"Set This Circus Down" is a great album. The only song I don't care for is "Let Me Love You", but "Grown Men Don't Cry", this, "Take Me Away from Here", "Things Change"... no wonder it had 4 #1 hits!

Love this song! I miss him being on the earth and his music and poetry and his message of peace and efforts to end world hunger.

What this song means to me: I worked in England/Wales for few months in 1975. In a bookstore there a title The Bears and I caught my nature lover's attention. It's cover mentioned that John Denver sang Sweet Surrender for the movie. Already a big John Denver fan, I was familiar with the beautiful song, and was thrilled to learn there were a book and movie related to it, and that John wrote the song specifically for the movie. The book is an engaging true tale of a young man's raising three abandoned bear cubs in the Canadian wilderness. Some years later I finally saw the Disney movie, completing the song-book-movie set. The movie got a typical Disney treatment, but Chief Dan George is always a plus for me. I live in Cincinnati, but own a 30 acre woods in Indiana where I tent camp for a couple weeks each autumn. As I turn off the main highway onto the country road that leads to my woods, I begin singing Sweet Surrender, and all the stresses of work and the city just drain away. John Denver is my all-time favorite singer-songwriter. But I regret that he and Nanci Griffith never got together for some duets. Nanci is my favorite female singer-songwriter, a lovely lady with a wonderfully unique voice that I think would have blended so well with John's; it gives me chills just to think of them singing together. Like John, Nanci died too soon (2021), so maybe they've found each other... somewhere...

I saw this in high school one of my teachers was an john denver fan and it has left an impression on me ever since and maid me appreciate john denver's music even more. His songs not only apply to the children of the 60:s and 70's but also to the children of the 80's as well. I was born in 1981. When activists exposed the demented treatment of these innocent animals whose entire lives consisted of being abused & tortured, then chopped up & packaged to sell in grocery stores were shown on CZcams, Americans had an odd reaction-they stopped wanting to eat the gross brown flesh coming out of the little piggy Guantanamo Bays. Then the torture farm corporations did exactly what you think they would do-which is exactly the most horrible thing they could do. THE MEAT MEN PASSED LAWS MAKING FILMING FACTORY FARMS A CRIME. But it didn’t work, because videos still leaked out. So now the MEAT MEN corporate goons moved on to the next step-in some states, poultry industry lobbyists are trying to force through legislation that would mandate that stores carry their products. A couple months ago, Iowa’s House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that says that “if a grocery store carries an inventory of specialty eggs for retail sale, it must also carry an inventory of conventional eggs (shell eggs that are not considered specialty eggs).” Anyway, this law forces stores to sell eggs they and their customers find morally repulsive By the way, our mainstream media won’t mention the gruesome way our meat and eggs are produced, but they’ll show ads endlessly telling you how awesome meat is. “Try our fluffy egg-wich with a bacon milk shake!” Those ads don’t mention that the World Health Organization says that processed meats cause cancer, high blood pressure and heart disease. Eating torture-farmed meat doesn’t even make sense to most people who do it. If you show someone a bird trapped in an oil spill, most of us want to save it. We want to help it. I was about 14-15 years old when I heard the song for the first time ; it was part of a movie. I am now about to reach 60 ;yet I am still searching for it in the you tube .

Chad Lowe wasn't the right actor for this. They could've done so much better. John's songs saved this.

I was able to see John Denver in concert twice. He was such a down-to-earth artist. I miss him to this day.

The world is really in a Catch-22. On one hand, we need oil and the defense mechanism against tyrannical maniacs. On the other, excess runs deep in our world. The truth is, greed will always be pervasive on our planet. Until man's heart is softened by the love of Christ, we will continue to experience greed, avarice, violence, and excess.

I watched this as a child, when my daughter is old enough to understand I’ll show it to her.
