I believe it is imperative that you understand how to love yourself first before you can enact any change in the form of self discipline. Conversely, self discipline may lead to that self love that you had trouble finding before.

This is very negative view of artists. I don't think this is a universal law or a normal thing that happens with artists. Many legendary and highly skilled artist in history have been very normal, happy well adjusted people without mental issues, as well as many novice, or less well known artist who aren't depressed and very humble and happy people. I don't think this stereotype should proliferate, it's very negative and narcissistic. That being said, Generative AI is theft. There should be protections in place for artists and their works.

To quote an influential graphic designer of mine, Bernardo Henning: “The worst thing that happened to me as an artist is being a graphic designer”. As a graphic designer myself this profession has destroyed my creativity. I find this video so true, is everything that I need and want to be and I though being a graphic designer would take me closer to being an artist and express myself in a creative way, but it took me the farthest way possible, because working for someone as a graphic designer it’s always about the outcome. Now I hate sitting down and start sketching. It doesn’t feel right, it feels like work, like emptiness. This video gave me a little bit of light tho, so thanks for that. Got some notes, I’ll start applying them.

How do I organise my work around your life? I invest (time, energy, money) into my hobbies and intrests outside of my creative work. I give myself the space to reflect and evolve in those areas and it comes out in my work. How I make tough decisions? I reason with myself and feel my feelings (both positive and negative) to help me find balance and clarity around what helps and what doesnt't. It's not always easy and something I'm still trying to navigate but I see its benefits long term

As someone whos started reading less and less self improvement books I completely agree. Theres always more, there's always another goal. And life isn't linear like we think it is. Neither is success.

The tortured artist narrative is kind of a cliche, and it started during the time when the link between creativity, and some form of mental issues was lesser known in psychology. People with delusions, or delusional disorder see the world differently, and so as those with other types of mental issues. Many of them incorporate their delusions in their work, like Van Gogh did in his paintings, or singers who sing their hearts out of misery. While mental issue is now considered a common illness with a variety of treatment options available to everyone, many people don't respond well to treatment, or refuse to take meds, and so the delusions convinces them to invest much of their time, or energy in their art, and while some have succeeded, as in many wasted artists, or creative people who made it for their authenticity but lost their lives to drugs, many people unfortunately succumbed to their mental illnesses and are wasted in the process before they could make it anywhere. But it's not true that creative people are almost never happy. Many of them choose solitude, as some feel they're more creative without intrusions from anyone, or anything, that some of them could isolate for a long time, and understandably, many people who aren't in the same level often see it as unusual, so it's not quite surprising that many people mistake it for madness. Starting from the previous century, artists have become more of a product, instead of a novelty, and so many of them aren't as authentic as a real artist in a traditional sense. For instance, in music, many pop stars are like a well-crafted product for mass consumption to drive sales, but likely, they didn't write the lyrics, or compose the musical score. Some artists' unusual processes, like solitude, can be quite too deep to fathom for many that it's often easier for others to focus on trivial things, by judging the surface as it's likely the only part they could grasp. And by saying that, I don't in any way mean the author of this content, but generally speaking, many people are just ignorant.
