  • “Dark Skies” is a solo for 5.0 Octave Marimba composed in July of the year 2022. Like most of my marimba solos, this piece was written at first without notating anything down. After I had finally finished it, I sat down with notation software and started putting it into the computer. For about two days, I had no idea what to call it. Then I came up with a name, but it did not really fit the vibe of the piece, nor was it a good representation of what the piece was trying to convey. I decided to take a break and think about it some more while I traveled back to Florida to see my family. As I was traveling back I noticed an enormous gray cloud that seemed to appear almost out of nowhere. The sky immediately got dark, and everything started seeming gloomy. Thus, I was inspired by that and decided to name the piece “Dark Skies” as a nod to a simple drive that brought inspiration and closure to my work.
