Hello, and welcome to the world of BorrisInABox.
This channel will contain mostly audio, including original productions and songs, some recorded radio clips, mostly from the central North Carolina area, with intrinsic or historical value, and other things I find interesting. Maybe a mashup every now and then.

the Organism Song
In late 1992, I was sitting in third grade science class. The topic that day was organisms.
Just the word organism caused this little musical motif to pop into my head, and it just never went away. Finally, 31 years later, I recorded a song based on it, with the help of @TheOnjLouis .
I played the following instruments:
Fender acoustic guitar
Jean Paul USA student clarinet
Suzuki melodian
Kentucky mandolin
Hammond-Suzuki XK-2
Spitfire Audio Originals Mrs. Mills piano (rendered by Onj)
Doorstop screwed to the lid of a pine box
Onj provided drums and upright bass from Project Sam Swing, and percussion.

Sammy the Christmas Snake Goes Metal… AI-generated
zhlédnutí 159Před 5 měsíci
I put the lyrics of Sammy the Christmas Snake (the original version is on this channel ) into sumo.ai, and over a few sessions, got this metal banger of a track out of it. All weird artifacts and AI stuff considered, now I really want to hear this performed by an actual band.
the Youngsters - Christmas in Jail - Digitally Extracted Stereo (DES)
zhlédnutí 149Před 2 lety
This was my first attempt at creating a digitally extracted stereo mix from a motto source, in this case, the Youngsters - Christmas in Jail, recorded in 1956. There is definitely room for improvement, but it’s OK for a first attempt, I guess. I used Demucs 3, Reaper, and some free VSTs to process the audio.
I don’t want a hippopotamus, a donkey, or rocking jingle bells for Christmas!
zhlédnutí 324Před 2 lety
There are three Christmas songs I absolutely can’t stand. Bobby Helms - jingle Bell rock, Lou Monte - Dominic the donkey, and Gayla Peevey - I want a hippopotamus for Christmas. Armed with Demucs 3, Reaper, and too much time on my hands, I wanted to know what would happen if I combined these three songs into one terrible stereo up-mix of badness. All three songs were originally in mono. This ...
Weezer Vs. Edie Brickell -- Good Buddy Holly times (a Windows 95 tribute)

Windows 95's multimedia companion CD ROM came with two music videos. These were Edie Brickell Good Times, and Weezer Buddy Holly. 25 years later, I was bored, and decided to make this happen.
Smash Mouth - Allstar, but the timing is messed up
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed 3 lety
Everyone has done something to this poor song. So, here’s my take on it, messing with the timing of the vocal track, compressing and expanding 0.5x/2x so it all still fits, but is a bit weird otherwise. Blame boredom and a lack of sleep.
the Towel Day Song (the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, happy birthday parody)

May 25th is the annual celebration of the life of Douglas Adams (1952-2001), also known as "Towel Day." www.towelday.org on towel Day 2016, I created this silly thing based on the anthem of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints division. According to the guide: "Share and Enjoy is, of course, the company motto of the hugely successful Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints division, ...
Burlington Industries building demolition, May 23, 2005 (audio only)
zhlédnutí 434Před 4 lety
at 10:00 AM EDT on May 23, 2005, the Burlington Industries building on West Friendly Ave. in Greensboro, NC was imploded to make way for a shopping center. My mother was a former Burlington Industries employee in the '80s, so I went with her to the site, and recorded this with my admittedly quite budget rig a Sony MD-R700 paired with an Audio Technica ATR-25. The entire recording setup cost me ...
Fun with the Social Security Administration

This is a silly thing I did in May of 2009, shortly after Barack Obama took office. My local SSA office had a recording about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on their phone system. Given my experiences with SSA, I think this is a more accurate portrayal of the services they provide. This is simple manipulation and concatenation of an existing recording... or is it?
Yamaha PSS-560 demonstration (audio only)

Here is a demonstration of my Yamaha PSS-560 from 1986. This was my first keyboard, gifted to me at the age of two, which would start my journey to learn about all things music and production. This includes a demo of all the preset sounds, as well as "digital synthesizer" mode, styles, custom drummer, and observations about the keyboard's general operation. I apologize for the lack of useful vi...
What if breaking into cars with mops was a sport?
zhlédnutí 258Před 5 lety
On February 1, 2018, KIRO posted an audio clip of John Curley giving commentary of surveillance footage of a vandal trying to break in to one of their employee's vehicles in the parking lot with a mop, as if it was a sports event. It was so good, I wanted to know how it would sound in that context, I.E. on an American AM sports station. So, I made that happen, sort of... I didn't have access to...
Groundhog Day Is Stupid
zhlédnutí 259Před 5 lety
Did he see a shadow? I don't know... What difference does it make? Groundhog Day is pointless. The national groundhog only has a 30 percent accuracy rate, and science isn't part of the equation. So, I wrote this to vent my frustration with the pointlessness that is Groundhog Day. Recorded in Logic Pro X. Real bass, real guitar, fake drums.
Moving in the Wrong Direction (Ensoniq TS-12 and Ensoniq D/P4
zhlédnutí 275Před 5 lety
In July 2014, I was about to move from North Carolina to New York City. Quite a big change for me. Before I packed up the studio, I wanted to make one last interesting production, and this is what I came up with. The Ensoniq TS-12 was my first pro keyboard, given to me as a Christmas present when I was 16. Though this keyboard came out in 1993, and Ensoniq already didn’t exist by the time I got...

"Sometimes, you wake up in the morning, only to realize that you have no friends... that your family has deserted you for no particular reason... that your life simply can't go on... Then, you try sleeping for a few more hours. You get back in bed, only to roll out again, and fall flat on the floor. When you do finally get more sleep, you realize that it was a pointless exercise, and everything...
bringing in the new year from four locations using Raspberry Pi powered streaming microphones

Awesome ! 🤩
This is cool 😎
Very nice!
very interesting origin story of the song. But for being invented by you as a third grader it's very good.
That was hard to follow. But it was funny.
That's just impressive! I like those accidental B double-flats in the bass actually.
Oh I remember this from a few years ago! I love it!!
Geniale, super
Happy jollyday and merry weeks #שבועות feast!
Hey man, would you mind if I used this track as an outro to some of my videos? Obviously I'll credit you in the description of each one.
Sure, feel free. I don’t make music anymore for various reasons, so anything I put up is available for whoever wants to use it.

This is really a nice way to get the shining
Interesting backstory, I first heard it when I lived in High Point N.C. back in 1990, ironically, I was born and raised in Indianapolis and listened to WNAP all the time as a teen but I don't remember ever hearing it then...

this is the most beautiful mashup

The single best version of this song I ever heard was done at an open mic night in a college dorm. It was a prank, because everyone answered these community questions that were on the front deck with all Star by smash mouth for fun, so this guy walks up on stage and starts playing a song that sounds like a classical piano piece. He then breaks into all star by smash mouth performed in classical piano style and I just lost it.
Jesus, how many Galileos do you want......? Who even is Galileo??????
This one is awesome!
This is brilliant.
E P I C !
Can you imagine if this was done at Live Aid? That would of been epic. I was 9 years old that July way back in 1985 and I got to see it on PPV. Best day/night of my life.
Yesssssss it sounds amazing never knew this could sound like a song you did a real good job!! :D
This is a pureee MASTERPIECE. I can't stop listening to it

Haha, the universe's timing is funny, and so is your manipulation of this song. I just heard the original version for the first time in who knows how long and then maybe a day or two later came across your Facebook post about this. Also, I can only imagine what it would be like to listen to this while high...
