Octopath traveler 1 got over praised because at the time the switch just outright lacked jrpgs. Before anyone says yea there was some. But not nearly as much as it had by time octopath 2 cameout. Which is why it was reviewed less highly. Despite it being 100% better then the first.

unpopular opinion but the stories and dialogue aren't great. You wouldn't read a book or watch a movie about any of the characters' story.

I appreciated this more positive take on Recollection, as a lot of folks who have played one or both of the originals were quite harsh on this, ranging from "It's okay" to "It absolutely misses the point of the originals!" For me, I had a lot of fun revisiting Trace Memory, but the puzzles, while still fun to solve, weren't nearly as inventive as what the original DS game had. If I could give one small piece of advice going forward, it's to be mindful of spoilers, especially since this is a visual novel. Apart from that, though, this video is a masterpiece, and I wish you luck with future videos!

I'll be honest, as someone familiar with the original games this game is based on, Recollection left a lot to be desired, both in the puzzle department (many were cut in the transition) and in terms of plot (there are a lot of changes and omissions, some good, some awful and others who are neat concepts but aren't fully explored). However, I'm glad you had fun with this Recollection and that the themes of the work touched you. I still would recommend having a look at the originals, but it's good to see these old games still leave an impression in new gamers.

11:48 it’s always the best feeling when you try a game out of your typical norm. And you end up gaining a better appreciation for games of a similar genre. Just feels like you opened your self up to enjoy a whole new worlds of games to experience you wouldn’t think to try before

I appreciate that you choose to make videos on all sorts of games and game genres. They always come off as genuine. Especially when it comes to talking about you aspects of games you enjoy but also parts you don’t enjoy as much lol. just makes your videos more unique compared to just standard review videos. Willing to acknowledge every aspect of a game. Even the ones that need some work, or don’t quite hit the mark.

I was introduced to your channel through your octopath 2 video and have been watching ever since. your writing, editing and sense of humour are awesome, keep it up! (also those hype montages you do at the end of some of your videos are absolutely legendary)

could've used some more mobility power ups or just more in general like the penguin, propeller, or even the blue shell rather than just three new ones and the same two old ones

I personally don't think the original NSMB ought to be lumped in with the rest. Not only did the game kickstart the retro revival that is still in place to this day, but it also had plenty of that GameCube-era wackiness with the different level gimmicks and power-ups like the Mega Mushroom. Combining 2D gameplay with some of Mario's 3D moves was also a fresh addition, and the minigames and Vs. Mode were awesome additions with a lot of their own chaos. VERY different from the sterile sequels.

The base game is not hard. But Shrine of the Warbringer... she ruined my party because I didn't break her in time. 6x hit move where even when you're above the HP cap (like I was) you get Game Over. Obviously there's better strategies which I changes to after losing but there is some tough content if you aren't looking up guides.

I liked the characters better in the first even though they don't interact fully.

I also like how OT2 Added voice acting to the final chapter bosses, whereas only 1 final chapter boss in OT1 had this, oh and of course the music for said final chapter bosses, always a joy to get to listen to them (both games). Wish it had more voice acting for the traveler banter, but with more voice acting as a whole it probably is asking for to much. Also felt like they got the balancing right for OT2, where it provides some challenge for the early game and got progressively harder as you got more JP and jobs to compensate for this, whereas OT1 was (for the most part) easy for the first and some second chapters, and got a sudden difficulty spike mid game. but overall, I still enjoy OT1, but enjoy OT2 more and cycle between the two games whichever tickles the fancy.

the only thing i prefered from the ot1 are the advanced classes, specifically sorcerer and warmaster

100% agree! All these little things add up to make this sequel blow the original one out of the water. I just hope we can see many more installments for Octopath. At least 8, XD

The first one sucked anyway and was super mediocre

Square Enix seems very tied to the expectations that it has cultivated among the public for Final Fantasy games, and this becomes very clear when the elements that make up 15 and 16 are clearly dissonant, causing this sensation of an incredible and mediocre game at the same time. I would love for them to compromise a little on budget/size, in exchange for a little more creative freedom for the development team. It's just depressing that the current CEO of SE is an idiot who still talks about NFT and blockchain, and obviously doesn't know how to measure sales expectations.

Going thorugh the game on my channel right now and I agree that this might be the best version so far.

After playing the demo, I’m still considering to get or not this game, mainly because I like more turn based combat, this one feels more like button smashing style….

This game was my goty period. Nothing topped it. I played/streamed both claude and rena back to back and even got myself a rare platinum because it was such a great jrpg back in the day, and they did a fantastic job with this remake. Squares lost me on alot of there newer ff games but they've done right by me with their re releases of a few old school jrpgs. Except ff pixel remaster where they screwed over ps4/ps5 fans with no physical release.

The backgrounds are stunning! I’ll probably have to add it to my already very long gaming bucket list now…

Theres an argument I once heard about the first Assassins Creed game, how it had a lot of cool stuff going but didnt feel like it had entirely figured all of those things out yet, and that it more so felt like a cool proof of concept rather than a full game on its own. I used to think the same thing applied to the first Octopath, so I really hoped it would get a sequel some day that fleshes out and expands on those ideas. Then the sequel came out and proved me right by how much ass it kicks.
