In the mean time these trucks will still need diesel mechanics to wait out the coming self driving debacle.

Looking at your paystub, the one thing that would irk me is the holiday pay at 8 hours. When was the last time you worked an eight -hour shift?? We had this issue at a previous employer. Our holiday configured the same way, hourly pay times 40 hours. At that level, the difference between a paid holiday week and a paid work week was really dramatic. We complained to management that we were losing money by taking time off. We eventually convinced our company to pay for holidays and weeks off at the same rate as a fully worked workweek.

I am curious how these trucks will do out here. I know at times I get lost trying to find these roads that not even google maps can recognize. Plus like you’ve said all the rough terrain and various obstacles. I’ve seen them pulling doubles/triples so that’ll be a whole other thing to see….a robot pulling triples! As for driving…it can’t be any worse than some of the drivers that are already out here!!😲

I drove sand for a company out of Hobbs and often when showing up at the wells there would be 40 or 50 trucks in staging and 5 or 6 at the well off loading, it could take 5 to 8 hours of waiting just at the well and maybe an hour at the sand place plus the drive once loaded to the well, 1 to 2 loads per day paying 30 % which is about 240 per day and that's if all went well. After a month and a half I quit

Just last week at a rig put in 75 hrs in 4 days straight as a Vaccum tanker truck driver, made two loads and a washout at the end of shift and slept for 3 days on site 😉

Math ain't adding up. Truck gets 3 to 5 loads at 100.00 Let say 4 loads. Where are these 3k to 4k paycheck stubs for the driver coming from.

You have to vote with your feet. If you hate it enough, leave. I left after two years of rate cuts and never plan to return. Well at least not under the current conditions. I still think this documentary shines some light on this industry and perhaps if accidents and deaths continue to pile up they will start regulating more sand haulers and many of these local jobs exempted from ELD working around the clock with very little to no sleep.
