With the Morning, Comes the Birds (MIDI Realization) | Kevin Robles
Program Notes:
With the Morning, Comes the Birds is a musical portrayal of a specific serene, contemplative moment at the break of dawn that the composer experienced. Written for a concert band, this piece evokes the tranquil beauty and the awakening of nature as the sun gently rises over the horizon. The composition begins with delicate and soft melodies that gradually emerge, much like the first rays of sunlight peeking through the darkness. The opening theme, played by the woodwinds, captures the peacefulness and stillness of early morning. As the music progresses, a sense of anticipation builds through subtle shifts in harmony and rhythm, reflecting the gradual awakening of the world around us. The brass section symbolizes the sun rising higher in the sky, casting its warm light across the landscape. Soli passages allow individual instruments to shine, representing moments of introspection and quiet contemplation amidst the growing energy of the ensemble. The music builds to a crescendo, reaching its peak as the full brightness of morning is realized. This composition is the story of two individuals sitting together and watching the morning arise together. As they watched the morning rise together, the birds began to sing, and the world began to shine.

Program Notes: Eta Carinae is a captivating and evocative musical journey inspired by one of the most intriguing celestial phenomena in our universe. Composed for Wind Ensemble,, this piece takes its name from Eta Carinae, a massive, luminous star located in the Carina constellation, approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth. The composition seeks to convey the awe-inspiring beauty and sheer m...
Fanfare of the Old Syndicate (MIDI Realization) | Kevin Robles

Program Notes: A syndicate can be defined as a group of individuals or organizations joined together to promote a common interest. In this context, the concert band, or wind ensemble, is the syndicate I had in mind when writing this work. My goal was to highlight the power and skill of the concert band through this piece, while also paying tribute to a special group of musicians. During my soph...

Program Notes: Havoc is a piece that’s bold, cinematic, and furious. The composition reflects explosions, quick changes, destruction, and adventure. I wanted to compose something that was a true representation of all of those qualities. At Troy University, the word Havoc means a lot to the students, especially the students in the School of Music. Havoc is a composition that was made with the co...
Malachite | Kevin Robles

Program Notes: Composed in January 2024, Malachite is a musical depiction of what I believe the crystal would sound like if it could sing. Malachite is a crystal that has an emerald green color to it. It is sharp, jagged, but sometimes can also be smoothed out to be quite beautiful. When light hits it, Malachite shimmers like no other stone. This work is meant to be a demonstration of that. Vib...
Echoes from the Forest | Kevin Robles

Program Notes: Echoes from the Forest is a solo for 5.0 Octave Marimba composed in December of 2023. This piece draws inspiration from a walk that I took in the woods one day. As I walked around, I heard sounds coming from different directions. After about 30 minutes, all of the sounds I heard melded into one and created some of the most incredible music I have ever heard. It was not necessaril...

Program Notes: Waltz of the Jester is the based off of a dream that I had. One night as I slept I dreamt of a Jester, but he wasn’t necessarily all that jolly and happy. The dream began with him performing in a king’s court. He was dancing around and making all the people in the court laugh. After he finished his performance, he then found himself walking to his quarters. The longer he walked t...

She devoured souls that could not reconcile the scales of truth with their hearts and those souls were then consigned to eternal death. She was often referred to as “The Devourer of the Dead”. Program Notes: This composition is the story of my freshman year of college. My director, Dr. Mark Walker, told me that he wanted me to compose a piece about everything I learned my freshman year. I originally thought he meant what I learned in terms of music theory and all of the classes I took. The more I worked on it though, the more I realized that this piece was slowly transforming into a ...

“Dark Skies” is a solo for 5.0 Octave Marimba composed in July of the year 2022. Like most of my marimba solos, this piece was written at first without notating anything down. After I had finally finished it, I sat down with notation software and started putting it into the computer. For about two days, I had no idea what to call it. Then I came up with a name, but it did not really fit the vib...

“The Crow’s Sorrow” is the first String Quartet written by composer Kevin A. Robles (b.2002) in July 2022. Crows have often been discussed as a sign or symbol of change and transformation from the physical world to the spiritual world, and in some history books, an omen of death. With this work the composer tries to portray the story of a friendship, a friendship that is transforming. The title...

Tonight's the night of the premiere! We are super excited to perform this for you! ❤
Amazing
Great work.
If you don’t mind me asking, what notation software do you use to compose?
Hi there! I use finale notation software. I also use the noteperformer sound library. These two together create a wonderful work environment for me and have made my composition journey significantly more efficient.
