elliot (unless it had been the UK or European champs)
@@ChrisLoudon-xs9lj No, Pattison's been 2 seconds quicker than Jake this year.
@@surreal7963 only since the team was picked though? At the time of the trials, Jake was fastest, no?
@@ChrisLoudon-xs9lj I mean you didn't say that.
@@surreal7963 ok you're right, the selectors should have predicted the future 🤔
Stay strong Elliot 👏🏾
Fair play to you. Great attitude to display. Courage and bravery. Good luck at the next champs
Abso heart breaking mate💔
Realistically at your age trying to qualify for the 800 again at the Olympics in four years is pretty much off the cards I would have thought. But you’re a very talented runner, maybe consider stepping up to 5000?
Bro is the talk of the town 2 for 2 trips. Mad respect
Josh Kerr, should not have gotten evolved in the 800m. You were unlucky....but you will be back and better than before. Thanks for sharing your story from the beginning. You are authentic and keep things simple. All the best.
Good job your opinion holds no weight then. Josh can do and run whatever event he wants to
was gutted for you watching the race
This race was something else, I felt awful for Elliot. This was an Olympic trials and for Josh to use such a huge race to simply test himself over a shorter distance is not good enough. He didn’t have much to lose by making his move whereas Elliot had everything to lose. I think this was an unacceptable risk on Josh’s part. The Team GB selectors must have had a difficult job making an honest selection after this incident. Perhaps setting a date for another trial/race would have been fairest although I’m not sure of deadlines etc… Elliot (and his family/support) deserved better than this. I wish him all the best and respect him for dealing with this so well.
Gutted for you 👎 that’s racing for you . Keep the faith target next year. If you keep healthy over the winter with no injuries you’ll definitely have more to give 💪
Keep your head high the Olympics might be over, but you are not. You can come back and achieve a lot more, looking forward for the rest of your journey
And you tripped Laros yesterday as well… not having good luck ATM mate!!
Great to see you in action yesterday at London Diamond League
Such a strange combination of events and decisions. Gutted for you with the end result. 2025, more to come! Thanks for documenting the process, it‘s been very interesting to watch and has definitely helped motivate me to get back to some pretty competitive running this year.
Kerr should have run the 1500 (UK Athletics should insist when it affects others Olympic places). Wightman would then have got in the 1500 (Mills still has the 5K) and you would have most likely got the extra 800m spot. Thought your tactics were spot on.
He can do whatever he wants though. Kerr was gonna pass Burgin, maybe not Pattison, but he was gonna make that team. If you’re not good enough on the day, than it is what it id
Why should he? As the current world champion hes guaranteed entry into the 1500. If these 800m runners cant beat a 1500m runner then they definitely shouldnt be there in the first place. If he didnt cut kerr off and trip them both, kerr would have won.
@@dubs4966 Kerr was not gonna make the team in the 800 lol cuz he doesn't have the qualifying standard.
@@surreal7963 sorry, I meant finish top 2.
You’re talking nonsense. Kerr did what top UK runners have been doing for decades, racing below distance at key times. Worked for all the greats like Coe, Ovett and Cram.
800m can be unpredictable at best and brutal at worst. It's what happens when athletes are running sprinting speeds in a non lane designated middle distance race. Elliot is in good company at least as the same thing happened to Athing Mu (current Olympic champion) in the US Olympic trials in Oregon. The GB selection process seems to be all over the place, however. Surely they should be either Olympic trials OR a British championship, not a mixture of the two. The incident didn't affect Josh Kerr's Olypic hopes (other than a few bruises) as he is automatically selected for the 1500m anyway. At least with the US system the athlete knows that they have to finish in the top three of their event in order to qualify, no ifs, no buts. Injuries are hard to take but racing accidents suck.
Yeah, the US selection system is brutal and stupid. They have done themselves out of a medal.
Actually very sad Keep your head up man You are very good I think the problem in major moments might be mental cause you are so fit maybe the nervs playing a crucial roal 2025 tokyo 👀
The video we were all waiting for🤌🏼
running on spikes at top speed is tricky
It’s tricky below average 1500m and average 800m , maybe 8 , either take drugs or get left behind 💊
Wrong decision
As an 800 / 1500 runner how long is your long run and do you do that as a weekly run?
Kerrs fault. Bad sportsmanship he wasn’t planning on doing 800m at the Olympics anyway. Sorry for that mate. Kerr was a twat. He tried to barge through he knew he was going to make a big contact. You were infront so couldn’t see.
Your fault or josh?
Josh’s fault look at the race it’s on CZcams. Josh tried to barge through and it was completely unnecessary because Josh has said he’s not going to run 800m at the Olympics anyway
@@BitCrafted incorrect. Josh had the inside line. Giles was on the outside of lane 1. And was about to get passed fairly on the inside. And instead of just conceding position, he tripped them both. If you think josh has any fault here, you clearly dont know how track works. You DO NOT cut people off under no circumstances. The fault is 100% with giles. Now hes gotta live with that because he wont be going to paris
Last commenter said it best. In the final stretch if someone is in lane 1 they have to run in a straight line or go around everyone. Kerr ran in a straight line and didn't break any rules. Giles ran in the outer part of lane 1 and then shifted more towards the middle when he felt Kerr coming from the inside, blocking Kerr.
50-50 for me, gap wasn't clear-cut and would have required some level of barging to squeeze through. Giles shouldn't have drifted left either but easy to do when lads pressuring your right.
I feel for you bud .. keep pushing and keep believing 🫡
Giles knew he was about to get beat so he played the oldest trick in the book. Could have injured himself and kerr. Bad sportsmanship, Unacceptable tbh.
absolute rubbish, you may play that game, he was looking towards Max Burgin and in doing so veered left where Josh Kerr was coming through, no way is he doing that deliberately, if your mind works like that , fine, but dont assume others have your morals
This is 800m racing and runners get tangled up and trip over all the time, it's part of the nature of the event. We just saw it happen to Athing Mu. No-one is to blame.
@@jensmith3719 like i said, bad sportsmanship and unacceptable, so clearly no i do not play that game. You see it happen time and time again, and instead of conceding 1st place and just coming 2nd, He threw away his olympic dream and came last instead. Kerr had the inside line, giles cut him off and tripped them both.
@@28mouse85didn’t happen it was kerrs fault for thinking that was a gap
Giles may have technically been at fault but to say it was intentional is ludicrous
